Did you get specific instructions about copyright and plagiarism before beginning your assignment? How does Wikipedia's treatment of copyright and plagiarism issues match up with what you expected?

...Yes. If you upload Youtube videos you had to consider copyright.

Did you follow what happened to your article and its talk page after you made your edits? Do you plan to keep an eye on how it evolves after your course ends?

...Yes.

Did you feel that your work on Wikipedia mattered? Did it matter more or less than a regular term paper or essay?

Which class were you in?

... I was in SWGS 322 at Rice University.

What did you have the most trouble with?

... I had the most trouble transitioning from an essay-like tone (in which you argue a point) to a neutral, encyclopedic one.

Did you take the "Training for Students" before you started your assignment? If so, how well did it prepare you for editing?

... Yes.

Is there anything you really wish you'd been told right when you were starting?

... No.

What kind of feedback did you get from classmates and other Wikipedia editors? Did you review the work of other students?

... I find that classmates are always more patient and friendly in their comments than Wikipedia editors that aren't in a class, but other editors can provide more experienced perspectives, so it's a trade off. I reviewed the projects of two of my peers in class and two more online, using their talk pages.

Did you get specific instructions about copyright and plagiarism before beginning your assignment? How does Wikipedia's treatment of copyright and plagiarism issues match up with what you expected?

... No, but at my university we have a very strict plagiarism policy and I had worked with Creative Commons licenses before, so I was pretty familiar with what was and wasn't okay, although the Wikimedia photo policy was a little more strict than I expected.

Did you follow what happened to your article and its talk page after you made your edits? Do you plan to keep an eye on how it evolves after your course ends?

... Yes I have worked on two other articles for two previous courses and I keep up with both of them. I want to keep up with this one too, especially since it's a brand new article I created.

Did you feel that your work on Wikipedia mattered? Did it matter more or less than a regular term paper or essay?

... Yes. It certainly feels like it matters in a different way from an essay because other people have access to it. I wouldn't say essays are less important or educational than Wikipedia articles, but for the class we are in, being able to have an impact on others is important and Wikipedia gives you that.

Do you plan to keep editing Wikipedia on your own? If so, what will you work on? (If you'd be interested in training to become a Wikipedia Ambassador to help other students get started on Wikipedia, say so here and we'll follow up with you.)

... Yes I hope so. I will probably work less on articles that meet certain course requirements and more on things that interest me/that I have prior knowledge about, but I would like to continue writing. I am open to helping others get started too.

Are there any editors you'd like to thank for their help?

... Mike Christie helped me a lot! Thanks Mike!

Any other feedback you'd like to share?

... No.

Which class were you in?

... Interaction Experience and Engagement in the University of Hull Scarborough Campus

What did you have the most trouble with?

... N/A

Did you take the "Training for Students" before you started your assignment? If so, how well did it prepare you for editing?

... Yes. It helped me to learn and understand the basics of Wikipedia which helped with future contributions on my assignment.

Is there anything you really wish you'd been told right when you were starting?

... Not really. If I needed to find something out I could find an answer through either a search engine, Wikipedia page or a Wikipedia user.

What kind of feedback did you get from classmates and other Wikipedia editors? Did you review the work of other students?

... My group asked for feedback continuously, as a result we received much feedback from Wikipedia editors and users. This arguably proved the most useful resource to our group when it came to both creating our article, adding content and ultimately getting it published.

Did you get specific instructions about copyright and plagiarism before beginning your assignment? How does Wikipedia's treatment of copyright and plagiarism issues match up with what you expected?

... We were briefed by university lecturers, however despite the Wikipedia help pages available I feel this was something I learnt about as a result of trial and error (feedback especially).

Did you follow what happened to your article and its talk page after you made your edits? Do you plan to keep an eye on how it evolves after your course ends?

... Yes. The article is still being watched and if I have time will continue to monitor progress.

Did you feel that your work on Wikipedia mattered? Did it matter more or less than a regular term paper or essay?

... I hope so. It resulted in the publication of an article and allowed to me appreciate what contributing, as apposed to simply reading, was all about.

Do you plan to keep editing Wikipedia on your own? If so, what will you work on? (If you'd be interested in training to become a Wikipedia Ambassador to help other students get started on Wikipedia, say so here and we'll follow up with you.)

... Yes.

Are there any editors you'd like to thank for their help?

Which class were you in?

...Johns Hopkins University/Molecular Biology Section 81 (2013 Q1)

What did you have the most trouble with?

...The main issue I had was finding images on Immunolabeling that were free of copyrights.

Did you take the "Training for Students" before you started your assignment? If so, how well did it prepare you for editing?

