July-August 2007 discussion
edit(header added for ease of navigation 15:23, 11 January 2008 (UTC))
I'm thinking about sometime in August, any ideas. Thanks Jaranda wat's sup 04:22, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
- Well, I'm away from the 25th to the 1st, but I can make it almost any other time. · AndonicO Talk 19:24, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
What about the 13th? Jaranda wat's sup 18:44, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
- I probably can make it then, depends on the time. What did you have in mind? · AndonicO Talk 18:54, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
Instead the 10 or the 11, which is Friday or Sauterday, likely out of town after those dates. A good place for the meetup is in the Doral, Florida area. Maybe somewhere near FIU. Thanks Jaranda wat's sup 16:27, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC is on the 12th which makes the 11th kinda tight. Okay.. not many people would go to both, but I probably would. 11th is also very short notice. :( If you set a hard date with at least a one week notice we can run a geonotice for it. So far it looks like geonotices are having a clearly positive impact on turnouts for other meetups.
My experience with other Wikipedia meetups is that having more notice is more important for turnout than having the best date. Two weeks notice seems to be the magic amount. --Gmaxwell 22:03, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
Go for it the geonotice, the best day in my opinion is Friday the 10th in the afternoon or evening, at Dolphin Mall, and there is a chance that I'll be in New York in the 12th, and may stop by for the picnic. Sorry about the date confusion. Thanks Jaranda wat's sup 22:07, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
- 10th/11th is too short a notice for me. I might make something, but it is less likely. Going away on a little vacation from the 16th to the 20th. Also, I'll be in an all-day CLE on the 24th which ends around 5:00PM. bd2412 T 18:55, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
Yea it is a little short of notice, maybe the 20th - 25th? so we have more planning here. Thanks Jaranda wat's sup 06:23, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
- Why not Sunday the 19th? I imagine it would be easier for some people to attend on a Sunday. · AndonicO Talk 17:14, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
- I will most likely be in the Bahamas on that day. How about we meet there? ;-) bd2412 T 18:55, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, I might not make it there. I can go to Jamaica though. ;) · AndonicO Talk 19:26, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
- I will most likely be in the Bahamas on that day. How about we meet there? ;-) bd2412 T 18:55, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
I requested a geonotice here; maybe someone else will tag along to go to the Bahamas. ;-) · AndonicO Talk 19:26, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
I say this Sauterday, what about it. I'm back in town. Jaranda wat's sup 17:27, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
- I can't make it until September 3rd or later. :S · AndonicO Talk 00:07, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

Hello badge
editHi, guys. I designed a WikiHelloBadge for the Nov 2007 NYC Meetup for anyone who wants to use it, so if people at other Meetups want to use it, feel free. The design is supposed to represent Wikipedians of every possible persuasion, at least symbolically. I made it a double image so that when you print it out, you can fold it in the middle and laminate it so that's it's double-sided (if you plan on hanging it instead of clipping it). I included spaces so that you can identify yourself by your real name, or your Wiki Username, or both, whichever you feel comfortable with. A high-res version of it is on its upload page. And if someone wants to use it at a Meetup in a location where a language other than English is spoken, feel free to modify the greeting into a different language! After all, it's in the public domain now, so all I ask is attribution! Cheers! Nightscream 17:08, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
2008 Meet-Up?
editOK... so I got an email saying that Miami 2 never happened in August... so uh... how about this one?
- Date: Saturday, January 19, 2008
- Place: TBD
- Time: 3:00 PM EST
- Date: Saturday, January 19, 2008
January should be far into the future enough that we could prepare a proper location... and January 19th should be Martin Luther King 3-day weekend, so as long as you have Monday off, you'll be OK. Any thoughts? Oh yeah I made a little box thing (ripped it off of the San Francisco meetup).
Personally, I'd prefer somewhere in Central Florida, so people from north Florida and south Florida would be traveling "equal"/similar distances to get to the meeting (that way we could potentially get more people coming). But I'm slightly biased on this since I'm IN Central Florida... lol. What do you guys think??

