I think we need an image uploading and adding references handouts. Also, a handout could be made from here. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 18:05, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
- A really good referencing handout is basically done, by Awadewit. I think it's still undergoing some minor adjustments, but it will probably be available soon. An image uploading handout is definitely a key need as well; I expect someone (whether me or Awadewit or someone else) will make one in time for next term.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 18:10, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
- The referencing handout just needs prettifying. I'll work on making an image handout next. Awadewit (talk) 16:32, 10 November 2010 (UTC)
Good job. I had an idea one more handout: the interaction handout. That would tell the students about discussion/talk pages, and would include information on:
- bottomposting
- starting a new thread
- threaded discussions
- signing posts
- wikiquette
- syndication (Wikipedia:Syndication) - about how they can get email notifications when somebody posts to a page they should be monitoring

Teaching with Wikipedia slides
edit- Piotr Konieczny, Teaching with Wikipedia and other Wikimedia Foundation wikis, Slides from WikiSym '10 workshop
I think they would be a useful addition, but for obvious COI reasons, I'd appreciate a second opinion before adding them here :) --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 03:29, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
- Yup, one of the more helpful slideshows I've seen. Also, the link you have to .odp doesn't work because it includes the ) in the link when it shouldn't. upstateNYer (Ambassador) 05:40, 20 January 2011 (UTC)
Licensing tutorial
editHi! I'm glad the Licensing tutorial is referenced on this page. However, I'm wondering if "Advanced" is the appropriate level. The tutorial was specifically created for the average beginner, and explains the basics of copyright and free licenses in plain English. guillom 14:17, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
- I changed it; I'm not sure why it was labeled advanced. I'm not sure those "level" indicators are helpful for these resources, anyhow. It's not as if there are well-defined levels; some people quickly learn a lot about one area of how to do things on Wikipedia, but little about other areas.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 15:04, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
- Ok, thanks :) I didn't want to do it myself because I didn't know what the levels were based on. guillom 19:26, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
An off-wiki video repository?
edit- continued discussion from the ambassadors mailing list
Basket of Puppies has created some screencasts specifically for the class he is supporting. We have a growing number of other videos. Should we be uploading them somewhere else, such as YouTube or archive.org? If so, should we create a new account?--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 03:04, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
- I think it would be useful to upload on external sites as well for accessibility as well as for extra exposure. http://www.youtube.com/user/WikimediaFoundation is the current account, I believe. I think creating a new account would allow for easier separation of content, but don't feel strongly about the matter. Airplaneman ✈ 03:11, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
- All videos should be cloned to YouTube, where in description they (and preferably, in the video, but reediting may be hard) they would link back to this page. YouTube is a great advertising place, and if we use it well it could significantly improve the visibility of our project here. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 03:14, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
- I'd say to make a new user account ("Wikipedia Ambassadors"?) just for ease of organization and searching, but uploading to Youtube wouldn't be a bad idea. Many more people are familiar with that site rather than Commons. Ed [talk] [majestic titan] 03:25, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
- I agree, a new account is what we'd probably want. For one thing, it would mean we could be more liberal with giving out uploading privileges; I think uploads to WikimediaFoundation account would need to go through WMF staff, and I suspect Jay and Moka wouldn't be okay with flooding that channel with everything we make, since it tends to get used for high production value vids.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 03:33, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

- I think (hope) I do an OK job of making videos that are straight and to the point, lacking verbosity and excessive explanation. If you all have an idea as to a topic that should be covered just let me know and I'll whip one up. Basket of Puppies 03:45, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
- See my wish list at the bottom of Wikipedia:Ambassadors/Resources#Videos. I wonder if when discuss references we should introduce students to Google Scholar and Google Books, and this useful gadget? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 03:48, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

It sounds like we are going to go ahead and create a separate account (the name Wikipedia Ambassadors sounds good). If it is created, should the password be shared amongst the Ambassadors (via the mailing list) or held by one person who uploads the content? Airplaneman ✈ 05:08, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
- We should make it WikipediaOnCampus to match the facebook page (at least, I think that's what it is). Ambassadors won't be immediately understood by those unfamiliar with WP. I also think that keeping the password limited to one person or only a few should be safer because the mailing list has a lot of people on it. Maybe everyone can upload any videos they make to Commons first, and list them at our resources page, and then whoever has the password can check periodically for updates, upload them to YouTube, and also post that on facebook? /ƒETCHCOMMS/ 15:50, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
- Sounds good. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 17:03, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
- I like the idea. Airplaneman ✈ 18:54, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

Updated online coruse syllabus - good enough to link?
editI've finished updating my Wikipedia:School and university projects/Piotrus course intro boilerplate. Do you think it is useful enough to link to? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 22:17, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
- I've linked this from the Education Portal on outreach wiki, which is aimed at (potential) instructors rather than ambassadors.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 16:07, 19 May 2011 (UTC)
Slides? No, pdfs
editShouldn't the "Classroom training slides" be available as slides? I thought about showing some in my class, but pdf's - I won't bother with those, sorry. Too cumbersome. Presentation slides, now those I could use. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 22:10, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah, they should be. We have them on Google Docs, and we could probably share them publicly from there. (Alternatively, we could also upload them to wikimediafoundation.org as .odp files.) But hopefully (fingers crossed) we'll have a better solution soon with Commons and the ability for admins to upload restricted file types like open office documents and zip files. But note that it's usually pretty easy to display a PDF as a slideshow.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 16:10, 19 May 2011 (UTC)
Comments on the sample syllabus brochure
editReviewing the Sample syllabus brochure:
- the "Research and list 3–5 articles on your Wikipedia user page that you will consider working on as your main project. Ask your Online Ambassador mentor for comments." is duplicated (pages 2 and ). One should go.

Prezi on teaching with Wikipedia
editPrezi. Geared towards the instructors, I presented it at the teaching session for the American Sociological Association. I'd like to add it to our resource page, if you are fine? You should also be able to copy and edit it to make a different version (and yes, it is licensed under CC-BY-SA, although one could quibble about the use of screenshots :>). --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 18:08, 26 August 2011 (UTC)
- I would argue that the screen shots are a de minimis use of non free material compared to the whole presentation and could be looked at as sources. --Guerillero | My Talk 21:05, 10 November 2011 (UTC)
- Ummm, meaning what? I think I am missing your point here. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk to me 02:02, 11 November 2011 (UTC)
- That people should not quibble about the screen shots --Guerillero | My Talk 03:55, 11 November 2011 (UTC)
- Ah, I'd hope that they wouldn't. Nobody did so far... --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk to me 08:24, 11 November 2011 (UTC)

- Hey there. I have no problem with you adding it to the current list of videos in the same format. Best regards, Cind.amuse (Cindy) 10:22, 18 November 2011 (UTC)
