On the Cartoon Network topics template

I just created the template to unify both major Cartoon Network templates and include more CN-specific template sections; basically, it was just to reduce the number of templates while increasing the amount of relevant links between articles. If anyone has a problem with the current setup (it's big, I know, so I probably should've posted something up beforehand), please message me on my talk page, thanks. --Toussaint (talk) 21:31, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Better to do it here, it does concern the main project template you intend to create and it centralises it here instead of someone's talkpage. Anyway, I see it and whilst it is huge to the point of being almost redundant in place it's still great even though I reckon it'll create more issues than it plans to solve. treelo radda 22:19, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Merge characters Sections in Ben 10 articles

Ben 10 articles have all spin out in different character sections when they all have similar POV..

I suggested this in one of the articles but i think it's best to suggest it here. We should make separate articles for Ben, Gwen, Max (grandpa) and Kevin since I'm sure we will find notable sources for them. It would clean most of the Grey areas and will cover both Ben 10 and Ben 10: alien force Roles that the characters have had. Then possibly merge all separate character articles. because it makes no sense to have neutral, allies, and villains into separate.

of course...proper summarizing and re-editing first until all of this is possible.Bread Ninja (talk) 17:55, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

Hmm, the current character lists exist because originally it was one overlong list. OK, now it's three overlong lists but splitting out the mains into their own standalone articles might be inviting much more work for those involved given it means more eyes in more spots and a lot more useless cruft to cut out a few months down the line. If you can create well-sourced (and I do mean well-sourced, I've seen a lot of articles try and pass forum chatter and unreliable websites as kosher) articles in your namespace for Ben, Gwen and the others then I'll be a little more reassured it can work like you say. As for every character getting an article, that's something a subject focussed wiki should handle and not a subject diverse one. That'd be asking for complete chaos so I'd propose better guidelines for character inclusion because there's plenty of one-shots and minor characters which simply aren't notable. If you have any ideas, please share them. treelo radda 18:38, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
sorry i forgot to add "merge" in one of the sentences. IGN must have taken a review on some of these characters, and IGN is considered a reliable source. SO there's one. as for other two reliable sources i might have to check in other reviews or any reception given to the character. So the only ones i believe will be able to obtain notability are the ones mentioned (Max, Ben, Gwen, and Kevin, possibly Vilgaks).
First we summarize the characters sections of neutral, allies, and villains articles. Remove anything that's over detailed or just containing trivial information. Removing any characters that have only been shown once in the series. Once everything has been shortened, we will be able to merge Allies, Neutral, and villain character articles together but have separated sections so it wont look as big as before. (instead of Neutral, we should just say "other" when the merge happens, if it ever does happen)
Afterwards when we obtain notable sources for the chosen characters, we will be able to make separate articles. the character articles will explain each character and what role they had in Ben 10 series. SO Ben will have a large number, Gwen as well, Max and Kevin might not have much. Bread Ninja (talk) 19:09, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
Personally, I think you'll be lucky to eke out much of an article beyond Ben. Notability is one thing, being able to source a decent article is entirely another and this project has a Manual of Style which is very particular about character articles given the vast majority simply aren't notable enough in real world terms and get merged into the character list. This isn't specific to this project though, any character article you or anyone else creates really does have to stand alone separate from the series and establish reliably that they're notable in real world terms. Few actually stretch to that so I'd say be prepared to go through a lot of research in order to make this work.

Cutting down the character lists is probably the most simple task available, you will need better than "just shown once" as a yardstick given that'd still leave a few which aren't notable but did appear once. I have a rough rule of three non-trivial speaking roles before any notability is conferred towards a given character, I'd give for the Ben 10 universe closer to five appearances. Anything else like trimming or merging can be done pretty simply as long as people won't go apeshit and go on a revertwar should they come one day and find a list redirected into a condensed one. Remember to give decent prior warning on the talkpages (not forgetting tags on the lists themselves) and that silence is consensus though others may argue it isn't. Anyway, the whole separate article issue seems to be your main driving force behind this so I'd say to clean up first then consider what to do with spinning out characters to their own articles. treelo radda 20:02, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

I nominated the article for FL almost a week ago - so far, no responses at all. If anyone would like to comment or help out with future comments, it would be warmly appreciated. Peace, The Flash {talk} 01:26, 6 November 2009 (UTC)

Well, I'd like to help but it's just me these days around here and I've never assessed a FL so I don't know if I can be of much help to you. Yeah, I know what that sounds like but I will comment anyway because it's odd this FL nom has garnered nothing in response. Have you asked over at WP:US-TOON yet? There's more folk who can help there though like most other Wikiprojects which aren't hulking under their own weight it's a case of luck if anyone does or responds to what you ask in any meaningful way. treelo radda 09:16, 6 November 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the comments. Last I checked, the project seems pretty inactive — lots of outdated info from the project page alone — but I'll message them anyways. Cheers, The Flash {talk} 21:02, 6 November 2009 (UTC)

Pageview stats

After a recent request, I added WikiProject Cartoon Network to the list of projects to compile monthly pageview stats for. The data is the same used by http://stats.grok.se/en/ but the program is different, and includes the aggregate views from all redirects to each page. The stats are at Wikipedia:WikiProject Cartoon Network/Popular pages.

