Surely a task force would be more appropriate?

edit

Just reading through WP:WikiProject, and I saw this:

"If your area fits neatly within an existing group with a larger scope (e.g., your favorite video game vs WP:WikiProject Video games), then please join that project, rather than starting yet another WikiProject.

  • If work on the subject requires so much discussion that it might overwhelm the larger, existing group, then your group can become a focused WP:Task force under that project. Task forces have all the benefits of regular projects, such as a dedicated talk page for discussion and article coordination, but many fewer administrative hassles.
  • It should go without saying that if your proposed project has a parent, you should discuss its potential creation on that parent project's talk page.
  • Many small, inactive WikiProjects were started before the task-force structure was formalized. Inactive groups with a limited topical scope should normally be turned into task forces of their "parent" WikiProject."

Any thoughts? Harrias talk 08:00, 6 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your inquiry. You may missed that the discussions were take more than a months ago. And this not an in-active wikiproject. It's active. But still to do some work. After those works the project will run like other active projects. Thanks. If you have any question, then please ask. Cheers.--Pratyya (Hello!) 09:30, 6 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Posts

edit

Now guys we have members. I think we should now discuss about the posts. Currently this project has three posts. Co-ordinator, Vice Co-ordinator and Founder. Generally founder doesn't hold that much power. Those two are the operator of this project. Now,

  • Co-ordinator will have the power to set a task of the month and will co-ordinate the project. Vice Co-ordinator will help the Co-ordinator.
  • If the post of co-ordinator is empty then Vice Co-ordinator will co-ordinate the project until another Co-ordinator is selected.
  • Founder will co-ordinate this project in the absence of Co-ordinator and Vice Co-ordinator. (As I'm doing this job now).

Guys comment here please. After this discussion or in this discussion I think we'll select Co-ordinator and Vice Co-ordiantor. Do you have any idea, how to select Co-ordinator and Vice Co-ordinator? Please share here.  --Pratyya (Hello!) 14:04, 1 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

  • In my opinion a member with considerable knowledge about cricket and relatively experienced with Wikipedia policies and rules should be the Vice - Coordinator and someone who is skilled in both should be made the coordinator. Now the reasons for saying this, the project is about cricket so here is a simple question -
What is a Golden Duck?

The man who is able to answer this question should made the VC(without looking up wiki or net).+ in cricket statistics is far mor important than writing skill though I would not say that it is not needed.

  • Hello Pratyya, thank you for your innovative idea. As for selecting Co-ordinator and Vice Co-ordinator, I think a vote may be taken from the members. But yes, knowledge about cricket is really very important. So, I hope there will be an active Co-ordinator andVice Co-ordinator with us who will work in course of time. Thank you.
And $oHƎM ❊ , the question was really nice! Thanks everyone. Sourov0000 (talk) 17:31, 1 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
Guys, anyone who knows about cricket can answer your question. Even I can. But whom you'll make the co-ordinator? Also makke sure one thing, the co-ordinator must save the project from being inactive. If anyone becomes co-ordinator and do nothing to the project then members will have the ability to take an action against him. Now question who'll become co-ordinator and vice co-ordinator? @Sourov0000: and @Sohambanerjee1998:?--Pratyya (Hello!) 13:20, 2 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
Pratyya your missing the point, I don't mean that the man who CAN answer the question SHOULD be made the VC but I want to make it a point that the man should know about cricket. Well at the current point of time the project has only 11 members and voting among them would be a bit difficult.
-----$oHƎM ❊  আড্ডা  14:46, 2 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
Well, to be frank, at present almost all the people of Bangladesh know about cricket. So, if the matter is just contribution and having the knowledge, I think most of the people of this project will be able to help. But the thing that Pratyya has said before is the fact of being active. I am not referring that only the Co-ordinator or Vice Co-ordinator will do all the works. Contribution of everyone is necessary for this project to run smoothly. But again, comes the question, who will be what! Well, I won't hide the fact that I have the intention and desire to be the Co-ordinator or at least Vice Co-ordinator. But I think it will be better if the other members of this project speak about their opinion. So, I am inviting everyone to speak about what they think. And Pratyya, you can decide who will be the Co-ordinator or Vice Co-ordinator. Thank you. Sourov0000 (talk) 17:33, 2 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
@Sourov0000: and @Pratyya Ghosh: Yeah, nice suggestion Sourov I think I would go with that too, Pratyya should choose the Coordinator and Vice-coordinator as he is the founder I guess or one could hold a vote.---$oHƎM ❊  আড্ডা  10:17, 3 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
No no no. @Sourov0000: and @Sohambanerjee1998:. I may be the founder. But I don't hold all the power. I like Soham's last suggestion. Voting. But who'll be the candidate? Also I've registered an official channel at freenode for our project project. it's #wikipedia-wikiproject-BPL connect. At last I suggest you members elect people for those two posts.--Pratyya (Hello!) 13:33, 3 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
@Sourov0000: and @Sohambanerjee1998: what are you thinking? Which is the best way?--Pratyya (Hello!) 13:20, 9 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
@Sourov0000: and @Pratyya Ghosh:Now when it all comes down to voting I would like to address a few issues
  • To whom should we give the vote NOT for whom should we cast our votes for i.e. who will be the host?
  • Where should we cast our votes?
  • When will the voting take place?
  • what are the basic qualities and time in wikipedia necessary for being the co-ordinator and VC?
  • What if there is a tie?
Regards ---$oHƎM ❊  আড্ডা  13:40, 9 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

