$300 incl GST  :| Orderinchaos 05:42, 27 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Forget that; I was thinking he might like some company over dinner. Hesperian 05:45, 27 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Whats the bet that no-one in the wiki heirarchy/ jimbo minder dept even looks at the wa project or its trappings before coming here - 1 round at the next meetup i make it on that ! SatuSuro 08:03, 27 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I reckon you'll be wrong - and 1st round on me if I'm mistaken. I'm clearing my diary for a dinner invite on the 24/4. —Moondyne 08:24, 27 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
I thinks we have a date range for the next meetup somewhere between 23-25 April, since he's in Adelaide on the 23rd and in Sydney on the 26 given the restrictions to aircraft in sydney his flight will probably be during the day on 25th. How about we send him an email with an invite to a meetup for late drinks on the 24th. Gnangarra 12:43, 27 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Oh hell that means I shout first round... do it! - maybe signed on behalf of the 1st meetup group - iand on behalf of all the rest ? SatuSuro 12:48, 27 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Sounds like a great idea to me. (Also given the 25th is Anzac Day there wouldn't be much else for him to do...) Orderinchaos 13:29, 27 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Um do you mean the Perth of the fictitious appelations of 'dullsville', and the old tourist promo of 'relax in a state of excitement' would be short of something to do on a public holiday. ?SatuSuro 13:36, 27 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
I've taken the plunge and left a message at User_talk:Jimbo_Wales#Perth April 24 Gnangarra 13:41, 27 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Good call Gnangarra, nice to see if Jimbo would be willing to meet up with the WA wikipedians. thewinchester 23:56, 27 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
I strongly recommend you also email your message to jwales (at) wikia (dot) com, as its likely he won't even see your message there. Jimbo's user talk page is generally only visited by trolls and upset people. The vast majority of messages on that page are handled by other Wikipedians on Jimbo's behalf. Hesperian 00:19, 28 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
I have now email an invitation as well. Gnangarra 04:20, 28 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Jimbo response

edit

I recieved a response from Jimbo last night about a meetup, only opportunity will be breakfast on the 24th. Gnangarra 01:59, 15 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Any indication where he is staying? That will have import of where the most relevant location to have the breakfast is - an issue already pursued by the Adelaide meetup SatuSuro 02:17, 15 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Regardless, I should be there. Poor guy, he gets breaky with the croweaters the day before. —Moondyne 02:54, 15 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

According to http://www.educationau.edu.au/jahia/Jahia/challenging his seminar is at the Burswood from 9:30 to 4:00pm 24/4. Its a fair guess he's staying there. —Moondyne 06:02, 15 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Burswood - domestic airport and get through the hoops - all in 25 minutes? I can hear the pA at the airport 'would passenger wales please board flight x now' I hope hes travelling light - maybe he has his own plane?  :) SatuSuro 06:11, 15 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Do we have any word yet if Jimbo is interested in attending? thewinchester 09:00, 15 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Gnangaras post top of this section - yes - breakfast only SatuSuro 09:02, 15 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Missed that, blind as a bat. thewinchester 12:51, 15 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Confirmed Jimbo accommodation is within the complex that includes the lecture venue. Gnangarra 02:23, 20 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Venue

edit

I suggested that we have a breakfast in Kings Park utilising the facilities near the Admin buildings. Are there any other suggestions as we should make definite arrangements by this sunday (25th march), that way booking can be made on Monday. Gnangarra 02:23, 20 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Also I'll organise getting Jimbo to/from the venue Gnangarra 02:26, 20 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Meetup 2

edit

To coincide with a visit to Perth by Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales, a breakfast with himself is being mooted.