...Yes, I did. The videos helped immensely since I tend to be more of a visual learner.

Is there anything you really wish you'd been told right when you were starting?

...No, not particularly.

What kind of feedback did you get from classmates and other Wikipedia editors? Did you review the work of other students?

...I mainly got feedback from classmates during the editing process. Yes, we were required to review 2 articles. Currently, I have peer-reviewed one article for two of my classmates; however, the other article will be edited later on this semester.

Did you get specific instructions about copyright and plagiarism before beginning your assignment? How does Wikipedia's treatment of copyright and plagiarism issues match up with what you expected?

...Yes, copyright and plagiarism were listed explicitly in training videos and handouts. I expected Wikipedia to enforce those policies.

Did you follow what happened to your article and its talk page after you made your edits? Do you plan to keep an eye on how it evolves after your course ends?

...Yes, I plan to follow my article and its talk page in order to make the proper edits. I think it would be beneficial to look after my article since it will be fascinating to see others' input.

Did you feel that your work on Wikipedia mattered? Did it matter more or less than a regular term paper or essay?

...Yes, this project definitely mattered. At the end of the day, I was able to contribute to a topic within molecular biology to possibly help others interested in the article.

Do you plan to keep editing Wikipedia on your own? If so, what will you work on? (If you'd be interested in training to become a Wikipedia Ambassador to help other students get started on Wikipedia, say so here and we'll follow up with you.)

...I may continue to work on my article and may edit others after the course is over. No, I would not like to be a Wikipedia Ambassador. Thank you, though.

Are there any editors you'd like to thank for their help?

...I am grateful to my classmates that were selected to edit our article, our Ambassadors, and our professor, Dr. Ogg, for the guidance throughout this project. I greatly appreciated the helpful advice!

Any other feedback you'd like to share?

...This truly was a wonderful learning experience, even though it was time-consuming at times. I suppose the more time invested into this project, the more one gets out of it. Although I was a little hesitate at the beginning of the semester due to the Wikipedia "language", but it continually got easier as the project went on. It was an excellent method for learning Molecular Biology in a different way.

... WCU MPA

What did you have the most trouble with?

... getting the resources to link properly - sometimes there was an issue for those sites using portals

Did you take the "Training for Students" before you started your assignment? If so, how well did it prepare you for editing?

... I completed the training and found it very useful. I also referred to certain parts frequently during my editing.

Is there anything you really wish you'd been told right when you were starting?

... No, the instructors were very upfront regarding the complexities of the coding and were most helpful along the way.

What kind of feedback did you get from classmates and other Wikipedia editors? Did you review the work of other students?

... At this point, I have not received any feedback - but it is always welcomed. I have not visited any of the other classmate sites as not all have been made live.

Did you get specific instructions about copyright and plagiarism before beginning your assignment? How does Wikipedia's treatment of copyright and plagiarism issues match up with what you expected?

... Yes, my instructor was very forth coming regarding plagiarism and issues surrounding the use of others' materials. The expectation was met.

Did you follow what happened to your article and its talk page after you made your edits? Do you plan to keep an eye on how it evolves after your course ends?

... I haven't made my edits live, yet; however, I do plan on following the page and reviewing other pages as I did learn a great deal with this assignment.

Did you feel that your work on Wikipedia mattered? Did it matter more or less than a regular term paper or essay?

... I do feel like this work mattered and was fairly proud of the work I did to expand the topic page. I think it mattered because it was a topic I chose, that I was interested in researching and gained knowledge regarding coding and formatting that can be helpful in the future, if I choose to edit other pages or post new pages.

Do you plan to keep editing Wikipedia on your own? If so, what will you work on? (If you'd be interested in training to become a Wikipedia Ambassador to help other students get started on Wikipedia, say so here and we'll follow up with you.)

... At this point, there are no particular items that I am certain I would work on, but I cannot rule out doing so in the future. I actually enjoyed this project.

Are there any editors you'd like to thank for their help?

... Since no one has reviewed my information aside from my instructor, I can't thank specific individuals, but do appreciate my instructor and the Wikipedia Ambassador Kasey.

Any other feedback you'd like to share?

... I think this is a terrific use of instructional time and feel that I definiately learned much with this project. Deputygirl (talk) 22:15, 10 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Which class were you in?

Global Youth Studies - Sociology Class at Drake University ...

What did you have the most trouble with?

Putting sources in - can be very confusing. Also still confused about the Sandbox and its function. Am afraid that I will end up deleting all my work, but I don't want to post the changes to the page yet. ...