@Pratyya Ghosh: and @Sohambanerjee1998:, first of all, we mustn't make things complicated for others as well as for ourselves. So, everything has to be done by following easier methods. I am not against vote. But in this current situation, there may be no other votes from other members of this project as we haven't heard from them at all. That's why I am suggesting the following measures:

  • Deciding a time period for taking votes.
  • Informing other members that a vote is taking place in here. A new section for voting may be opened. Pratyya can be the neutral person and perform the role of a judge.
  • Deciding a time period for taking votes. Will agree with Sohem in here.
  • Inviting other members because other members may want to be Co-ordinator or Vice Co-ordinator (They only know about the discussion, not the election)
  • In case of tie, Pratyya can take necessary steps or state his idea about the tie.
  • And we must act after deciding.

Thank you. Sourov0000 (talk) 09:41, 10 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Diversifying and new ideas

edit
The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
After all the discussion it's clear that everybody thinks something like wikify drive will be really useful for the project. So The Wikiproject Bangladesh Premier League is arranging an article improvement program.--Pratyya (Hello!) 15:53, 12 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hello everyone. I hope everyone is having a good time. But it seems there have not been that many recent activities to the WikiProject. Lot of pages of the project need upgrade. Many info of the articles of this project are not correct. Many pages are still in Stub condition and most of the articles don't have a good rating on the importance rating. As the new Vice Co-Ordinator of this project, I think this project needs some new activities. And for this, I am proposing some ideas which can be implemented to increase the activities of this WikiProject:

  • New users from Bangladesh can be invited to this Wiki Project. So, adding message to their Talk Page about the Project may have been really beneficial.
  • Inspiration and encouragement can be created among the existing members. For this, extra Barnstars can be created and for that, there will be different Milestones.

In this way, the users will be inspired to contribute to the project and thus we will have a smooth path to go ahead. I am asking the Co-ordinator of this project Pratyya to express his thought about this idea. Other members of this projects are also warmly welcomed to mention their different point of views about it. Thanks everyone.   Sourov0000 (talk) 13:40, 2 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

