Hi Dr. Ogg. I got totally confused by the Wiki assignment and stupidly thought we were just supposed to create our username this unit. I have now found the course page and worked through the steps described in the instructions. I'm sorry and understand any penalty for my tardy submission.
Group page
editHello all! Can anyone tell me how I can access my group page? Oalnafo1 (talk) 03:58, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
- Sure if you go back to the class' main page, just keep scrolling down, it is under the "Groups and Students" Section, then the next section is "Groups"

Wikipedia Template Filling Tool
editHas any else gotten the Wikipedia Template Filling Tool to work? I click on the link for it, but the page doesn't seem to load. I also went to the instructions page for it and it says at the top "The template filler has recently been moved to the Wikimedia toolserver". Anyway, not sure if I'm just missing something or if the link is just broken. Thanks! LutyeusMaximus (talk) 12:50, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
- Hi, thanks for writing a message about this. It seems this has been down for a while, and I forgot to follow up on it. User:Diberri doesn't seem to be answering his messages, so he's perhaps moved on to other projects. I put a notice on the instructions page that it's down, and I'll update the course pages to reflect that. Instead, just use the "cite journal" template that you get right from the editor, or else Holek's citation template generator. They seem to do almost exactly the same thing, so just using the "cite journal" tool is probably easier. Klortho (talk) 16:45, 2 October 2013 (UTC)

- I wanted to give everyone this link for Converting PMCID -> PMID, it was very useful for me.

- Well, I'm curious: why would you need to convert between PMCIDs and PMIDs? Don't you usually just start with a PMID? In other words, don't you start your searches in PubMed, and, if necessary, go to PMC via a hyperlink? Just curious. Klortho (talk) 01:59, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
- You are correct, and I just tried to figure out why exactly I got in the situation and I couldn't re-create it initially, but I think I figured out what must have happened; I first searched and article on PubMed and clicked the link to go to PMC so I could read the full article, then after reading the article and wanting to change my search criteria I just searched in the top of that window (essentially searching in PMC instead of PubMed, without realizing/thinking about it). I then found the article I wanted but being in PMC I could only find the PMCID and not just the PMID, so I used the converter to figure it out. At the time I didn't realize I had even switched over to PMC. What exactly is the difference?/Is there a difference as far as quality of articles, research, etc...? LutyeusMaximus (talk) 16:50, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
- There's no difference in that sort of thing. The difference is that PubMed is just abstracts, but PMC is full-text articles. So, the coverage is different, too: there are a lot more articles in PubMed than in PMC -- PMC only has those articles that the publishers have agreed to let NCBI display the full text for. Unit 11 Article to Review
editJust wanted to let someone know that for Unit 11, where we have to do our second review, the article for our second review is not listed in the Student / Article table on the main course page. Thanks! LutyeusMaximus (talk) 21:41, 13 November 2013 (UTC)
- I noticed this as well and was hoping that someone can clarify as to what article we are to review.Sridenour (talk) 20:50, 16 November 2013 (UTC)