Did you take the "Training for Students" before you started your assignment? If so, how well did it prepare you for editing?

I took it. The problem was that all of it seemed really self-explanatory when it was explained, but then when I got into the editing stage, I couldn't remember. It might be helpful to clip the videos into smaller sections, so I can find exactly what I am looking for (i.e. putting in sources, etc.) Could also just put time stamps beside it to let me know what time to go to when I want to find certain information. ...

Is there anything you really wish you'd been told right when you were starting?

No the video was really helpful as an orientation. ...

What kind of feedback did you get from classmates and other Wikipedia editors? Did you review the work of other students?

Got lots of feedback from other users. Most of the feedback from other users was just repeating Wikipedia norms (no original research, be neutral, etc.). I haven't had a chance to review all other students work yet. ...

Did you get specific instructions about copyright and plagiarism before beginning your assignment? How does Wikipedia's treatment of copyright and plagiarism issues match up with what you expected?

Being in a college environment means that we are always talking about plagiarism. I think Wikipedia was pretty explicit in its explanation and warnings against plagiarism and copyright. It matched up with what I expected. ...

Did you follow what happened to your article and its talk page after you made your edits? Do you plan to keep an eye on how it evolves after your course ends?

Haven't made my edits yet, but I will probably follow up. It's really cool to see stuff you have written be on the internet for everyone to see! I plan to follow up. ...

Did you feel that your work on Wikipedia mattered? Did it matter more or less than a regular term paper or essay?

I felt that it mattered because we are allowing others to become more educated about topics that matter to us. But on the whole, I personally like essays and terms papers better because they allow me to think critically about information rather than just listing facts. Obviously, they are two very different mediums, so there are pros and cons for both. ...

Do you plan to keep editing Wikipedia on your own? If so, what will you work on? (If you'd be interested in training to become a Wikipedia Ambassador to help other students get started on Wikipedia, say so here and we'll follow up with you.)

Probably not at this point. If I did decide to continue, I would probably focus my attention on social issues, and non-profits, as I am not sure how much is on Wikipedia about those things. ...

Are there any editors you'd like to thank for their help?

Not right now. ...

... English 213, Digital Literacies

What did you have the most trouble with?

... Figuring out how to use Wikipedia.

Did you take the "Training for Students" before you started your assignment? If so, how well did it prepare you for editing?

... I did. It gave me somewhat of an idea of how Wikipedia would work but when I actually started editing it felt like I was learning a new language.

Is there anything you really wish you'd been told right when you were starting?

... Probably just that it wasn't as easy as it may seem.

What kind of feedback did you get from classmates and other Wikipedia editors? Did you review the work of other students?

... I have not received any feedback, but the section I added to a Wiki page was completely omitted due to sourcing issues.

Did you get specific instructions about copyright and plagiarism before beginning your assignment? How does Wikipedia's treatment of copyright and plagiarism issues match up with what you expected?

... I did. It is pretty clear and concise.

Did you follow what happened to your article and its talk page after you made your edits? Do you plan to keep an eye on how it evolves after your course ends?

... Probably not. I don't care to work with Wikipedia much ever again of my own interest.

Did you feel that your work on Wikipedia mattered? Did it matter more or less than a regular term paper or essay?

... I believe it mattered so I was aggravated that it was deleted instead of someone making a note that sources needed to be fixed. I wouldn't say it mattered more or less because this assignment was completely different from a paper.

Do you plan to keep editing Wikipedia on your own? If so, what will you work on? (If you'd be interested in training to become a Wikipedia Ambassador to help other students get started on Wikipedia, say so here and we'll follow up with you.)

... I don't plan on it but it could possibly happen depending on what I find on Wiki and if it's interesting enough to make me want to add to it.

Are there any editors you'd like to thank for their help?

... Thank you to Pat, our online ambassador for helping with issues we had in class!

Any other feedback you'd like to share?

... Wikipedia would be more fun to add to if things were a little easier to understand and work with.

Which class were you in?

Copyright, Commerce and Culture at NYU

What did you have the most trouble with?

Uploading pictures to Wikimedia Commons (without having them taken down)

Did you take the "Training for Students" before you started your assignment? If so, how well did it prepare you for editing?

No, but I did attend training sessions. They were fun, but I was already familiar with the basics of Wikipedia editing and its format, having been an anonymous contributor since I was a child.

Is there anything you really wish you'd been told right when you were starting?

How to upload licenses to a picture on Wikimedia Commons.

What kind of feedback did you get from classmates and other Wikipedia editors? Did you review the work of other students?

I did not get feedback, although I did help some students out with formatting.

