Guide to organizing a simple event

edit

There are three points of the days to keep in mind for planning:

  • Pick a starting point for the day, probably outside near a downtown landmark. Greet everyone and explain how it all works. Bring a Wikipedia sign or something similar for recognition!
  • Have a big group photo-walk touring different historic sites around town, or alternatively teams can go out on their own. (Don't forget your cameras!)
  • Optionally, designate a cozy spot for an after-party in the evening, can be a bar or restaurant. If you can upload some photos there too, all the better.

Photo events by region

edit

Wikipedia Takes America events can be held on any day in September 2012.

With grassroots organizing help from local Wikipedia:Meetup groups and the Wikimedians Active in Local Regions of the United States (WALRUS) committee...

Everyone is free to start a Wikipedia Takes America page for your own city, and please sign up at your city's meetup page:

  • Redlands, CA
  • Riverside, CA -- There are enough NHR entries and monuments here to take up the whole day. I'll organize (or help) organize Riverside. If whomever listed Redlands would prefer? We can coordinate dates to avoid overlap. Pref later in Sept when temps have dropped below 100! Pls leave me a note. Cynthisa (talk) 08:43, 14 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Olympia, WA, anyone?
  • Western Nevada. With the exception of Reno, our towns are obviously too small individually to really do one of these, but maybe we can all get together and photograph Western Nevada as a whole. It'd be a great way to photograph the region, Wikipedia has a serious lack of images of it. If you live in Clark, Churchill, Douglas, Lyon, Mineral, Storey, or Washoe county (or Carson City), contact me. I think we can turn this into a weekend tour. -TBustah
