edit- Standardize on class Actinopterygii, not Osteichthyes (see Special:Whatlinkshere/Osteichthyes)
- Of Argentinidae:
- Expand Argentina silus -- Greater Argentine
- Argentina sphyraena -- Argentina (fish)
- Of Chimaera:
What does this mean: "Standardize on class Actinopterygii (not Osteichthyes): Chimaera"? Chimaera is not in either Actinopterygii or Osteichthyes. Koumz (talk) 22:10, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
- Categorise fish down to lowest relevant taxa (not by species though) according to continental region (or ocean)
- Using Actinopterygii as a guide, done as far down as Superorder Ostariophysi (only to order level as yet) (still doing)HappyVR 16:01, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
- Sarcopterygii not started.
- Expand on Barb (fish species) stub page dealing with a fish with barb in the common name
- Expand and wikify Ryukin and Goldfish
- Expand fishing industry
- Could someone who knows about Tuna please take a look at the discussion on Talk:Northern bluefin tuna
- Expand Ostariophysi.
- Expand Fish anatomy and Fish locomotion.
- Peer reviews:
- Create subfamiliy articles for Cichlidae. Cichlid is preparing for a featured article review and these subfamily articles would be helpful.

editEditing the Article on Redeye Tetra
editI would like to edit the article on Redeye tetra. Since I am quite new to Wikipedia, I have some questions:
- The talk page has a note that says "I am a specialist on Tetras and all this information is correct." Am I right that it should be removed?
- The reference that I plan to cite does not use the term "redeye tetra" but "yellow-banded tetra"; nevertheless, it refers to the same scientific name (Moenkhausia sanctaefilomenae) and the photo of the fish in the article and in the reference I am using look the same. Is it safe to assume that my reference is referring to the same fish?

- Hi, and welcome to the project! I've long been watching this project closely, but over the past few years it's pretty much gotten to where it's just me, so the project is borderline inactive. I think it is great to have someone new taking an interest, and I welcome you working on that page! That message on the talk page was just some troll, so I removed it. I've put the page on my watchlist, so I'll keep an eye on it and I'll fix any edit you make that might need fixing. But I'm sure what you do will be a welcome improvement. (Just remember that Wikipedia has a policy against how-to instructions, so we don't write about aquarium care in a how-to way; see WP:AQUAHOWTO for a workaround.)
- I checked, and from what I can see redeye tetra is the WP:COMMONNAME for the species, and yellow-banded tetra is a less common alternative name, but they are the same species. --Tryptofish (talk) 19:17, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you very much! That's very encouraging. I made edits to the article. I do not know if I did them properly because like I said I am rather new here. LaivineOrodrim (talk) 11:40, 16 April 2023 (UTC)
- Great! I made some further edits, which you can see. Feel free to ask me why I did any of those things. Also, because Yellow-banded tetra is now in bold font, I created a redirect for it. --Tryptofish (talk) 21:25, 16 April 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks again for the encouragement! I will look at articles on other species to see if I can edit them. LaivineOrodrim (talk) 08:06, 17 April 2023 (UTC)
- BTW, how do you put in the message templates, like the notices that an article needs further citations? LaivineOrodrim (talk) 08:08, 17 April 2023 (UTC)
- The way we put those messages in, is as templates, which are typed in the edit window using {{ }} brackets around the name of the template and any parameters for how it will be displayed. In this case I used the template called "More citations needed section", and if you go to Template:More citations needed section#Usage, you can see examples of how to type it in the edit window. There's a complete list of these kinds of templates, grouped by what you might want to use them for, at Wikipedia:Template index. --Tryptofish (talk) 18:33, 17 April 2023 (UTC)
