Justus, sometimes referred to as Iustus, was the fourth Archbishop of Canterbury. Pope Gregory the Great sent Justus to England on a mission to Christianize the Anglo-Saxons, probably arriving with the second group of missionaries despatched in 601. Justus became the first Bishop of Rochester in 604 and signed a letter to the Irish bishops urging them to adopt the Roman method of calculating the date of Easter. He also attended a church council in Paris in 614. Following King Æthelberht of Kent's death in 616, Justus was forced to flee to Gaul but was reinstated in his diocese the following year. In 624, Justus became Archbishop of Canterbury, overseeing the despatch of missionaries to Northumbria. He died on 10 November, probably sometime between 627 and 631. After his death, he was revered as a saint and had a shrine in St Augustine's Abbey, Canterbury, where his remains were translated to in the 1090s (gravestone pictured). The Stockholm Bloodbath did not occur on November 10. It began on November 8 and ended on November 9, so the entry is wrong. /Ludde23 Talk Contrib 09:37, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
- Hello, Ludde23. I wish I had known about this earlier. Thanks for letting me know. I posted this event on [Wikipedia:Selected anniversaries/November 10] because I thought, after reading the article (and "http://members.tripod.com/Strv102r/stockholm_bloodbath.htm" in the external link section at the end), that the executions began after midnight of Nov. 9th (or, after 0:00 hours on Nov. 10th) and most of the executions took place during the following day (or, during daytime on Nov. 10th). I counted the days from Nov.7th (the evening when Christian called in the elders for a "meeting") onwards myself, but I do not have access to better references. (Googling was no help.) Did I mis-counted the days ? Please be encouraged to fix the dates in the Stockholm Bloodbath article. I would very much appreciate if you can help out with that. For 2007, I (or any admin) can move this anniversary to another day's template to go with the content of the article. Many thanks. --PFHLai 22:04, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
