Create an account and join this course page, using the enrollment link your instructor sent you. (Because of Wikipedia's technical restraints, you may receive a message that you cannot create an account. To resolve this, please try again off campus or the next day.) For your Wikipedia user name, chose one that is anonyous and gender neutral. There is not a lot of trolling on Wikipedia, but you have to be aware of the danger anytime you use the internet. After you create material on Wikipedia you can claim credit by telling those you want what your user name is

Exercise
Look at two Wikipedia articles. This one on celiac disease (coeliac is the British spelling) describes the condition that is one of the main reasons people avoid gluten in their diet. You would NOT work on an article like this. The is article is rated FA class -- the highest on Wikipedia's quality scale. You can see that described on the article's talk page. It was also a featured article indicated by the gold star in the upper right corner of the main page. You would not work on because it has been vetted and there is likely not much to add unless something updates the information. Still take a look to see why it is considered so good then look at this article. This describes a potential treatment to avoid celiac disease. This article is called stub class on the quality scale. It is a place holder awating much more infomration. The article you ultimately chose work on for this assignment will likey be a stub or a "start class" article giving more opportunites to improve it

In addition, copy and paste any paragraph from a current Wikipedia article in the mainspace into yout sandbox. Make at least two edits in the text and add a citation. These two not have to be correct. I want you to demonstrate to me and yourself that you are comfortable with the editing process. Leave the before and after paragraphs in your sandbox. Do NOT make any changes in the mainspace. Explain you have done it with the signature ~~~~

Find the article you want to work on for the remainder of the class. It should be relevant to any of the topics mentioned in the syllabus. Ideally it should be a stub or start class article. You can use a higher rated article if you think you can make a substantial contribution. Before you make a choice, we will go over in class methods for finding articles. For you, an imprtant criterion is finding a subject that interests you enough so you want to spend some time with it
