Rewrite

edit

If this is to be considered a project-space essay, shouldn’t it be rewritten away from using the first person? It still reads like a userspace subpage. —67.14.236.50 (talk) 23:43, 13 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Probably. I've taken a stab at generalizing and updating it substantively, and removing truly personal quirk and anecdote stuff. I've tried to capture the typical attitude of habitual self-refactoring editors as of 2017, and add practical advice (templates, etc.). May not be perfect, but surely an improvement. If I were to take another pass at it, I would probably rewrite it to stop using first person, and to instead address "options" and "flexibility". Rather than "I" (i.e., editors like the few authors of this page) having the following exact expectations, put it in terms of "don't assume", and provide the range of typical "liberal" attitudes toward refactoring. I don't want to go that route yet, without first seeing whether the updating and genericizing I've done so far is well-accepted, since a further overhaul would be a lot of work, and I don't want that time wasted if this page is treated proprietarily by someone who likes to revert.  — SMcCandlish ¢ >ʌⱷ҅ʌ<  06:59, 3 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Jtdirl, Tonsofpcs, Tuesday Teen, Coolhoot, Qaddosh, Jesse's Girl, Heebiejeebieclub, Vivafelis, CincinnatiWiki, Cymbaline, Nrcprm2026, WikipedianProlific, Abyssoft, Kaspazes, IronMaidenRocks, BaylorDad, Judicatus, Theb3s7, Mwilso24, Benjamin J Melville, BorisRecycler, Mwilso24, ElmerCat, Weirdpercent, Airbender3, and Xanerakoly: Pinging all editors who transclude Template:Thread mode (formerly Template:Disclaimer). PS: I have updated that template to now support custom thread-mode disclaimers, so if you like most of this page but violently disagree with one point, you can simply fork the essay to your user space and have it say precisely what you want. :-) Also thinking of doing a WP:Userbox version.  — SMcCandlish ¢ >ʌⱷ҅ʌ<  07:21, 3 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
