This course discusses the basics of Climate Change Science. Topics include physical climate and climatology, energy balance models, the climate of the geological and recent past (paleoclimate), greenhouse gases, the carbon cycle, and aerosols. I will introduce the methods of assessing climate and climatic change, the scientific theories, impacts and projections of near-future climatic change. Based upon student involvement and feedback, foci may include observations, modeling, the carbon cycle, paleoclimate, or other climate change specific topics. An introduction will also be given as to why the conclusions from climate change science have not yet led to policy changes, and what it would take to avoid the worst consequences from continued, unabated global warming.
