Statements of fact vs. arguments

The sentence about "arguments for and against Reagan's Strategic Defense Initiative would not be out of place" misses the point that is being presented in this essay, because it deals (mainly) with people's opinions about facts and proposals on how they should change (or not change). The essay, however, should focus on the issue on how to treat differences about what the relevant facts actually are, with regard to a certain issue, e.g. flatness of the earth or feasibility of the Strategic Defense Initiative.  Cs32en Talk to me  18:16, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

Shape of the Earth

See this discussion. The Figure of the Earth does not simply describe it as an oblate spheroid. This is a factoid, and this article should use a better example.--Jack Upland (talk) 13:02, 3 March 2016 (UTC)

Actually, we can stick with the example. I've just amended this article to reflect what the Figure of the Earth actually says: a sphere is a "close approximation" to the shape of the Earth.--Jack Upland (talk) 01:37, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
