This course looks at the concept of celebrity in literature and film. Students will be learning about different frameworks for understanding celebrity (parasocial interaction, political celebrity, etc.). They will also be reading books about celebrity, so they could update articles related to the book itself, the author, or the historical context (for example, yakuza movies in relation to Mishima's Star, Tonya Harding in I, Tonya, The Chappaquiddick Incident in Black Water, and so on).