The page will be updated monthly with new data. The edits aren't marked as bot edits, so they will show up in watchlists. You can view more results, request a new project be added to the list, or request a configuration change for this project using the toolserver tool. If you have any comments or suggestions, please let me know. Thanks! Mr.Z-man 01:02, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

I am INTRESTED in this project for sure - Don't remove me as a member

Hey guys, i am really interested in this project. I didn't edited CN Pakistan's article because there is no update available yet. I already updated december cartoons and movies section and i still want to be a member of this project because i worked really hard in improving this article and i don't wanted to kicked out of here. So, please give me a little time so that i can edit new updates when they will be available. Thank you --♫♪Adyniz♪♫ 04:14, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

Hm, yknow that even without the project you can still work? If you're with the project, it generally means that everything within the scope of the project is up for editing by you and not just an article you've ended up in possession of through lack of interest from elsewhere. If your sole interest is contained within that single article then membership has no meaning for you, you can do the same work whether or not the project exists and right now, again, I am the project. It is virtually dead and whilst your interest is nice, it's not enough to maintain a dead horse of a project unless you want to expand what you work in by editing other articles relevant to the project and get involved in the running of it too. Still, we'll see what happens by next month. treelo radda 10:11, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
I edit that single article because i don't get any other CN as they are from other countries. I only get Cartoon Network Pakistan. So, now its clear that i won't edit any other CN article except CN Pakistan (as i mentioned my reason above). I think we have no other choice. Well, as i have no other choice then you can kick me from this project (I won't mind) :( --♫♪Adyniz♪♫ 13:27, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
Why won't you edit any other article besides the channel's article? Don't you watch the shows that air on it? Sure, you might only get that specific variant but there's all the articles on the programming which airs on CNP which you could edit too. To be totally fair to you, you're not doing anything for that article but adding scheduling information which is kinda part of WP:NOT as articles shouldn't be TV guides which is all that it is right now. I won't be taking you off the list unless you choose to do it yourself, I was clear about that because I'm only gauging interest in the project, not looking to see who I can remove if they're not pulling their weight. treelo radda 13:40, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
Okay fine. I will try to edit the toons which airs on cnp. --♫♪Adyniz♪♫ 17:16, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
Good but seriously, remove the times from your programming lists as they aren't appropriate. treelo radda 17:52, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
I will remove the timings. BTW, all the timings are perfectly appropriate. --♫♪Adyniz♪♫ 05:27, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
No, they really aren't because we're not here to tell people what times programming is going to be on at. If any other articles doing it also they're not appropriate either, discussion of that ends here as it's getting way off-topic for me.
Yeah, whatever. --♫♪Adyniz♪♫ 11:03, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

Man we went through some pretty tough battles with that whole ed, edd, n eddy movie thing! haha Since that ended im rarely on wiki but i still do edit so keep me a member because i am always on the lookout!Onepiece226 (talk) 23:21, 7 December 2009 (UTC)Onepiece226

...Yup. Again, I won't remove anyone yet as I'm trying to figure out who still wants in and no, just because you leave the project doesn't mean you can't edit anymore or your articles get deleted. Just want to know who cares about the project as an entity, not whatever it represents which to be fair isn't much. treelo radda 00:06, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

Re: WP:TOON rollcall

Apologies for my very late reply. I'm still interested in being a part of this project, though personal issues have had me away from here for quite a while (not much of a excuse I know). Hopefully my winter-break will give me time to catch up on how this project's system has changed and I can start making relevant contributions again. Driveus (talk) 03:50, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

Results of WP:TOON rollcall

Well, a few days late but better than never. Anyway during the monthlong period there was one new member, another which removed themselves and two who seem interested in keeping it moving along albeit slowly, everyone else said nothing. From this I can say this, 98% of the current membership aren't interested be that in Wikipedia as a whole or just WP:TOON. From that you'd figure a mothballing would be imminent but no, there is nothing I can do one way or another whether it's getting new members or dumping the whole project. So I'll do nothing and coast along as usual, the status quo might stink but it's something we've used for years so some part must be working much like a stopped clock being right twice a day. baa! radda 22:39, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

WP 1.0 bot announcement

This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Additional information is available at the WP 1.0 project homepage. — Carl (CBM · talk) 03:05, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

Unreferenced living people articles bot

User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects provides a list, updated daily, of unreferenced living people articles (BLPs) related to your project. There has been a lot of discussion recently about deleting these unreferenced articles, so it is important that these articles are referenced.

The unreferenced articles related to your project can be found at >>>Wikipedia:WikiProject Cartoon Network/Archive 6/Unreferenced BLPs<<<

If you do not want this wikiproject to participate, please add your project name to this list.

Thank you.

Update: Wikipedia:WikiProject Cartoon Network/Archive 6/Unreferenced BLPs has been created. This list, which is updated by User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects daily, will allow your wikiproject to quickly identify unreferenced living person articles.
There maybe no or few articles on this new Unreferenced BLPs page. To increase the overall number of articles in your project with another bot, you can sign up for User:Xenobot_Mk_V#Instructions.
If you have any questions or concerns, visit User talk:DASHBot/Wikiprojects. Okip 01:18, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

What's with all the article tagging? It's not a bad thing, a least I don't think it is. I've never seen a user take such interest in tagging articles like this user has.--ETLamborghini (talk) 15:27, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

ALERT: Watch for another user; Kinginformation. Does it make sense that a completely same feed is broadcast simultaneously across Russia and Bulgaria? -- JSH-alive talkcontmail 04:15, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

No, it only feeds in Bulgaria. JJ98 (talk) 06:39, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

Cartoon Network articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Cartoon Network articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

For the Wikipedia 1.0 editorial team, SelectionBot 22:13, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

Excellent, I hopefully that Cartoon Network, Dexter's Laboratory, The Powerpuff Girls, and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends articles have been selected for release. Next year, I hopefully that Adult Swim and Courage the Cowardly Dog will be selected for next release. JJ98 (Talk) 04:06, 29 September 2010 (UTC)
