Wikipedia talk:Meetup/DC 22

Sept 17?

Would Saturday, September 17 work for folks, maybe 1 or 2pm? I'm interested in us doing a planning/working/editathon meetup, possibly at the DC public library (MLK). I think need to take stock of where we are with our GLAM and other outreach efforts and think as a group, what we want to do and if we have any particular priorities we want to focus on? Given lots of outside organizations are starting to come to us with lots of ideas, interest, proposals, etc., we can't necessarily say yes to everything, unless we have a better sense of what are capabilities and interests are, as a group and who/where to direct requests.

Discussion suggestion

I just wanted to offer up a couple discussion suggestions.

1. There is a relatively new thing called QRpedia that I think has great potential. This is especially true for things like the Smithsonian instution. Basically it would allow people looking at an artifact in the museum (or other places) to scan the barcode with their phone and it would link them to the Wikipedia page with more information about the object.
2. Another possibility is to discuss the Microgrants that the Wikimedia foundation mentioned at Wikimania.
3. We should also start talking about what workshops and events we want for Wikimania. Its gonna be here before we know it. --Kumioko (talk) 03:16, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
