The railroad of Wisconsin & Northern Railroad Company, herein called the Wisconsin & Northern, is a single-track, standard-gauge, steam railroad, located in the northeastern part of Wisconsin. The owned mileage extends in a southerly direction from Wisconsin & Northern Junction, near Crandon, to Shawano, with a branch extending from Western Junction to Western Siding. The Wisconsin & Northern wholly owns and uses 99.068 miles of tracks, of which 86.141 miles is main track and 12.927 miles is yard tracks and sidings.


CORPORATE HISTORY

The Wisconsin & Northern was incorporated on May 23, 1906, under the general laws of Wisconsin. It was authorized by its charter to construct, maintain, and operate a railroad from the [?] miles. By charter amendments it was authorized to extend its main line to the north boundary line of Wisconsin, making a total mileage in Wisconsin of about 162 miles, thence northerly into Michigan about 40 miles to the city of Mass. It was also authorized to build a branch line to Antigo, Wis., a distance of about 14 miles. The Wisconsin & Northern was incorporated by individuals who controlled the Green Bay, Oshkosh, Madison and Southwestern Railroad Company for the purpose of taking over and completing the construction of certain property owned by that company. The principal office is at Oshkosh, Wis.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

On May 28, 1906, the Wisconsin & Northern purchased from the Green Bay, Oshkosh, Madison and Southwestern all of its physical property, consisting of surveys, rights of way, grading, and bridging between Shawano and Gresham in Shawano County, Wis., about 11 miles. The construction of this property was completed by the Wisconsin & Northern. The remainder of the property owned by the carrier on date of valuation was acquired by construction. The property was completed and opened for operation in sections, as follows:

The Wisconsin & Northern had under construction on date of valuation an extension to its branch line, Shawano to Black Creek, about 23.87 miles, which was not placed in operation until after date of valuation.

CORPORATE HISTORY

This company was incorporated on December 21, 1903, under the general laws of Wisconsin for the purpose of constructing, maintaining, and operating a railroad between Green Bay and Madison, all in Wisconsin, a distance of about 150 miles. By an amendment to the articles of incorporation, filed June 13, 1905, it was authorized to construct a branch line between Menasha and North Crandon, Wis., about 125 miles.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

On January 21, 1904, the Green Bay, Oshkosh, Madison and Southwestern Railroad Company entered into a construction contract with the Oshkosh Construction Company, which was organized and controlled by the stockholders and officers of the Green Bay, Oshkosh, Madison and Southwestern, under the terms of which contract the construction company agreed to construct the proposed line of railway.
