This course is an introduction to the rapidly evolving field of Toxicology, with an emphasis on Ecotoxicology, and is designed to provide you with a working knowledge of the principles, general concepts and techniques in this interdisciplinary field.
One focus of this course is learning how quickly new information is added or changes. For example, chemicals once thought to be safe may no longer be, newer substances are emerging into general use, and existing chemicals are increasingly being tested as new technology and methods for their detection are developed.
Learning how to update articles in Wikipedia to reflect the rapid addition of knowledge and policy that occurs in this field in an excellent way make what we cover in class relevant on a broad scale. The critical thinking, referencing and writing skills you develop will also be an important supplement to the literature searching, experimental design and original research projects you will conduct in this course.