Did you get specific instructions about copyright and plagiarism before beginning your assignment? How does Wikipedia's treatment of copyright and plagiarism issues match up with what you expected?

I did not, but the treatment seemed fair. The guidelines for non-free content, however, were lackluster and not easy to apply, even though my content clearly fit the bounds.

Did you follow what happened to your article and its talk page after you made your edits? Do you plan to keep an eye on how it evolves after your course ends?

Yes, I kept an eye on it, and plan to keep doing so.

Did you feel that your work on Wikipedia mattered? Did it matter more or less than a regular term paper or essay?

Yes, my work mattered more than a regular paper because I could see the use of my contributions.

Do you plan to keep editing Wikipedia on your own? If so, what will you work on? (If you'd be interested in training to become a Wikipedia Ambassador to help other students get started on Wikipedia, say so here and we'll follow up with you.)

I will edit Wikipedia as I have been doing. I always fix style errors, help create templates for musicians.

Are there any editors you'd like to thank for their help?

Pharos was particularly helpful in his tutorials!

Any other feedback you'd like to share?

The whole project was delightful!

Which class were you in?

Theatre History 1642-present

What did you have the most trouble with?

From a research perspective, avoiding an impulse to draw conclusions or do "original research." Technically, the hardest parts were figuring out the best way to do citations and uploading proper public domain imagery.

Did you take the "Training for Students" before you started your assignment? If so, how well did it prepare you for editing?

I did take it. It provided the basics but I had to do a lot of learning on the go. The help link on the left was invaluable.

Is there anything you really wish you'd been told right when you were starting?

The only thing I learned after the fact that I didn't know about was at the end, it's great to make sure your page isn't an orphan (by creating links to it on other relevant pages) and adding categories.

What kind of feedback did you get from classmates and other Wikipedia editors? Did you review the work of other students?

That's still in process.

Did you get specific instructions about copyright and plagiarism before beginning your assignment? How does Wikipedia's treatment of copyright and plagiarism issues match up with what you expected?

I don't remember the specific instructions. It is pretty much inline with what I would expect, but the scrutiny on copyright of images is pretty intense.

Did you follow what happened to your article and its talk page after you made your edits? Do you plan to keep an eye on how it evolves after your course ends?

I check it often. Although I "completed" the assignment I have a lot more research I want to still add!

Did you feel that your work on Wikipedia mattered? Did it matter more or less than a regular term paper or essay?

Yes! I love that it adds to public knowledge! It's the first thing that comes up when you google my subject!

Do you plan to keep editing Wikipedia on your own? If so, what will you work on? (If you'd be interested in training to become a Wikipedia Ambassador to help other students get started on Wikipedia, say so here and we'll follow up with you.)

Yeah, now that I get the hang of it I probably will. Not to the same extent but I would be happy to help others.

Are there any editors you'd like to thank for their help?

Yunshui! You're the best!

Any other feedback you'd like to share?

It was fun!

What did you have the most trouble with?

Citations

Did you take the "Training for Students" before you started your assignment? If so, how well did it prepare you for editing?

Yes; very well

Is there anything you really wish you'd been told right when you were starting?

No, it was a pretty smooth process.

What kind of feedback did you get from classmates and other Wikipedia editors? Did you review the work of other students?

No I did not review other students' edits and I got no feedback from others. I didn't think it was part of the assignment and it really never crossed my mind.

Did you get specific instructions about copyright and plagiarism before beginning your assignment? How does Wikipedia's treatment of copyright and plagiarism issues match up with what you expected?

Yes. Wikipedia's treatment seems pretty standard.

Did you follow what happened to your article and its talk page after you made your edits? Do you plan to keep an eye on how it evolves after your course ends?

I checked back a few times the next couple weeks, but none of my edits were reversed or revised. So I don't think I'll keep an eye on it.

Did you feel that your work on Wikipedia mattered? Did it matter more or less than a regular term paper or essay?

Not as much as papers in some classes, where much more research and individual synthesis is required, but I felt it mattered as much as any assignment in this class besides the three big "track" assignments.

Do you plan to keep editing Wikipedia on your own? If so, what will you work on? (If you'd be interested in training to become a Wikipedia Ambassador to help other students get started on Wikipedia, say so here and we'll follow up with you.)

I probably won't unless I see some glaring spelling or grammatical errors. I'm not a huge fan of any writing where I'm explicitly forbidden from creating any new information.

Are there any editors you'd like to thank for their help?

Ed was nice.

Any other feedback you'd like to share?

Which class were you in?

I was an eleven-grade student at Abaarso School of Science in Somali land.

What did you have the most trouble with?