- Jameson, there have been two or three meetups in St. Pete, but that is too far for me for a day trip. After the first/last Miami meetup, the two of us that attended thought Ft. Lauderdale might be a better location. -- Donald Albury 11:45, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
- Hm... Ft. Lauderdale seems like a good idea I guess. I'll have to plan that 3 hour drive down then... :D I'm still open to location suggestions at this point... :D - Jameson L. Tai talk ♦ contribs 13:06, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
- Ft. Lauderdale sounds good to me. Now if only Jimbo would come... I'm sure starting a few rumors about his attendance would inspire a few people to come all the way down to our miserably hot state during what is typically called "winter" in the North. :P · AndonicO Talk 14:36, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

- Yeah, he probably wouldn't attend anyhow. We'll just have to have fun without him. So does anyone have any objections to the date? · AndonicO Talk 23:06, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

I've notified all the Florida-related wikiprojects. · AndonicO Talk 23:17, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
GREAT! Now, where in Fort Lauderdale? I won't be 21 until the 30th of January, so I hope you guys aren't meeting at a bar... lol. - Jameson L. Tai talk ♦ contribs 05:32, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
- Well, I hope not for your sake. ;) · AndonicO Talk 10:05, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
- Well what about The Knife, a buffet, in Hallandale Beach, I prefer the Doral area though, it's easier for me and to travel, off the Turnpike and the 4th would be a perfect day for me, several admins I talked to in IRC also agress with the date. As long as it's a weekend. This is a Secret account 04:31, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

- I'll be gone until New Years, then I have school again in the second week of January, I could come anyday but it would be harder on me because of college. This is a Secret account 18:46, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

- The 12th is pretty much the earliest I can do. School starts on the 7th and my flight was cancelled. Delta put me on the flight with me arriving in Melbourne International Airport at 8:16pm on Sunday.- Jameson L. Tai talk ♦ contribs 05:07, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
So... is this still on? And did Gmaxwell do the geonotice? · AndonicO Talk 00:39, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
- I've updated that little blue box to reflect the changes in dates/times to Saturday, January 12, 2008, 3:00pm eastern time at Bayside Marketplace somewhere. I've never been there, so someone in the area please let us know where exactly we'll be meeting up so we don't play hide and seek without knowing who we're seeking... lol. - Jameson L. - Anywhere but the Hard Rock Cafe or a bar is fine, as far as I'm concerned. · AndonicO Talk 01:19, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
I like the Hard Rock Cafe, bars are a concern for the underage, as for the geonotice I may have to poke Gmaxwell in IRC, he's been mostly gone from the project since the Majorly RFA insident. Secret account 20:33, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

- Bleh I couldn't get on IRC, issue with the internet server of FIU, maybe someone with IRC can. Secret account 21:07, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
- How expensive exactly? We could always meet at a Chinese buffet somewhere, instead of Bayside (I know a cheap--but still good--one). · AndonicO Talk 21:17, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
- I don't mind too much about the rock music...I won't be 21 until the end of the month... -_- but re the Chinese buffet... can someone Chinese vouch for the quality of the food? lol... perhaps my 2 weeks of vacationing in California has brought back my standards for quality Chinese food... hahaha nah it's fine. Just finalize what location you want it to be and sign that thing on the bottom! lol - Jameson L. Tai talk ♦ contribs 22:23, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
- Oh, right, I forget Florida Chinese food isn't good. :P Just to add more food to the pot... what about the "Seasons" salad bar at The Falls (heh, we can ask around for info on the history on the mall and make it an article, lol)? I've no problem with Bayside, as long as it's a good meeting place... and without rock music. · AndonicO Talk 22:43, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

I passed the same Boca cop car three times in different directions as I headed for a gas station...but I guess people over there didn't need gas or something...lol I couldn't find one until I hunted for about 20 minutes away from I-95... So Donald and Andonico, we didn't take pictures, but I'll post the scenary pics up instead on the meetup page if you want...lol - Jameson L. Tai talk ♦ contribs 00:54, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
