The participants of the photo-hunt can win more than $1,500 in prizes, plus a chance to see their best photographs on the main page of Wikipedia. In addition to the participation prizes, there are many ways to win:
Winners by draw
editAt the end of the hunt, the names of all amateur photographers who participated will be put in a draw for several prizes.
Winners by points
editAt the end of the hunt, participants will upload their photos onto Wikimedia Commons using one of the uploading station that will be available to them. Once the upload is complete, the tool will calculate the points earned by the team (or by photographer), and the person(s) who have accumulated the most points will win. The first three winners will gift certificates to store of their choice. Winners will be announced at the after-event and on this page.
The winners can choose the merchant of their choice for their gift certificates. The gift certificate will be sent by mail in the days following the event. If several people are part of a team, the gift will be divided between team members. Each team member may select the merchant of their choice. The list of merchants that follows is only a proposal.
Winner of best picture
editThe person or team that takes the best photo will win the grand prize, a digital SLR camera Nikon D3100 18-55VR. An independent jury will select the best photo taken during the hunt. The jury will consist of members of some photographic clubs of Quebec. The jury members are not contributors to Wikipedia and do not participate in the photo scavenger hunt.
The jury will have the task of selecting the best shot after the list is narrowed by a pre-screening by the members of Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons (see below). The photos will also be judged by Wikimedia Commons' featured images process and could earn a spot on the home page of Wikipedia.