I suggest starting by Wikification drive to get the articles in better shape irrespective of their condition. Above all we should take small and single steps at a time and take it slow as this is new project, rushing things is never expected. At least thats my opinion if you'd ask me. Sohambanerjee1998 15:59, 2 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Soham for your invaluable suggestion. I also do agree with you about the time. Although slow and steady wins the race but it is not always the same. We should take small steps but the impact should be a lot greater. As you know, every year a new tournament of BPL takes place. And with every tournament, new players get increased. There are only few active members in this WikiProject. And if we start slowly, then I don't know, then there may be very little progress compared to the necessity. I do agree with the Wikification drive. I have few ideas. I am stating them. It will be know everyone's opinion about it.
Firstly: We can arrange a Wikification drive (as Soham has suggested). It's a great idea but I don't know how many editors will be potential enough to participate on the Wiki-drive. In this case, comes the thought of the new editors. Let us assume that all the editors of this project will inherit from areas speaking Bengali language. But in most of the cases, new editors (specially from Bangladesh) don't have a smooth start. And if they are to participate on this Wikification drive, their edits may get more harmful than helpful. I was thinking of increasing article's rating on the project quality scale and on the basis of the number of the articles of increased quality, the Barnstars would be awarded. (But I am uncertain about the number of participant in such kind of process)
Secondly: I was thinking, is it possible to award editors on the basis of their edit counts on the project? Although the article's quality may not get that much improved, we will get a lot of participation from the new editors. Everyone loves Barnstars.   So, if we can start a process (it may be for 6 months) where we will award editors on the basis of their total edit counts, then we certainly will get a lot of participation from new editors as well as the current members of the project. Besides, it will be lot easier for new editors. In the meantime, they can get used to the rules and regulations of Wikipedia. After this 1st 6 month, we can start a Wikification drive, where we will award users on the basis of the count of their total improved articles. If we follow such way, then there may be a lot of active members in this project.
Thirdly, at present, on this project, there is only one Barnstar. Which process we follow from the above, we do need to increase the number of Barnstar. We will set different Milestones and if users can achieve those Milestones, they will get Barnstars.
Fourthly, we can do the combination of the above three proposals. Thus, if users do edits and achieve milestones (for example, if any user does 200 edits on this project, he will get the first Barnstar which will be on the basis of edit counts), they will get awarded. On the same way, (if any user can improve the quality of articles (for example, we will award the first Barnstar of this criteria if any user can make 20 articles improved) we can award people on the basis of the improved article. These two process can run side by side on the same time.
Finally, there will be leaderboard. Leaderboard inspires users a lot and encourages them to make new edits. If we go with both of the ideas, then there will be two Leaderboards and on the basis of the 2 Leaderboards, there will be a final Leaderboard. This process can run for 1 Year. And the top 3 users of the Leaderboard will get 3 more Barnstars (Gold Barnstar of BPL, Platinum Barnstar of BPL and Diamond Barnstar of BPL). If we follow such way, then this project will get a lot of improved.
I hope I have made my points. But it will be really helpful to get the opinions of other members of this WikiProject. So, it will be an earnest request to everyone of this project to share their ideas and opinions. That's all for now. Thanks a lot. Sourov0000 (talk) 14:08, 8 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
Here I message now. My idea's slightly different that Sourov. I think
  • A wikification (anything you can call) drive will start from 7th of every 2 or 3 motnhs. (I said 7 cause I believe 7 is lucky  . Other than this most Wikiproject's drive starts from 1st of month. As our project is still small so it has a chance that users will not give it an importance)
  • A drive will be opened for 45 Days.
  • The scoring system will be a bit different than Wikify Drives. There are a lot of stub articles here, so if a user improves a stub and move it to Start then that user will get 10 points for improving that. If a user can improve an article to GA s/he'll get 100 points for sure and then comes how much level it had to cross. Like if a stub becomes GA then point will be

Stub --> Start =10, Start --> C =10, C --> B =10, B --> A = 10 and finally A --> GA = 10+100 (bonus 100) Total is 10+10+10+10+10+100 =150. And if a user can promote an article into FA or FL then s/he'll get 200 bonus. So from GA to FA/FL means 10+200=210.

  • I don't have any planning about the scores. But I think if a user can score at least 30 then s/he'll get a barnstar. We'll give everybody prizes. The first prize will be BPL Barnstar+ A Cup thingy. Second is BPL barnstar+Tireless Contributors barnstar. Third is only BPL Barnstar. And then it's scoring basis. I've thought. if a user can't score at least 200 then s/he'll not get the first prize. 150 is for second and 130 is for third. If a user becomes first by scoring 150 then he'll get only the BPL barnstar. Same for second and third. Now if a user scores 180+ then s/he'll get the BPL barnstar. Then the level will be: 150-170, 120-140, 90-110, 50-80 and 30-40. We'll give an ordinary certificate thing if a user score less than 30.
  • Next about the point system. Users will have a backlog/drive page where they'll post their articles and scoring. In everyday co-ordinator or V.Co-ordinator will check those pages and update the leaderboard.
  • I don't know what'll we do if a user takes a false way to get points. I ask you to decide this.