I have the most trouble with how talk and discuss with other users in Wikipedia.

Did you take the "Training for Students" before you started your assignment? If so, how well did it prepare you for editing?

I did some practice, and it helped me a lot, and I have fun moments and a fantastic experience with this project. Again, It was really a nice experience.

Is there anything you really wish you'd been told right when you were starting?

Not that much, but I wish I had been told how to find good article to edit.

What kind of feedback did you get from classmates and other Wikipedia editors? Did you review the work of other students?

They helped me and i appreciated the work that they enabled me to do. They positively told me how to avoid a plagiarizing other people's work and bias news. I truly did not review any other work, but I would like to do.

Did you get specific instructions about copyright and plagiarism before beginning your assignment? How does Wikipedia's treatment of copyright and plagiarism issues match up with what you expected?

Yes, I found some handouts and guided-papers that helped to avoid errors and find credible sources. It went well, and it became easier for me.

Did you follow what happened to your article and its talk page after you made your edits? Do you plan to keep an eye on how it evolves after your course ends?

I did not follow what happened to my for article for some reasons, but I will Insha-Allah. Yes I plan because this gives an opportunity to review and improve my work.

Did you feel that your work on Wikipedia mattered? Did it matter more or less than a regular term paper or essay?

Yes, I felt that way because before I used to read other people's work, but today people are reading my own work, and I am grateful about this. Moreover, I am helping people to find new things and useful resources.

Do you plan to keep editing Wikipedia on your own? If so, what will you work on? (If you'd be interested in training to become a Wikipedia Ambassador to help other students get started on Wikipedia, say so here and we'll follow up with you.)

I strongly like to involve editing Wikipedia on my own, and if so i will work on articles about the Horn of Africa's international institutions and development because there many foreign issues and conflicts going on in the horn, and many people are not aware of these impediments. I am interested to have a training to become a Wikipedia Ambassador to help other students get started on Wikipedia because there are many other people that like to involve this project, Wikipedia, as well and do not get help.

... Digital Literacies at Ball State University

What did you have the most trouble with?

... Finding appropriate and relevant sources.

Did you take the "Training for Students" before you started your assignment? If so, how well did it prepare you for editing?

... I did. I think it prepared me well enough though I was still a bit confused when I first opened up the editing screen.

Is there anything you really wish you'd been told right when you were starting?

... A list of what sites are blocked from being referenced on Wikipedia before hand would have been nice.

What kind of feedback did you get from classmates and other Wikipedia editors? Did you review the work of other students?

... I have not reviewed my classmates work. Our class ambassador was very encouraging but straightforward that our topic would be challenging.

Did you get specific instructions about copyright and plagiarism before beginning your assignment? How does Wikipedia's treatment of copyright and plagiarism issues match up with what you expected?

... We were told before starting that everything we said needed to be cited.

Did you follow what happened to your article and its talk page after you made your edits? Do you plan to keep an eye on how it evolves after your course ends?

... We have just finished working on this about two weeks ago, but it has been updated once already. The talk-page was uneventful until after we had finished updating the article. The addition though small gave a more diverse sense to the article. I will probably not keep an eye on it because of my other time consumption.

Did you feel that your work on Wikipedia mattered? Did it matter more or less than a regular term paper or essay?

... I feel that this contribution was important because the stub article had been listed under high priority. I felt that I was benefiting the world even though I feel that what information we added was not that substantial in and of itself. Just by adding to the article it got the article live and out there for public viewing. I feel that I get more out of writing a paper but this was more substantial because other people will actually see it.

Do you plan to keep editing Wikipedia on your own? If so, what will you work on? (If you'd be interested in training to become a Wikipedia Ambassador to help other students get started on Wikipedia, say so here and we'll follow up with you.)

... I will probably not. It seems that the topics that are still in stub form are very narrow topics that would be difficult to find sources. Being a horrible researcher I doubt I would be of any help even if I tried.

Are there any editors you'd like to thank for their help?

... Our ambassador The Interior.

Which class were you in?

...[Education Program:Rice University/Poverty, Gender, and Human Development Section 2 (Spring 2013)]. I worked on the [immigration to Greece] page, which was pretty nonexistent before I got there.

What did you have the most trouble with?

... The formatting and guidelines specific to Wikipedia was the most challenging. You are used to writing a very specific type of paper for class, usually argumentative, but that style is very different on Wikipedia and takes some getting used to. Additionally, sourcing, citations, etc, is very different. The trouble most relates to getting used to the new format, as opposed to actual difficulties and struggles.

Did you take the "Training for Students" before you started your assignment? If so, how well did it prepare you for editing?

