April Fools

@SandyGeorgia: Do you think it'd be inappropriate to run the joke as I proposed? Just checking you didn't just miss the date/text. {{u|Sdkb}}talk 08:05, 6 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

I missed the joke ... sorry! I was a huge fan of the April Fools TFA when it used to bring FA people together for good fun, but not everyone shared the sentiment, and I believe there were several RFCs where we don’t run jokes anymore. But you should put your proposal ar WP:TFAR ... that’s the place to seek approval rather than listing it here, since only the Coords schedule. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 14:24, 6 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

SandyGeorgia, the "recently featured" part of the joke was included in the TFAR proposal and seemed to have support. I think it'd be appreciated by readers, and the actual recently featured articles are only one click away via the bold "archive" button, so I'd like to see it run if possible. If we really care about each article getting three days in the "recently featured" list, we could have it display four articles instead of three for April 2–4, which would give the three articles that would've appeared on the 1st an extra day each (it wouldn't run onto two lines since the titles are short, and I doubt readers would notice). {{u|Sdkb}}talk 17:23, 14 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

I think you should take this to the main TFA page, or the main page, for discussion lest we end up with issues on the day of. Depriving the previous days' TFAs of their pageview is not something THOSE editors are likely to be aware of, based on the limited number of editors who participate at TFA/R. This should be more widely discussed to avoid problems on the day-- particularly considering how many of the old main page followers were long opposed to April Fools' jokes. I suggest we change "It stars Bill Murray (pictured)" to "It stars Bill Murray (pictured in 2018)", as the image looks nothing like Murray does in the film. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 20:45, 27 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Fine by me. The suggested image/caption is just what we used when this ran in February. Do we have any other good pictures of Murray to choose from? {{u|Sdkb}}talk 18:15, 29 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Unless someone adds on there are not any contemporary images of Murray available for free. Easier to just add 2018 to the caption. Darkwarriorblake / SEXY ACTION TALK PAGE! 21:45, 29 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

After seeing an ad for Amazon or Netflix or something for something that uses the same idea (Palm Springs (2020 film) I think), I decided to watch the original again today. Now I open Wikipedia and I notice Groundhog Day? Now I'm confused, was I remembered of the movie by the ad or was the suggestion made subconsciously by Wikipedia when I opened the home page earlier without paying attention? Maybe you guys already knew I was going to re-watch the movie. That's the only way this can be explained. Maybe the ad company knew it too. Who else is in on this loop? Does it reset at 6:00 AM UTC? If I'm not in the loop, what happens to me? — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 22:23, 1 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Ask me the same question the same time tomorrow :p {{u|Sdkb}}talk 22:35, 1 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