So this is my proposals. Now I ask you to comment here. Mdann52 I would want you to comment her please.

PS:- Forgot to say the main thing. I believe an IRC meeting will much helpful than this messaging. What do you think about this?--Pratyya (Hello!) 15:30, 8 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Pratyya Ghosh and Sourov0000, as you both know I am still in school therefore have my exams soon and have come out of wikibreak only for this project and studies. Now as you know I am a follower of Wikipedia:DGF, so barnstars don't mean a lot to me atleast, I have been a follower of this when my acts as a Anti-vandal went hugely unnoticed and underplayed, to be true there are few established editors attached with this project and new editors who will come attracted for barnstars with very-little to no-knowledge of WP:MOS, WP:VNE, adding on WP:UNSOURCED, WP:OR's not to mention edit-warring when confronted or in disagreement will be the cause tremendous of irritation and drain of energy of contributors. Those editors will be hungry for barnstars and no respect for improvement of the project! and its unknown to no one that greed here is fatal for new-born WP:PJ. Soham Banerjee 17:00, 8 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
I got a message and I think I have expressed my views already, if no one else does how can I discuss? Soham 12:18, 17 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
I can see the merits behind this idea, but I would encourage you to wait for the GA backlog to calm down first. As many take over a month to be created an example, it would have to be an indefinite (or very long) drive, or have barnstars given out retrospectively. In addition, you would need an independent reviewer to decide when stuff meets C/B class; I am willing to do this if needed. --Mdann52talk to me! 15:04, 17 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • Having worked on a good number of GAs...I personally think 2 B or even C class articles are better than a single GA....morever, with such competitions, people would be eager to nominate incomplete and ineligible articles leading to unnecessary waste of reviewers' time...so I endorse the above proposed wikification drive that would really help the project. Cheers, ƬheStrikeΣagle sorties 16:41, 17 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

All right. After watching all the comments I've seen that most of the users think that a wikify drive will be useful. So it's decided that a wikify drive will be organized. Now here's the main matter. What'll be the rule of that wikify drive? For how many time it should run? What'll be the point system? These questions are very important. If we have a strong answer for this questions our wikify drive will be successful for sure. Now if you share your thoughts it'll be very useful.   --Pratyya (Hello!) 07:35, 31 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

I think a one month duration should suffice. Point system? I suggest we follow the same as that of WikiProject Wikify! That would make the task simpler and avoid a mess. CHeers, ƬheStrikeΣagle sorties 14:01, 31 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
I also think something like WikiProject Wikify will be really good. If it is based on point, then we can set a parameter or milestone for the members and award them Barnstars according to their points. Everyone works for the betterment of Wikipedia. But giving Barnstar certainly inspires the members, specially the new ones.  . - Sourov0000 (talk) 14:15, 31 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

New Barnstar

edit
The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
Now it has been almost 6.5 months after this discussion started. I think the time has come to take a decision. After watching the comments I see 3 supports and 1 nominator. In our project we have 17 members but if we try to find that how many of them are active we'll find 10+ people active here at en wiki. But if we make the field more smaller and find active to the project we'll find just 6 were active at that time. So 3 supports from 5 (excluding the nominator) looks okay to me. So I think we got enough consensus to replace this star with the current one. So the result is Replace this new star created by Strike Eagle with the previous and current one. --Pratyya (Hello!) 13:14, 23 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

As our time is really short and our article improvement program's countdown has begin so I think we should move this badge to award page. Also one thing, we need to be clear about distributing the badge. Who should get it, the one who can't reach 15 article milestone but participated? I've seen this in wikify. @Soham, Sourov0000, and Strike Eagle:--Pratyya (Hello!) 13:59, 13 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

BPL Co-ordination Committee

edit

After October 13 Elections this current committee got the responsibility to co-ordinate this project. Before the election in an official IRC meeting it was decided that after every six months the previous committee will be expired and after a new election another committee will take the responsibility. But due to inactivity and some other reason this committee has fulfilled it's 8th in this June which is clearly more than six months. Anyway from now on this October 13 Election committee is over.