... Yes. It prepared me a little bit, and at least provided some resources that I could check back with once I started editing and adding.

Is there anything you really wish you'd been told right when you were starting?

...Not that I can think of. It would have been nice to know that other Wiki editors are so competent and helpful and really want to work to make the best page possible, but it was a pleasant surprise!

What kind of feedback did you get from classmates and other Wikipedia editors? Did you review the work of other students?

... Two of my classmates reviewed my page and gave some great feedback in the talk page. I also reviewed two of my peers for their work on [domestic violence in India] and [emotional labor].

Did you get specific instructions about copyright and plagiarism before beginning your assignment? How does Wikipedia's treatment of copyright and plagiarism issues match up with what you expected?

... We got a few directions and were directed to pages to read more. Wikipedia is much more strict with citations that I had thought, given its reputation. I'm still not sure I have a complete grasp on the exact way that Wikipedia wants things cited, but I did my best, and Wiki editors helped me out a bit.

Did you follow what happened to your article and its talk page after you made your edits? Do you plan to keep an eye on how it evolves after your course ends?

... It has not been long on this particular page, but last semester I wrote the [human trafficking in Greece] page and I love checking back on it. Some Wiki editors from all over have commented and given me feedback, and I'm always checking the history to see if anyone is adding.

Did you feel that your work on Wikipedia mattered? Did it matter more or less than a regular term paper or essay?

... I feel like it was more difficult than a normal paper, but it definitely matters more and I am much more proud of what I did. I had my family look at the page right before I updated it and then again after I made the change, and they were astounded! It's great to be able to share what I've been working on, and it feels great to know that I've added valuable, relevant knowledge on a subject matter that's really important. People around the world can learn more about the immigration situation in Greece, which is a huge part of the political and cultural dialogue over there, and they never would have been able to without my work. It's really affirming.

Do you plan to keep editing Wikipedia on your own? If so, what will you work on? (If you'd be interested in training to become a Wikipedia Ambassador to help other students get started on Wikipedia, say so here and we'll follow up with you.)

... I would like to this summer, at least to get my two pages to GA status. I'm not sure if I would really have time to do this outside of a class setting, but maybe if there was a paper I had to write for class that I could turn into a Wiki article or at least add to an existing one, that might be doable.

Are there any editors you'd like to thank for their help?

... [Khazar2] helped a lot on my first human trafficking in Greece page, and provided a lot of feedback that really made me feel confident and good about what I was doing. Thank you!

Any other feedback you'd like to share?

... Not that I can think of!

Which class were you in?

...Poverty, Gender, and Human Development

What did you have the most trouble with?

...Wiki code, especially the citation format.

Did you take the "Training for Students" before you started your assignment? If so, how well did it prepare you for editing?

...Yes, I think it prepared me for the basics but wasn't helpful for troubleshooting.

Is there anything you really wish you'd been told right when you were starting?

...Save a lot of time for troubleshooting

What kind of feedback did you get from classmates and other Wikipedia editors? Did you review the work of other students?

...I got a lot of good feedback from Wiki course ambassadors as well as my peers. I also gave feedback to my peers.

Did you get specific instructions about copyright and plagiarism before beginning your assignment? How does Wikipedia's treatment of copyright and plagiarism issues match up with what you expected?

...I got a handout about plagiarism, but I won't say I read it. I did get some feedback on citing every sentence from an ambassador, so that was helpful. I'd say it matched what I expected.

Did you follow what happened to your article and its talk page after you made your edits? Do you plan to keep an eye on how it evolves after your course ends?

...Yes, I also edited an article for a class last semester and I still check up on it sometimes. I have been keeping an eye on my talk page currently to help me make my final edits as the semester ends.

Did you feel that your work on Wikipedia mattered? Did it matter more or less than a regular term paper or essay?

...Yes, I did feel like it was more meaningful classwork than what a paper on the same subject would have been. It's also fun to check on it later to see what people are doing to it.

Do you plan to keep editing Wikipedia on your own? If so, what will you work on? (If you'd be interested in training to become a Wikipedia Ambassador to help other students get started on Wikipedia, say so here and we'll follow up with you.)

...Probably not, the research is very time consuming for a leisure activity. Maybe when I'm old and have a boring job.

Are there any editors you'd like to thank for their help?

...Yes, Mike Christie has been very helpful and diligent in giving me a lot of good advice.

Any other feedback you'd like to share?

...Overall, I'd say working with wiki for classwork has been a good experience. I think it's nice to know how it works and have the knowledge to make edits in the future if I ever come across the desire to.

Is there anything you really wish you'd been told right when you were starting?

