Behavioral guideline tag

edit

Re: this edit summary]: I was being bold. I felt that the page needed a tag, and the behavioral guideline tag was the most appropriate (because that's exactly what the page is), so I added the tag. Graham87 04:40, 12 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

As there has been no response on this talk page for six days, I've re-added the tag. Graham87 03:43, 18 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
That's not how things work around here. You said you were bold, but did you actually read the page you linked? Check Wikipedia:Be bold#Wikipedia namespace. You can't appoint pages as policies or guidelines by "being bold", nor take a "tacit consensus" for it. Raise the topic at some public place, like the Village Pump or a RFC, and gather consensus for this. Then, and only then, it may be promoted.
By the way, I'm against it if you ask. A bot periodically cleans the sandbox, so a guideline on how to use it is really pointless, it sounds as instruction creep to me. There are already too many guidelines, and this one is certainly unneeded. Besides, people using the sandbox are new users, getting familiar with the interface, we shouldn't scare them by throwing too many rules at their face. If they want to insult their teacher rather than type "Hello world!", I say, let them be, the bot will clean it before anyone else notices. Cambalachero (talk) 13:15, 18 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
OK, I'll just drop it. I thought that my addition was just common sense, but obviously the lay of the land has changed a bit since I' started here. FWIW I agree that this page is rather heavy-handed in places. I didn't write it, but I felt that it needed more exposure. Perhaps it should just be merged with Wikipedia:About the Sandbox. Question

edit

Is it considered a personal attack if a user posts something on the sandbox that attacks another person in an another language? For example, I warned an IP after he put something like "arjun pagal hai" which basically means 'Arjun is Crazy' in hindi. Abhijay Talk?/Deeds 11:12, 9 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

I would think personal attacks of any language would be of no tolerance. 71.146.8.88 (talk) 04:24, 24 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

My sandbox rules

edit

The page says that some of the rules do not apply in your own personal sandbox. Could you please specify which ones? I put Template:Unblock on my sandbox and someone came along and put <nowiki>...</nowiki> tags around it. --UserJDalek 01:12, 6 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Related question - I got my sandbox tagged for speedy deletion because of "copyright violations", but I was copying a section from a Wiki article that I wanted to do a major edit on (and possibly get feedback before submitting it). Is it really a copyright violation for copying a wiki page? I thought that was the entire purpose of the sandbox. Nerfer (talk) 15:53, 30 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

@CamelCase: @Nerfer: Someone putting nowiki tags around your sandbox test? Vandalism. Someone tagging your sandbox for copyright violations when all text from Wikipedia is available under the CC-BY-SA license? Vandalism. Just make sure that no copyrighted images are in your sandbox and you are good. Ups and Downs () 01:07, 29 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Redirecting the sandbox

edit

I know it is inappropriate to redirect the sandbox, but can you redirect a sandbox to another sandbox (i.e. redirecting Template:X1 to Template:X2)? UpsandDowns1234 17:45, 26 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Removal of the sandbox header?

edit

Should it be "modification of the sandbox header" as it is possible to modify it using CSS? Can we put a <"span"> tag on the template so we can avoid this problem? UpsandDowns1234 (Talk to me) (My Contribs) 20:52, 17 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hoaxes in sandboxes?

edit

In my sandbox, I used infobox country for the fictional country of Kekistan. My sandbox was later deleted for being a hoax, due to WP:SCAM. Is there a consensus that having untrue content in sandboxes constitutes misuse?SpanishSnake (talk) 19:06, 6 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

WP:Beans

should we re-word the instructions about not posting offensive things there? --199.191.107.18 (talk) 15:07, 17 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
