Val Venis, who became the eighth champion as Steele

The CMLL World Heavyweight Championship is a professional wrestling world heavyweight championship established in 1991 and promoted by Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL). CMLL introduced the championship to signal their independence from the National Wrestling Alliance, whose titles they had continued to promote after leaving the alliance in the late 1980s. CMLL created world championship titles for several weight divisions. The World Heavyweight Championship was the first to be created, and the inaugural champion was Konnan el Bárbaro. The current champion is Hechicero, who defeated Último Guerrero to win the title on September 24, 2021. Seventeen wrestlers have held the championship, split over twenty-one separate reigns. As this title is a professional wrestling championship, it is won not by actual competition, but by a scripted ending to a match. MPJ-DK (and anyone else interested): thoughts and edits are welcome. There's no rush; this hasn't been scheduled at TFA yet. This batch finishes up blurbs for FACs promoted in 2017. - Dank (push to talk) 04:42, 11 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