Location

edit

Possible criteria be:

  • Somewhere near to hotel so Jimbo can get to his conference easily
  • Somewhere cheap but edible who want to go can..
  • A public wireless access point ?
  • Room enough for 10 people ?
  • Open by 07:00 am.
  • Not noisy (VIP for hearing challenged - after that noisy pub last time)

What if

edit

What about a BBQ breakfast in Kings Park there are under cover facilities near the admin buildings that would offer a great sunrise over the city and river. Would beat a cafe Gnangarra 06:22, 15 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've got no problems with the Kings Park breakfast, but it's then a matter of organising the food, drinks, and paper products for the event - and more importantly who is skilled enough and wishes to be the most holy custodian of the Barbecue (I don't believe there's an article for that). Failing that, what does everyone describe as 'cheap' around that time of the morning? If people don't feel like cooking, then the breakfast menu for the Botanical Cafe at Frasers Restaurant is reasonably priced for breakfast. Failing that, Bells Cafe at the Barrack Street jetty would be another possible idea. Both locations offer good views of the Swan River which would be a good backdrop for the morning. thewinchester 07:07, 21 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
http://www.frasersrestaurant.com.au/uploads/documents/food/Botanical%20Menu.pdf botanical cafe menu looks ok, a good compromose between the two options Gnangarra 02:32, 22 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Maybe Peruginos???????Nah Frasers sounds okFancyfootwork 08:08, 22 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Semblance of order

edit

To run smoothly we might need:

I'm happy to take care of various administrative duties. What's the best way for everyone to get their names & WP usernames to me? Can place a contact form on a private website if that suits everybody? thewinchester 06:54, 21 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Email via wikipedia would do it. Gnangarra 06:55, 21 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Also, for those uncomfortable with others knowing their real full names, what protocol should we adopt? (I don't have a problem with this personally, just raising a hypothetical) Orderinchaos 06:57, 21 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yes, emailing me via WP would be sensible. As for names, I was thinking as a minimum First Name and WP Username on the badge. Surnames optional? thewinchester 07:09, 21 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Attendance

edit

(removed as now redundant - see the relevant section in the main page.) Orderinchaos 06:22, 14 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I agree and will not be attending. petedavo 17:49, 14 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Should be noted that the youngest person who has confirmed, I believe, is either 18 or 19 years of age, looking at the list (I don't ask ages, but I know people's published circumstances so can rule the obvious out) - also we're meeting early in the morning at an odd location on a school day, as well, due to the circumstances by which it came about - so it's definitely not a problem for this meetup. Orderinchaos 21:49, 14 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Actually, some schools dont actually commence term 2 until Thursday the 26th (including AC - and many PSA schools). Although i would like to attend, i feel that the issue of minors (me technically being one) would detract from the event, and would make people feel uncomfortable, and hence i have chosen not to attend. How about next yr, ill be an adult.
I can't speak for others but I would have no particular issues with a 17-year-old attending if we know in advance (the issues are *somewhat* different to those of a year 7 or 8), and it's not as if you're unknown to the Western Australian Wikipedian community. Note that this is only my own view, however. Orderinchaos 17:57, 18 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Nah man, it would be innappropriate. I will not attend until i am legally an adult. Also i want to improve my standing in the community before i come along. Twenty Years 08:54, 20 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Access -- public transport

edit

Anyone need assistance getting to Kings park from the city please let me know, Gnangarra 15:04, 18 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Just so all know, the 37 bus leaves Perth at 6:35am (from Sherwood Court on St Georges Terrace stand R/S) and arrives near the terminus at 6:43am. This might be too early for some though - I'm not absolutely certain I'd get there on time for this bus. Orderinchaos 17:57, 18 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Wow - that grew quickly! And I'm starting to even see real names I know from the past. This should be quite a gathering! Orderinchaos 03:08, 23 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

UserBox

edit

Maybe we should comission a user box that says something like "I met Jimbo at the Perth wikimeetup April 24 2007" Gnangarra 03:31, 23 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

If you append that with "... and all I got was this crappy userbox!" then i'll be sticking that up straight away LOL. Thewinchester (talk) 04:48, 23 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
I met Jimbo for early breakfast at the WP:WA WikiMeetup... and all I got was this userbox

User:Gnangarra/Userbox/Perth Meetup 2 Here's a commerative userbox from the meeting, feel free to adjust. Once we're happy with the wording I'll adjust for JimboGnangarra 06:25, 24 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Execellent. That's already in my userpage userbox list. Thewinchester (talk) 06:51, 24 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
I made a slight adjustment to mine. User:Fred.e/Awards
I think that we can refer this as the early breakfast, as Jimbo said that this is the meeting at the earliest time of day, lol. Shinjiman 15:41, 24 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
done Gnangarra 00:03, 25 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Here's another:

This user has been lucky enough to meet Jimbo.
