Wikipedia talk:Featured article candidates/Borodino-class battlecruiser/archive2
The Borodino-class battlecruisers were a group of four battlecruisers ordered by the Imperial Russian Navy before World War I for service with the Baltic Fleet. Construction of the ships was delayed by a lack of capacity among domestic factories and the need to order some components from abroad and the start of the war in 1914 slowed their construction still further. All of the ships were launched in 1915–1916, but it became evident that Russian industry would not be able to complete them during the war. The Russian Revolution of 1917 halted all work on the ships. Although some consideration was given to finishing the hulls that were nearest to completion, they were all eventually sold for scrap by the Soviet Union. The Soviet Navy proposed to convert Izmail, the ship closest to completion, to an aircraft carrier in 1925, but the plan was cancelled after political manoeuvring by the Red Army led to funding not being available. Sturmvogel, are you interested in doing this blurb from April 2018? (What's there now is basically the lead text. It hasn't been scheduled yet, we're just finishing up blurbs for everything that was promoted in 2018. 925-1025 characters.) - Dank (push to talk) 03:43, 7 December 2019 (UTC)
- I trimmed it a bit, see how it reads now.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 13:51, 7 December 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks. It looks great, but the character counter here is showing 1220 (including last sentence). We're looking for 925–1025. - Dank (push to talk) 14:32, 7 December 2019 (UTC)
- This latest revision cuts it to 1006 if it's acceptable.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 15:14, 7 December 2019 (UTC)
- I get 1079, including "(This article is part of a featured topic: Battlecruisers of the world.)". - Dank (push to talk) 15:23, 7 December 2019 (UTC)
- Oh, that's what you meant about the last sentence. Lemme see what's vulnerable to further cutting...--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 15:25, 7 December 2019 (UTC)
- 1018 now and there's not any fat remaining that I can see.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 15:31, 7 December 2019 (UTC)
- I take that back; too many usages of "the ships" in close conjunction.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 15:33, 7 December 2019 (UTC)
- That works. - Dank (push to talk) 15:40, 7 December 2019 (UTC)
