Survey of world history since the French Revolution. Topics may include: industrialization, nationalism and imperialism, the two World Wars, the Russian Revolution, the Cold War, and the march towards globalization.
This course encompasses two interrelated sets of objectives: some are related to the discipline of History, others to information literacy skills. At the end of this course, students should be able to:
- Identify most major turning points that shaped world history over the period of study;
- Explain the rise of European hegemony and its later decline in the political, if not the cultural, realm;
- Correlate the influences of social, economic, political, religious, and scientific factors in shaping the modern world;
- Discuss historical topics related to the course in an informed manner;
- Locate and critically assess the value of various sources of information (primary and secondary) for historical research;
- Contribute to the sharing of reliable historical information about the period with classmates and with others;
- Share their passion for world history with anyone willing to listen!
