Assignments

Hello (possible) participants. I cannot access facebook or flickr where I am. I can register and try to find my way around deviantart. I hear there are groups there. As you can see, I've contacted some colleges and can contact way more. All that Wikipedia needs now is participants to contact the outside world to get this mini-project noticed. Anyone? What's the need for the rush now? As Stabila wrote, "People who are interested probably have to run it by a few people at the University first." Why can't we allow them the time to do that? Also, why rush head over heels in the next activity? There were a number of ideas proposed at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Arts#Resident_sketch_artist; wouldn't it be a good time for taking stock of those other ideas now? — Sebastian 01:51, 3 November 2015 (UTC)

I registered an account there. It sent me a confirmation email to click to confirm things. The email had an unclickable confirmation link. No idea why. However, I've explored the site. New contacts needed

Well, with around a dozen emails landing in India and no response, I am fresh out of ideas. I sorely regret allowing this much preparation to go into this. I don't regret the time we invested: If we hadn't given it our best, we would now not know if that was the reason it didn't catch on. And if it had caught on, it would have been much better that such things as the registering functionality were in place. Don't worry, Sebastian. I often see time I invest at Wikipedia this way. I often try to reform the unconstructive knowing that only a certain percentage of cases will pay off. This may very well be a few hours lost, but other ventures bring great returns.

If there is a new project, I will bug you at your talk. :)

As for this, well, there are still one or two chances: We could find a user who uses their real name and ask if they will post at Facebook groups and Flickr groups. You mentioned class projects. That could be a good plan. There might be more that we haven't thought of yet. Let's think outside the box. What have we missed? Where are these artists? Who are they? Where do they congregate? Sorry, if I'm a bit out of touch. What is the "real name" requirement for? As for the further course, I think it is time for the community to take over. The tried and proven Wikipedia approach is crowdsourcing. Now that the infrastructure is there, it depends on the community to use it. That's the fundamental way Wikipedia works: If an article needs improving, there will be people who will make it happen. If we can't bring up the enthusiasm here, we can't expect to create it in other social venues. — Sebastian 03:48, 27 November 2015 (UTC)