...Not really. Everything was laid out pretty well.

What kind of feedback did you get from classmates and other Wikipedia editors? Did you review the work of other students?

...Mostly positive feedback and I gave reviews of other work as well. Very good rapport with editors and other students for the most part.

Did you get specific instructions about copyright and plagiarism before beginning your assignment? How does Wikipedia's treatment of copyright and plagiarism issues match up with what you expected?

...Yes and the treatment of plagarism is on par with what I would expect from this site.

Did you follow what happened to your article and its talk page after you made your edits? Do you plan to keep an eye on how it evolves after your course ends?

...Yes. I fully intend on keeping up on this page as I have really enjoyed the project.

Did you feel that your work on Wikipedia mattered? Did it matter more or less than a regular term paper or essay?

...I enjoyed it much more than a regular term paper or essay and it seems to make more of a difference in that it can be veiwed by the masses.

Did you take the "Training for Students" before you started your assignment? If so, how well did it prepare you for editing?

...Yes...it helped a ton!

Is there anything you really wish you'd been told right when you were starting?

...It takes a lot of hard work to edit and add to things already written, you have to be willing to construct a clear focus for what it is your words can contribute to the articles you are working on.

What kind of feedback did you get from classmates and other Wikipedia editors? Did you review the work of other students?

...I'm going to start reviewing others soon...and feedback from classmates during class discussion seemed mostly that they thought Wikipedia was an awesome resource but that it ispretty confusing to maneuver.

Did you get specific instructions about copyright and plagiarism before beginning your assignment? How does Wikipedia's treatment of copyright and plagiarism issues match up with what you expected?

...Yes...they matched up the same as to what I expected.

Did you follow what happened to your article and its talk page after you made your edits? Do you plan to keep an eye on how it evolves after your course ends?

...I will watch it and hopefully contribute to more articles I am passionate about researching in the future.

Did you feel that your work on Wikipedia mattered? Did it matter more or less than a regular term paper or essay?

...I didn't feel like it mattered THAT much but if I were to really take the time to make a large contribution on something I was truly passionate about working on, then it would have mattered a lot.

Which class were you in?

I did the project in my computer Science Class called "Contributing to the World's Knowledge, 11th Grade Computer Science."

What did you have the most trouble with?

I found finding source for the article difficult.

Did you take the "Training for Students" before you started your assignment? If so, how well did it prepare you for editing?

Yes, I took the training, and it prepared me very well for the assignment.

Is there anything you really wish you'd been told right when you were starting?

I wish if I knew that finding articles that I am interested in and needed to be edited are hard to find.

What kind of feedback did you get from classmates and other Wikipedia editors? Did you review the work of other students?

They told me that I needed to be more unbiased, and to write it just like an encyclopedia. I edited the work for other classmates, and I suggested them that their tone should be flat, and it should sound like a History paper.

Did you get specific instructions about copyright and plagiarism before beginning your assignment? How does Wikipedia's treatment of copyright and plagiarism issues match up with what you expected?

I received specific instructions about copy right and plagiarism from my Computer Science teacher before I even started to edit the article. My expectations matched well with Wikipedia's treatment because my teacher has prepared well for it.

Did you follow what happened to your article and its talk page after you made your edits? Do you plan to keep an eye on how it evolves after your course ends?

Yes, I did and so far no one has added anything to it. I am willing to accept suggestions from others and make the article even better even if my class project has ended.

Did you feel that your work on Wikipedia mattered? Did it matter more or less than a regular term paper or essay?

I strongly believed that this project was something that was important not only for my grades, but also for the world. I got the chance to contribute to the world's education.

Do you plan to keep editing Wikipedia on your own? If so, what will you work on? (If you'd be interested in training to become a Wikipedia Ambassador to help other students get started on Wikipedia, say so here and we'll follow up with you.)

I want to keep editing Wikipedia in the future because I want be a part of that huge community that contributes to other people's education. I want to edit the sections that focus on human rights issues, like honor killing in some countries, or hate crime.

Are there any editors you'd like to thank for their help?

I want to thank Mandeq for her help, and my instructor who gave me the tools that I needed to complete this project successfully.

Any other feedback you'd like to share?

I would really like if the Visual Editor improves, so in the future editors will have an easy enjoyable time editing Wikipedia.

Which class were you in?

Contemporary Art and Geopolitics in the Middle East

What did you have the most trouble with?

Uploading photos because of the copyright. At the end of the day, I didn't upload any.

Did you take the "Training for Students" before you started your assignment? If so, how well did it prepare you for editing?

No.

Is there anything you really wish you'd been told right when you were starting?

