Yuen Long New Town
User:AP71 insists that Yuen Long New Town dose never exist, and eliminated the article thrice (also in Yuen Long Town and Yuen Long District), I would like to raise a discussion to avoid any edit war. Please discuss in Talk:Yuen Long New Town. — HenryLi (Talk) 15:32, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
- Actually i am getting CRAZY with these new town articles! Yuen Long is one of the cases only. I can't imagine why 3 articles can co-exist, for example, Tuen Mun, Tuen Mun New Town and Tuen Mun District? What is the difference? 屯門, 屯門區, 屯門新市鎮 (the chinese names of the respective articles) although sound a little bit different, i can't see any reason why can't they be merged in ONE article. I do think that AP71 don't have strong reason to do that, but he raised my concern that why can these confusing articles can exist... --Spring Dennis 07:08, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
- Agree that these articles are quite a mess. I think Tuen Mun and Tuen Mun District can have separate entries because the district covers more area than the area (in Tuenmun's case, the District also include Tai Lam which can't be said to be part of Tuen Mun the area), but the new town stubs border on being non-notable. I would suggest to merge all the new town stubs into one article that discuss the new town planning in Hongkong in general (sourcing from New town#Hong Kong) as well as the specifics in each new town. --Pkchan 14:56, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
- Each new town has its own history and other details. — Instantnood 09:32, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
- Each new town has its own history, so Yuen Long New Town history can merge into Yuen Long under a section "history". i agree that district can co-exists, but i think the District page should not cover content of area. Example in district page, list the area covered is enough --Joetsuihk 09:24, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
It has been months since Current events in Hong Kong and Macao was last updated. What is the community's view on this? Should we (and are we able to) devote more resources here to keep it up-to-date? Or merge it with a page covering a wider area (eg Current events in East Asia? Or delete it outright? --Pkchan 17:01, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
- Note that the page is now proposed to be merged to Chinese current events (which is up-to-date till September 2005). --Pkchan 17:49, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
I'll give my vote supporting the merger esp since that way the HK current events notice board may be more frequently updated that way. Although HK is a SAR, it is now a part of the PRC (I know some HK Wikipedians may not agree). Jazza 17:07, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
Cyd Ho's page
I've done some major edits there so that it reads like a Wikipedia page, as well as not being bogged down in "HK English". However, if someone has the time it would be great if someone could fill in more about her background etc.
Also, more work needs to be done on HK Politicians' webpages. If I had more time, I would write them, but it's easier if someone researched the information and I just gave it an English 'edit'. Jazza 18:24, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
save image from deletion on zh
I updated the license on the en version of this image by request, but apparently it is up for deletion on zh. [1]. My ability to work in Chinese characters is too slow to deal with that deletion. The license is perfectly fine, it pre-dates the "fair use ban" so it shouldn't even be nominated for deletion. The important part of the license is that Wikipedia, specifically, has permission to use the image. Can someone who can work on zh fix this for me? SchmuckyTheCat 16:12, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

廣東話拼音 on Cantonese edition of Wikipedia
I was wondering if any one here has an opinion on a matter occuring at the Cantonese edition of Wikipedia. It concerns the 廣東話拼音 article, which is a romanization system for Cantonese called Penkyamp in English. This system appears to be devised by a group of people who are trying to popularize it through Wikipedia. The article for Penkyamp was deleted in the English edition because it was determined to be non-notable and original research (see Wikipedia:Votes_for_deletion/Penkyamp). I am trying to raise the same issue in the Cantonese edition here, however my Cantonese ability is admittedly rather limited as it is not really my native language and I lack enough vocabulary to make coherent arguments. Would anyone here like to weigh in on the matter? —Umofomia 04:51, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
- Personally, I'm against the popularization of Penkyamp, as another widely used romanizing scheme that's used even by the HK gov. is in motion: Jyutping. --Deryck C. 12:30, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
WikiProject China
WikiProject China has been started and is looking for interested contributors to improve all China-related articles. Hong Kong, as we all know, is part of China. :p There doesn't seem to be a Hong Kong-specific WikiProject, though there is a noticeboard (this, lol) and collaboration. And a portal, too. I hope that HK editors can hop over and take a look, and if possible help with some stuff (such as tagging articles, and adding yourself to the list of participants :p ). -- Миборовский 23:30, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

There is still a cinema complex in this location (corner of Patterson St and Great George Street), though I think the name has been changed. The building itself has not been demolished.Rodparkes 03:55, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
Featured article: BOC(HK)
Just wanted to bring this to the HK board's attention, and to congratulate anyone involved with that page. Should we have a list of HK-related articles which made it to the featured page? Jsw663 00:21, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
Info box of pronunication
User:Alanmak and User:Instantnood made a edit was on the use info box over the pronunication of Chinese characters over Hong Kong topics for a period of time. Alanmak is an advocate of info box and Instantnood is in favour of traditional inline. I would like to find the consensus on the issues in the community.
- Argument for pronuciation infobox
- Infobox consolidates all kinds of pronunciations in one box and shorten the title sentences.
- Korean has setup an example of the use info box, like Korean reunification
- Argument for inline pronuciation text after title
- The use of does not agree with Wikipedia:Manual of Style (China-related articles). Most articles use uniform template for pronunciation and it is odd to apply an infobox for Hong Kong topics only. According to the style, infobox is currently limited to person with multiple names and pronunciations like Sun Yat-sen.
- It is also rare use info box for multilingual titles in other languages. Most of them using inline style like Inner Mongolia.
- Pronuciation infobox is distracting and the pronunciation is not a summary of topic suitable for infobox.
- Pronuciation infobox occupied the top space of title image.
- Examples
The comparision can be found on the article Kowloon:

