Mark of Cain's protection

edit

There are a number of things wrong with the above disinformation in the article...

  • According to MOSCAPS, In a biblical context "God" is always capitalized when referring to the Judeo-Christian deity.
  • Anachronism - In the days of Cain, his descendent Abraham was not yet born.
  • The out of context quote says nothing about the mark.
  • There is no vengeance in the citation, but judgment for killing his brother.
  • Cain appealed his judgment to the higher court of mercy and obtained a reduced sentence. Instead of being condemned to wander around as a fugitive in fear of vengeance, he was allowed to settle down, build a city, "dwell" in the land, raise a family, and have billions of descendents, including us, through Noah's wife Naamah. (Genesis 4:1–22)
  • The mark of Cain was a mark of protection. Instead of a "vengeful" punishment, he was protected from vengeance.

Do Wikipedia warning templates protect people from vengeance? Are templates more like a Scarlet Letter?

"Both feel a sense of relief, and Hester removes her scarlet letter and lets down her hair. The sun immediately breaks through the clouds and trees to illuminate her release and joy." – "Frustrated in his revenge, Chillingworth dies a year later."

The article needs rethinking and a rewrite. 172.129.202.168 (talk) 19:22, 8 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
