I understand this essay presents a common viewpoint, and I appreciate that it has been written so there's an on-topic place to put my thoughts. I think the essay's argument applies equally to the words "support" and "oppose", yet I very rarely see people suggesting that we should not use these. When I use "strong/weak", as I often do, it's for the same reason that I use "support/oppose": so people can see at a glance what my position is i.e. to increase readability and ease of skimming. The contextual information of what I am arguing for speeds up processing when you read the justification. It should be that no discussion would be closed differently if all the "support" and "oppose" words in bold were deleted: a closer should be assessing the text.