Now at this moment we have very few members active. So arranging a new election will not be a good idea. So in this period we'll arrange discussion an coordinator and vice coordinator will be elected by the project member's consensus. The discussion will be alive 7 days. To be a coordinator anyone needs at least 2 support votes difference and to be a vice coordinator anyone needs just one support vote difference. (This rule can be changed if project members think that this is not okay) --Pratyya (Hello!) 13:29, 23 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hello guys it was decided previously that the previous committee is expired. So here I'm requesting again for the coordinator post. In the period of last committee we didn't have much success due to inactivity and some other problems. But the biggest success we got is that we could arrange an article improvement program, though we didn't get the estimated success. But you need to start it first. Now I was the coordinator in previous committee and also the founder of this page. I think I'll be able to manage the responsibility again. Thank you.

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

edit

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

New Vice Coordinator of WikiProject Bangladesh Premier League

edit

Currently our project is a bit inactive due to some problems. But we are sure that we'll be able to recover those problems. Now straight to the point. The post of the vice coordinator of this project is still empty. At the time of election no one applied for that post so it is empty. Now I don't think it is a wise idea or decision to arrange an election to elect a vice coordinator. So as the founder and the current coordinator of this project I hereby declare Strike Eagle as the new vice coordinator of this project. WikiProject X is live!

edit

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

Inactive project – proposing merger

edit

It is clear that this project has become inactive and is even being defunct, especially as the future of the BPL so uncertain and much speculation about it. To be frank, the scope of this project being too narrow, a WikiProject should never have been an option. The sensible course is creating a project task force under auspices of WP:CRIC. This was recommended by User:Harrias and he being right then is even more so now. There is now having been created the Bangladesh cricket task force and it is my proposal that the task force must be superseding the WP:BPL and so a merger is best way forward. The task force has wide scope covering everything in the Category:Cricket in Bangladesh hierarchy including BPL. One of the main problems the task force has is indeed the paucity of BPL coverage, well illustrated by even cursory glancing at Template:Bangladesh Premier League. All WP BPL members are of course invited to join task force. I suggest we be wrapping up this project and working together on entire Bangladesh cricket coverage, not just on one competition with an uncertain future. Thank you. Regards, Naz | talk | contribs 09:47, 9 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

I'm actually dead against it. This project has become inactive. I know that. In fact I made it inactive so that we can make a jump start ASAP. Moreover the future of BPL is not uncertain and many thing can be done under this project, especially when the BPL 4 hits at the November'16 you'll find that the task force is jammed. Cause currently load of BPL related work is need to be done, e.g. BPL 3 related works. So better than removing it I would suggest help us to run this project. And don't forget many BPL related work has been done under this project. So I don't think the scope of this project is narrow, but with this project we can have a good amount of BPL related articles. Thanks. :) --Pratyya (Hello!) 13:25, 9 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Survey of WP:BPL

edit

Scope

edit

"So I don't think the scope of this project is narrow, but with this project we can have a good amount of BPL related articles".

WP:CRIC has direct interest in 38,151 articles, this being the number which have the CRIC project banner on the talk page and I did read somewhere that someone thought there might be hundreds more which should have the project banner and do not. Then there are all the redlinks within CRIC's scope, for example, see the CRIC to-do guide pointing to this list of redlinks.

Within WP:CRIC, there is now established the Bangladesh cricket task force. The scope of this is encompassing all articles within the hierarchy of the Cricket in Bangladesh category. That includes the BPL which is a small percentage of our scope. We therefore have interest in 1,154 articles though I am admitting that in 222 of these our interest is indirect because they are the biographies of foreign players who have participated in domestic competition. That is still leaving nearly a thousand in which our interest is direct and, again, we have many redlinks.

