Wikipedia talk:WikiBrowse

Looks like a great tool, but...

edit

It's certainly not notable enough for inclusion in the mainspace. Please, someone userfy or projectify this--if no one contests this proposal in a few days, I'll move it to projectspace. AmiDaniel (talk) 10:27, 16 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

I tend to agree with AmiDaniel, while it is a useful tool of interest to editors of wikipedia, it makes no claim to its notability, so fails WP:SOFTWARE. Most of the tools for accessing wikipedia tend to exist in the Wikipedia: and User: name spaces, which seems a reasonable solution. --Salix alba (talk) 13:53, 19 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Does it support .xcf data?Geni 14:28, 26 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Looks familiar

edit

It look strangely familiar to a version of an encyclopedia from Microsoft that I've used before. Here are some comment on the program as of 24 February 2008

Interface
  • Lack of accessibility (lack of a text copying functions in some areas)
  • Some icons are hidden while maximized in a 800x600 screen
  • Would like a dark color scheme
  • Missing a history list
  • Extra mouse button and rocker gesture support
  • Scrolling shouldn't change the current search results since the focus stays in the Find box
Search
  • The WikiMedia search isn't very good
  • Maybe use using Google? It at least has spell checker.
  • Kinda miss the the side search pannel
  • Would be nice if the search & highlight was integrated in the search
Other
  • Would be nice to have a category explorer where I could transverse down the classical category system
  • Maybe include the Gutenberg Encyclopedia somehow
  • Doesn't include WP:WikiMiniAtlas (Although looking at it, its still quite a bit ways off from Encarta's atlas)

The software however doesn't seem to get updated much as the version currently available on their website dates back more than 5 month. — Dispenser 05:22, 24 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
