Wikipedia:WikiProject Women's History/Taskforces/World War I

Scope of this taskforce

edit

This taskforce, part of WikiProject Women's History, aims to improve the availability and quality of articles on Wikipedia about women involved in World War I, and the effects of World War I on women. The following are explicitly included as within scope:

  • women in active military service
  • women in nursing, communications, munitions production, and other non-military work
  • women's voluntary work on the home front (eg. fundraising, victory gardens)
  • women's political activity related to the war (including pacifism)

Women of all nations are explicitly included in this taskforce's scope.

Overall goals/tasks to be done

edit
  • Assess the quality of existing articles about women in WW1, as part of WikiProject Women's History
  • Improve the quality of articles about women during WW1
  • Ensure that women's history is included in general articles about WW1, where appropriate
  • Create new articles about notable women in WW1, if they do not already exist

Collaboration with other WikiProjects

edit

We should look into collaborating with related wikiprojects/taskforces on this subject.

Work to be done

Overview articles by country

edit

Goals:

  • For countries which have articles already existing about "Country during World War I", add a section on the subject of women's involvement (if it does not already exist) or ensure that the section is of decent quality (if it does).
  • If there is sufficient information available, spin off a separate article on the subject of "Country's women during World War I" (see Australia for example). Each article should include an overview section describing women's involvement, details of women's organisations involved in the war, and information about individual notable women from that country and their service.
  • NOTE: due to potential difficulty in adding these sections to existing articles, it may be advisable to first improve articles about organisations, notable women, etc so that you have good stuff to link to.

Countries:

See Category:World War I by country for starting points.

Organizations

edit

Goal:

  • For each existing article, bring its quality up to at least "start" level (i.e. not a stub)
  • For organisations which do not yet have articles, create one (non-stub)
  • If organisation is an offshoot of a non-women's one, ensure that the article for the non-women's one contains links to the women's one (eg. RAF links to WRAF).

List of organizations:

Biographies

edit

Goals:

  • Create categories for women by country, add women's articles to them (parent categories should include Category:Women in World War I and a country-specific WW1 category if it exists)
  • Bring article level for each woman up to at least "start" (not a stub).
  • create articles for notable women who don't yet have them.
  • ensure that women in military orgs have the "military person" infobox