I knew what a wikipedia entry was about and the consequences of it.

What kind of feedback did you get from classmates and other Wikipedia editors? Did you review the work of other students?

None

Did you get specific instructions about copyright and plagiarism before beginning your assignment? How does Wikipedia's treatment of copyright and plagiarism issues match up with what you expected?

I did, but i didn't expect it to be that strict especially concerning copyright photos of paintings.

Did you follow what happened to your article and its talk page after you made your edits? Do you plan to keep an eye on how it evolves after your course ends?

Yes, it's on my watch list.

Did you feel that your work on Wikipedia mattered? Did it matter more or less than a regular term paper or essay?

It does matter. However, I felt frustrated that I couldn't give more analysis, and it was only description. It is more useful for the world, but it would have been more useful to me to give a regular paper, with an analysis of the subject and my personal opinions.

Do you plan to keep editing Wikipedia on your own? If so, what will you work on? (If you'd be interested in training to become a Wikipedia Ambassador to help other students get started on Wikipedia, say so here and we'll follow up with you.)

Maybe. It's always useful.

Which class were you in?

...Boston College, Dr. Johnson's History of the American West

What did you have the most trouble with?

...Nothing stood out. I largely enjoyed the assignment. I did wait too long to post and got scooped as a result. That was the only downside.

Did you take the "Training for Students" before you started your assignment? If so, how well did it prepare you for editing?

...I did. It helped somewhat. The most useful part was the sort of philosophical/mission part which explained exactly what sort of content and sourcing Wikipedia looks for. I'd cut the bits on formatting and whatnot. I mostly looked up technical questions as I went.

Is there anything you really wish you'd been told right when you were starting?

...Just to move quickly and edit as you go. I think the sandbox idea made me somewhat timid. I would have produced a better article if I had simply had at it, and that way I wouldn't have been scooped. I could always go back and make a holistic edit at the end.

What kind of feedback did you get from classmates and other Wikipedia editors? Did you review the work of other students?

...Generally good. I did review the work of another student and found his work largely good.

Did you get specific instructions about copyright and plagiarism before beginning your assignment? How does Wikipedia's treatment of copyright and plagiarism issues match up with what you expected?

...Pretty straightforward. It's hard to spend much time in college (even high school really) without getting the point considering how central an issue it is these days.

Did you follow what happened to your article and its talk page after you made your edits? Do you plan to keep an eye on how it evolves after your course ends?

...I have and I do. I enjoy copy editing, so while I likely won't add much in terms of content, I will continue to make sure the spirit of the article is maintained and effectively conveyed by its style and a tone.

Did you feel that your work on Wikipedia mattered? Did it matter more or less than a regular term paper or essay?

...Yes to both. It really helped me to write about an individual, and I would recommend that to anyone who edits Wikipedia at some point. You feel a deep sense of responsibility to truthfully encapsulate a person's legacy.

Do you plan to keep editing Wikipedia on your own? If so, what will you work on? (If you'd be interested in training to become a Wikipedia Ambassador to help other students get started on Wikipedia, say so here and we'll follow up with you.)

...Yes. I'll mostly do copy edits. Content edits will be rare, but I'll do them on articles which cover subjects I consider myself an expert (or informed amateur) on. For instance, I edited the page on Paul Morphy only for clarity because I know little about him, but I will likely edit the page on Wounded Knee because I know that many historians (myself included) think it's silly to characterize the event as a "battle," yet the Wikipedia page does so.

Are there any editors you'd like to thank for their help?

...

Any other feedback you'd like to share?

...Just that I enjoyed the assignment. I think it's wise for Wikipedia to reach out to college students and professors. That effort ought to substantially improve the quality of less-viewed articles.

Do you plan to keep editing Wikipedia on your own? If so, what will you work on? (If you'd be interested in training to become a Wikipedia Ambassador to help other students get started on Wikipedia, say so here and we'll follow up with you.)

...

Are there any editors you'd like to thank for their help?

...

Any other feedback you'd like to share?

...

Which class were you in?

...

What did you have the most trouble with?

...

Did you take the "Training for Students" before you started your assignment? If so, how well did it prepare you for editing?

...

Is there anything you really wish you'd been told right when you were starting?

...

What kind of feedback did you get from classmates and other Wikipedia editors? Did you review the work of other students?

...

Did you get specific instructions about copyright and plagiarism before beginning your assignment? How does Wikipedia's treatment of copyright and plagiarism issues match up with what you expected?

...

Did you follow what happened to your article and its talk page after you made your edits? Do you plan to keep an eye on how it evolves after your course ends?
