Scoring
editFWIW, I think this could be a good idea. AutomaticStrikeout (T • C • AAPT) 23:21, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
Next phase
editWell, we have suggestions for the 60 targeted articles for improvement. Does anyone have any suggested replacements or ones that might not be great ideas to improve for whatever reason (hard to find sources, etc.)? And what does everyone think of scoring? - On a semi-related note, Sports Illustrated's MLB Preview came out today. I imagine many of the editors involved here already get the magazine, but if not and you want some information, I can either photo-copy a page and email it to you or look to see if a player in question is mentioned. Thought I'd throw that out there. Go Phightins! 21:22, 28 March 2013 (UTC)
- Looking forward to diving into some articles. The choices look good to me, particularly for my Astros; they'll need all the help they can get this year, on WP and beyond. I don't have a strong opinion on scoring one way or the other. I think we can make significant improvements to many articles that should see increasing traffic throughout the season. Along the line of resources, I just got The Bill James Handbook 2013. I'm not sure if it's accessible online; it includes career stats, last year's league leaders and projections for 2013. I'm intrigued by the Hall of Fame Monitor section, organized by player birth year, which lists the players who are most likely on a career trajectory toward the HOF. I'd be glad to provide any info the book on a given player. EricEnfermero Howdy! 08:44, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- I am having difficulty finding any information on the pre-baseball career of Wei-Yin Chen. Not surprising, necessarily, as he is from Taiwan, but I still have yet to find anything. I emailed Orioles customer service to see if they had a media guide available online, to which I got a quick no. I'm at a loss. I doubt the Bill James Handbook would have anything on biographical information, but if anyone sees anything, I'd appreciate it. I also just got Lindy's Sports 2013 Baseball Preview for my birthday yesterday, so I can provide anything out of that if necessary as well. Go Phightins! 15:16, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- I got Chen in the later rounds of my fantasy draft today. As I follow him, I'll keep my eyes open for biographical info, especially early life stuff. EricEnfermero Howdy! 05:34, 31 March 2013 (UTC)
Recap
editWell, as June 15 has passed us, unfortunately it seems not a whole lot of work and/or collaboration has been done. With all the articles watchlisted, only a few have seen major edits, but that's OK ... I know everyone is very busy on Wikipedia right now. I guess now is the time to evaluate. Is this something we should do again, on a smaller scale? What should/needs to be improved? I would welcome discussion. Thanks. Go Phightins! 12:50, 19 June 2013 (UTC)
- I liked working on it, but I think that the number of players should be more limited, and if someone turns out to be a useless player (like Phillippe Aumont), they should be removed from the list. öBrambleberry of RiverClan 14:20, 19 June 2013 (UTC)
- I did think it was a good idea, and was disappointed at the lack of participation. If we do this again, I wonder if it might not be better to start the drive on, say, June 1 so that we have an idea which articles are going to be getting the hits. Chris Parmelee started the year in the starting lineup, but is now buried on the bench, so it might have been more worthwhile to pick Oswaldo Arcia or Ryan Pressly. Per Brambleberry, too many players on the list might also have been an issue. -Dewelar (talk) 15:57, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
- 60 players was unrealistic ... not a bad idea about starting later. Go Phightins! 16:04, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
- Maybe only one rookie from each team instead of two? öBrambleberry of RiverClan 16:07, 12 July 2013 (UTC)
