I'm a fan of Lo Hartog van Banda's comic "Arman en Ilva." In The World Encyclopedia of Comics vol. 1, edited by Maurice Horn, there is an excellent article on this topic. Also, there is an image from the comic.

I would like to see this source cited by a wikipedia author.
