edit- 13 January 1979 – The Australian-born soprano, Marjorie Lawrence died in Hot Springs, Arkansas at the age of 71. She was particularly known for roles in Wagner's operas until her stage career was cut short by polio in 1941.
- 29 January 1933 – The American poet Sara Teasdale committed suicide. Her post-apocalyptic poem There Will Come Soft Rains inspired a famous short story by Ray Bradbury.

- 13 February 1881 – The first issue of the feminist newspaper La Citoyenne was published by Hubertine Auclert.
- 27 February 1897 – The American contralto, Marian Anderson was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

- 21 May 1799 – The British palaeontologist and fossil collector Mary Anning was born in Lyme Regis

- 29 June 1746 – Catherine of Ricci (b. 1522) was canonized a saint of the Catholic Church.

- 10 July 1724 – Eva Ekeblad, Swedish agronomist and salonist and the first female member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, was born to Count Magnus Julius De la Gardie and Hedvig Catharina Lilje.
- 30 July 1920 – The American painter, Emma Lampert Cooper, died of tuberculosis in Pittsford, New York.

edit- 24 August 1817 – Soprano Nancy Storace, who created the role of Susanna in Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro died in London at the age of 50.
- 16 August 1679 – Novelist, dramatist, and philosopher Catharine Trotter Cockburn was born in London.

- 18 September 1587 – Francesca Caccini, whose La liberazione di Ruggiero has been widely considered the first opera by a woman composer, was born in Florence.

edit- 20 October 1740 – Maria Theresia of Austria inherited the Habsburg hereditary dominions (Austria, Bohemia, Hungary and present-day Belgium). Her succession to the Holy Roman Empire was contested widely because she was a woman.
- 27 October 1922 – Rita Fornia, the soprano who created the role of the Abbess in Puccini's Suor Angelica, died in Paris at the age of 44.