WP:BPL has a scope limited to a mere 350 articles, of which you have direct interest in only 40. Your interest in the biographies of all players, including Bangladeshis, is indirect because they are the prime responsibility of WP:CRIC. For example, Tamim Iqbal is not notable for his appearances in the BPL but for his exploits in international cricket and, secondly, the NCL. His article is about his whole career and, within that, the BPL is an occasional venture only.

It is following, therefore, the reality of the WP:BPL project is that its scope is excessively narrow to extent that it is a niche and nothing more. You have direct interest in 40 articles, the task force in over 900 and CRIC in nearly 40,000. Your scope is one per mille of the CRIC scope. CRIC is a huge project, to be sure, but by no means the biggest (try WP:FOOTY among the sports projects). Your scope is narrow, putting it mildly.

Achievements

edit

Here is in form of a summary by article of progress being achieved by WP:BPL. The articles I am listing are those in which you have direct interest and which are directly relevant to WP:BPL. The list is excluding all biographies, these not being your direct concern, you are only interested in one aspect of these articles.

article class comments
Bangladesh Premier League start up-to-date, could possibly be C-class except it is seriously lacking citations; as a "flagship" article it is disappointing
2015 Bangladesh Premier League player auction stub no introduction, a collection of names only that should really be AfD for WP:IINFO; tagged for multiple issues
2015 Bangladesh Premier League squads list this has been to AfD but we decided to change the title and keep it, it is still having multiple issues
Template:Bangladesh Premier League template a good design but the number of redlinks it is containing tell the story of WP:BPL
List of Bangladesh Premier League captains FL it was excellent when written, but now is out of date – where is 2015? I have nominated for FLRC
Match fixing in the Bangladesh Premier League stub unfulfilled potential as it is okay as it is going but should have been expanded and updated
List of statistics and records of Bangladesh Premier League list multiple issues, surely WP:IINFO if not being given attention
2012 Bangladesh Premier League start not bad, needs expansion
2012 Bangladesh Premier League Player auction start seems complete enough, little potential for further development and really should be merged into 2012 Bangladesh Premier League
2012 Bangladesh Premier League squads stub WP:IINFO again and should be merged into 2012 Bangladesh Premier League
2013 Bangladesh Premier League start no narrative, a short introduction and then a load of statistics
2013 Bangladesh Premier League player auction start same as the 2012 one
2013 Bangladesh Premier League squads list just a collection of lists with no information, merge into parent article
2012 Bangladesh Premier League start hardly any information at all, I would be expecting a comprehensive narrative by now
2013 Bangladesh Premier League start as for 2012
2015 Bangladesh Premier League start as for 2012
2016 Bangladesh Premier League stub this is at AfD for WP:TOOSOON, no one is knowing if there will be a 2016 edition
Barisal Bulls stub why only a stub? no information at all about 2013 or 2015, introduction had to be revised by me
Chittagong Vikings stub this article was a disgrace in blatant WP:COPYVIO and I have saved it from deletion
Dhaka Dynamites start I worked on this yesterday to improve it but still being a start with only high-level coverage
Duronto Rajshahi stub why only a stub?
Khulna Royal Bengals stub why only a stub?
Rangpur Riders stub why only a stub?
Sylhet Super Stars stub why only a stub?

Summary

edit

A WikiProject is an ongoing venture and CRIC is active 24/7. The only work done on WP:BPL recently has been by me setting up the task force and by other editors with a global remit like Lugnuts and GreenCricket. Tigerbill is active on non-BPL articles. The BPL project is inactive.

"In fact I made it inactive so that we can make a jump start ASAP". Sorry, but that is unrealistic. You cannot "jump start" a project, it is an ongoing activity. You are saying you will give the 2016 edition full attention, you have not given 2015 your attention and coverage of 2012 and 2013 is seriously lacking. Coverage means narrative as required by WP:MOS and WP:IINFO and all. You are trying to be justifying lots of (incomplete) statistical lists and tables as adequate coverage and that is not acceptable. Read WP:NOTSTATS.

You are saying "the task force will be jammed". I am not understanding you. The task force is an ongoing activity within CRIC and there will always be plenty to do expanding season reviews, tour reviews, biographies, histories, etc. with about a thousand articles requiring task force attention.