- Can't decide... "... it is odd to apply an infobox for Hong Kong topics only", while "Korean has setup an example of the use info box"... --K.C. Tang 09:29, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
Support the use of infobox
Few languages, other than Korean, uses the box-style. WP:UE stipulates the use of inline style. WP:MOS-ZH provides for the box format, but it suggests to use the box format for biographical articles for people who has/had multiple names. Using the box format would mess up the top right hand corner of an article, where many navigational templates, images and pictures are located. One more point to note: User:Alanmak is turning inline-style to the box-style he prefers not only to Hong Kong-related articles. He is doing so to many articles unrelated to Hong Kong. — Instantnood 16:45, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

why we do not use the Wikipedia:WikiProject Hong Kong but a Wikipedia:HK_wikipedians'_notice_board? --Joetsuihk 06:38, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- HK wikipedians accustom to utilise notice board. Why plausible reasons for change? — HenryLi (Talk) 13:26, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- most other worldwide city and countries use wikiproject instead of notice board. --Joetsuihk 02:38, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
Not really.
From Wikipedia:Regional notice boards,
“ | Like WikiProjects, regional notice boards exist to help editors collaborate with each other in order to improve a specific set of articles related to certain geographical locations (regions).
Unlike most WikiProjects, the scope for regional notice boards is very broad, covering a wide variety of regional topics. Additionally, these boards are structured differently than WikiProjects. Rather than attempting to standardize and unify a set of articles, regional notice boards seek to simply improve a broad category of articles. Regional notice boards are complementary to WikiProjects. It is altogether possible that a board's topics will overlap with one or more WikiProjects, and this is fine. The boards are a more general, informal, and user-friendly means of collaboration. |
” |
There are many active Wikipedian notice boards serving the same function. Its infrastructure has been built here for more than a year and HK wikipedian accustoms to current configuration. There is no value to change other than for seek of uniformity.
The really problem here is that there are fewer and fewer HK wikipedians writing new articles and adding content about Hong Kong. Some wikipedians here edit only for insiting their political point of view without collaborating. As fewer and fewer HK wikipedian here, no one voices here and it is hard to form consensus these days. — HenryLi (Talk) 01:42, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
Merging Ferry Pier (KCR) with Tuen Mun Ferry Pier
I want to merge Ferry Pier (KCR) with the Tuen Mun Ferry Pier article because they are about the same place and they are about the same transportation hub. If possible, I would also like to include some new information about the bus terminus and Pierhead Garden in this proposed new article. Please put your suggestions on my talk page, the talk page of Tuen Mun Ferry Pier or the talk page of Ferry Pier (KCR) Sir Studieselot 02:21, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
- I will wait a few more days before merging the two articles, so please speak up now. Other than that, I also need some help with merging articles and I don't know what I should call this new article so please give your opinions.

Primary schools in Northern Ireland
I have been adding Primary schools articles for Northern Ireland, largely stubs, to which new contributors have started to add to and develop etc, but have come under attack by people proposing that all such primary school articles should be deleted as being non-notable etc. You can see the debate at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Abercorn Primary School. A little help would be useful (assuming you agree with my arguments). I have been quoting Hong Kong as a precedent area where primary schools are listed and articles appear. Thanks. China, PRC, Mainland China, and Hong Kong categorisation
I posted a note some time ago about categorisation relating to Hong Kong (and on the same basis, Macau) at the categorisation project page. I invite anyone interested in such matters to participate, either there on in some other centralised location. Similar issues seem to arise at any number of CFD and SFD debates, it would be good to have an agreed approach to the subject in general, rather than tackling them on a one-off basis every time. - This notice board is basically functionally defunct. You can check the newer Wikipedia:WikiProject Hong Kong and its Collaboration of the Month. Not much activity there either, but I think we should try to inject some activity there. At any rate, I think some of the editors who are very interested in HK-related topics have gone over to the Cantonese Wikipedia. Hong Qi Gong (Talk - Contribs) 17:36, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
- in fact most "Projects" on Wikipedia are dormant if not dead, not just the Hong Kong one. To maintain a collaboration project on internet is indeed very difficult, every one has a real life after all ... so we don't need to be frustrated. Cheers.--K.C. Tang 01:26, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

HK Notice Board
The Hong Kong Notice Board and its "notices" on the project page and its talk page discussions are quickly depreciating, if they haven't already been fully yet. Due to the lack of activity on the Notice Board and the rise in WikiProject Hong Kong activity, I am proposing that we add a {{historical}} notice to the Notice Board project page, as is currently the case with the previous Hong Kong Collaboration of the Week. This will re-direct prospective and current editors to WikiProject Hong Kong where it will ensure that all efforts are co-ordinated and efforts will remain somewhat current and relevant. Any thoughts on this? Luke! 05:13, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
- I'm probably biased about this because I'm active in WPHK, but I think that's a good idea. Hong Qi Gong (Talk - Contribs) 05:18, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
The lack of any replies contesting the proposed disbandment of the Hong Kong Wikipedian's Notice Board here, within a period of 11 days shows that the contents of this notice board and all of its associated activities have been depreciated beyond their intended effectiveness. I have given notice by placing a {{historical}} notice on the main page and inviting future/present editors to join in the coordinated effort of WikiProject Hong Kong Luke! 02:57, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
