Series Box Manual of Style
editThe series box is a useful, efficient, and convenient tool designed for guiding the user through the major points of an individual's Presidency, prior life, and post-presidency. These are all contained in a sidebar box.

The series box style is simple, but indicative of the height of the office. The box is surrounded by a double border, 4px, color #d69d36. The box is topped by a blue field, color #002466, the first (top left) includes the portrait, size 70px, the right, the text, in white, reading "This article is part of a series about [Mr. President].
The bottom of the box features the President's signature, and below that, the Seal of the President of the United States, size 40px. The inclusion of seals for lower offices, i.e. Governor, Senator, U.S. House, etc. or awards, i.e. Nobel Prize, Medal of Honor, etc. are unnecessary. The boxes reflect the highest, and most important office held, that of President. While lower offices may not be of no importance, the amount of area in the box does not provide for the efficient inclusion of these, without distracting from that of President. In the case of Dwight D. Eisenhower, the inclusion of the 5-star O-11 insignia is acceptable, and prudent, because the rank of General of the Army is a lifetime rank, suspended due toi his office (1953-1961), but remaining upon his exit until death in 1969.
Details for terms should include their election (unless ascended to office, then pertinent link if article exists), their inauguration, and a link to article, or biography article section covering their Presidency. Each term should begin with such information. Followed by this should include major points of their terms, landmark accomplishments, events, treaties, laws, etc. Don't get into the fine details, that's what the article and bottom of page templates are for.
In cases of one-term presidents, no differentiation between terms is necessary. For those assassinated, a break after the contents of presidency is due. It should read 'Assassination and Legacy', and include below links to the assassination with that link being written as the date, like so: (April 14,1865). It should include a link to the state funeral, if available, and any pertinents.
Shown also on the right is a template for President-Elect of the United States. On November 6, 2016, there will be an election for the next (presumably 45th) President. When this person is elected, this style should be used to signify their status of President-Elect, but not yet sitting president.

Style (VPOTUS)

For the Vice Presidential series box, we follow the same format as the presidential, however various style changes differentiate it from POTUS. The box is surrounded by a double border, silver in color, #8C959A. The box is topped by a white (#FFF) field, on the left is a portrait, 70px, and the right reads "This article is part of a series about [Mr. Vice President]", in white text. The outline color of the top field is not standardized as with Presidents; it is colored based on the VP's party, as it is significant to tie breaking control in the Senate. Democrats are #34AAE0 (color of Democratic Party official logo); Republicans are #980202, a dark red used in various GOP materials;Whigs are in buff #F0DC82; Federalists are in black #000000; Democratic-Republicans are #008000, per Wikipedia consistent color.
Details in top section should include Presidential tickets, stylized i.e. "Nixon-Agnew Campaigns (break) (1968 * 1972). They may also include relevant early life, career, their own presidential campaigns, etc.
The next section should be separated by a break, and read "Vice President of the United States", and linked either to an article covering their tenure or to the corresponding section in their biography article. Any significant events may be grouped under the VP heading/link. Following another break, may include other significant offices, i.e. Governor, Senator, etc. After their second highest/important office, the bottom may contain electoral history, post-office achievements, awards, etc.
Like the Presidential box, the VP box should include the signature, if available, and below it, the VP seal. Like the POTUS box, only the VP seal should be included, anything else is superfluous for these purposes, and takes excess space.
Important Features
editWhen placing a series box, ensure that it does not conflict with the article's body, and rearrange any photos necessary to make the box fit cleanly, and effectively.
Not every President warrants a series box. Harrison, Taylor, Garfield are good examples. Use good judgement as to whether a President warrants a series box, and make sure to include the most important information the reader will look for. For Vice Presidents, very few warrant a series box, Gore and Biden are recent examples which make sense, Cheney may as well. Ensure that the Vice Presidential series box has the party's proper color in the top field. The series box should be clean, well-organized, and look as uniform as possible.