I have to be concluding that WP:BPL should be terminated and that all interested in Bangladeshi cricket are needing to work on the more important subjects like the international team and the NCL. Thank you. Regards, Naz | talk | contribs 07:44, 10 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

You took a long time to make this survey and thank you for it. But I think you could improve an article in the meantime. Anyway, (Direct + Indirect) Interest, both tare the interest of a WikiProject. Moreover you gave example of Tamim Iqbal. Obviously Tamim is an international player. But tell me why Wikiproject Indian Premier League has interest in Tamim Iqbal article? Because Tamim was a player of IPL 2013. Only for that season it has an interest in the WP:IPL. Now he has nothing to do with IPL. First of all he is an international player. So shall we remove WP:IPL from that talk page. Moreover WP:IPL is also slightly inactive from the end of 2016? Should we propose a removal of project and create a India Task Force subpage of WP:CRIC just because WP:CRIC has 40K article interests? So what you are telling direct interest/indirect interest, that doesn't actually is a problem.
Yes, that's true that this project a only one mile. But you can't ignore the contribution and notability of BPL in Bangladesh cricket. So this project is for the betterment of BPL related articles (direct+indirect) which will automatically make the betterment of Bangladesh Cricket related articles.
Now I congratulate your initiative of creating a Task Force to work for Bangladesh Cricket related articles but that doesn't mean a task force can just create the chance of removal of a WikiProject which has done a lot for the betterment of WP:BPL related articles. Just being inactive for 6 months doesn't mean it has gone inactive. So please try to help this project.
PS: Why are you stating WP:BPL as your. You are also a member of this project!! --Pratyya (Hello!) 13:59, 11 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
You think I could improve an article in the meantime? I suggest you study my contribs and I suggest that, during the last year or more, you should have been creating the missing articles and improving all the stubs and starts. After all, there are not many articles in the BPL project when you take out the biographies which, I am repeating, are not the direct interest of WP:BPL. I would also point out that to do the survey was taking me only an hour or two, there is not much to be reading. WP:IPL is interested in Tamim as he played in IPL and it is an indirect interest. WP:CRIC has the direct interest in Tamim's article. WP:BPL and WP:IPL having interest in only small parts of it, so indirect.
I do not ignore BPL and if you are studying my contribs you are seeing that I have been spending much time improving articles, templates and categories. I even saved one article from deletion because it was in blatant WP:COPYVIO. You are saying the WP:BPL has "done a lot for the betterment of WP:BPL related articles". With so few articles to be working on, no WP:BPL has not done a lot, my survey is proving that and there are redlinks too. These should all have been seeing development this year and little has been happening at all. If it is inactive for six months, it is inactive. CRIC is active 24/7. As BPL is part of Bangla cricket, it is within scope of task force and much has been done to improve it in last week or so during time task force is being in existence. This will continue. I am not holding my breath for any help from WP:BPL and I am no longer member of inactive project. Thank you. Regards, Naz | talk | contribs 16:18, 12 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Franchise/Team articles

edit

Hey. I've been looking through and the financial goings on after the second season of the BPL seemed to lead to a bunch of franchises being closed down entirely as far as I can see - so Dhaka Gladiators, for example. Just now we have that article redirecting to the current Dhaka Dynamites - the new franchise which replaced them. As far as I can tell (and I may be wrong entirely btw) the two are entirely separate entities - the former Gladiators franchise is separate entirely from the Dynamites.

If that's the case, wouldn't we be better off having two separate articles? They need to link to each other for sure, but they seem to be two totally separate things - and we would usually have separate articles about separate things? Thoughts anyone? Blue Square Thing (talk) 12:40, 25 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Blue Square Thing: you are absolutely right. I've seen that too. But frankly speaking I have nothing to do with it at this moment. I've a very much busy real life schedule and a very important real life priority. So even if I've seen them, I don't have the time to fix them. But you've pointed the right thing. Dhaka Gladiators and Dhaka Dynamites these two are completely different as well as their ownership. In fact the BPL1 and BPL2 were won by Dhaka Gladiators and not Dhaka Dynamites. So there's no chance, that Dhaka Gladiators should be redirected to Dhaka Dynamites. If you take this initiatives, I'll try to help as much as I can. :) --Pratyya (Hello!) 12:57, 26 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

A new newsletter directory is out!

edit

A new Newsletter directory has been created to replace the old, out-of-date one. If your WikiProject and its taskforces have newsletters (even inactive ones), or if you know of a missing newsletter (including from sister projects like WikiSpecies), please include it in the directory! The template can be a bit tricky, so if you need help, just post the newsletter on the template's talk page and someone will add it for you.

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

edit

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Change the design

edit

I am mentioning User:A Simple Human, User:Fade258 and User:Churot,

I have changed some of the structures of this page. Hence, I think that the Wikiproject design should resemble the BPL Logo which currently lacks I think. Therefore I also think the project page is too long for a viewer. So before going into fixing the main article spaces I think we should first redecorate the home and make it more attractive. I already changed the Membership page structure without any discussion (I hope you won't mind that), but before a mass re-decoration, I think I need consensus and ideas (even if I was the founder of this project). Thanks in advance.--PratyyaG · Talk 11:01, 19 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Pratyya Ghosh: I dont know why you included the inactive members without discussing. Some of them banned and will never come back. They dont need inclusion. Human (talk) 11:06, 19 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
@A Simple Human: Inactive, Semiactive all of them are part of the project. Sourov0000 (at number 10) was the Vice Coordinator once. Even though he's not active now, but once he coordinated the project. So Strike Eagle. Once I may retire. That doesn't mean I didn't found the project. So every member is important to the project. Yes, users may retire, maybe blocked (we can talk on this whether we should keep indefinitely blocked members in the list) but that doesn't wipe out the history. That's why those members are again added but in italic stated they are inactive. I think adding a key will make it more understandable. That the bold users are active, italic members are inactive and normals are semiactive. Finally, those who remove their name from the list shouldn't be added as they wish not to show this. But otherwise, anyone joining the project active-inactive has the right to remain in the list unless circumstances arise. I hope you understand.--PratyyaG · Talk 11:21, 19 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Project merge proposal

edit

Hello WP:Bangladesh Premier League members. During a discussion about creating task forces at the Cricket Project, it has been suggested to merge the various Twenty20 projects into the Cricket Project as task forces, inline with other projects which generally don't have separate WikiProjects for single events. The main benefits of this proposal will be standardising current BPL articles with other cricket articles and increased assistance from the Cricket Project, which has more active members and for which in the long-term a resource library is being constructed. Please leave your comments/views on this proposal below. StickyWicket (talk) 10:22, 8 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

About template title

Hi @Pratyya Ghosh:, @A Simple Human: and @ImSonyR9:. You are the most active users on this project apparently you are the highly designated in various post. Can I make a request you to change this template title name {{Template:User WikiProject Bangladesh Premier League}} to Template:User WikiProject Bangladesh Premier League/Member. Thank you ! Fade258 (talk) 02:15, 6 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Fade258: How are these two templates related? The second one is mentioning members. Human (talk) 02:24, 6 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
@A Simple Human:, I know that two template weren't related to each other but the content inside the template doesn't match to the title. Have a look on these templates {{Template:User WikiProject Bangladesh Premier League/co-ordinator}}, {{Template:User WikiProject Bangladesh Premier League/Founder}} and {{Template:User WikiProject Bangladesh Premier League/Vice co-ordinator}} and compare to this template {{Template:User WikiProject Bangladesh Premier League}}. User script to detect unreliable sources

edit

I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like

  • John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.)

and turns it into something like

It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.

The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.

Do note that this is not a script to be mindlessly used, and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at User:Headbomb/unreliable. Questions, comments and requests can be made at User talk:Headbomb/unreliable.

Project-independent quality assessments

edit

Quality assessments are used by Wikipedia editors to rate the quality of articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at Wikipedia:Content assessment, but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a |class= parameter to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.

No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.

However, if your project decides to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{WPBannerMeta}} a new |QUALITY_CRITERIA=custom parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present.
