Would like to participate - serious newbie

Hello --- I would like to participate in the WikiProject Education, but as I'm very much a Wikipedia Newbie, I humbly ask your patience and guidance in how to do so appropriately.

My primary interest is in the area of special education, learning disabilities, and related topics. I don't see this topic area mentioned in WikiProject Education, but it seems to me that it would be appropriately included here. Of course, it's possible that the topic has already been categorized elsewhere.

Is this the right place for special education and related topics?

Thank you.

Missing topics list

I've collected a short missing topics list about subjects related to education. I wonder if anyone could have a time to have a look at it to see if I've failed to find any equivalent articles - Skysmith 12:28, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

Evolutionary educational psychology

Hi. Would anyone care to rate the article, evolutionary educational psychology? EPM 18:38, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

Help needed on Special education - also, request for assessment of proper categorization

There is an ongoing debate on the Special education article that would benefit greatly from the input of knowledgeable editors. I've been trying to manage the disagreements between editors, but the subject matter is out of my area of expertise. References to reputable sources are especially needed. Also, I would like to bring up the possibility of re-categorizing Special education in the Education category, rather than the Alternative education category. In particular, the Alternative education article makes no mention of including special education and it is unclear how it could fit in. Nposs 03:16, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

James G. Carter

Hi education people. I know very little about the history of education but about a week ago I stumbled across a newly created article James G. Carter, a person I had never heard of. The article at the time consisted of a few sentences. I did a little research and have been able to add some references and a bit of information. Mr Carter seems to be a somewhat neglected figure in the history of education. Since I'm no expert in the field and not even a member of this project I'd like some help with the article if possible. At least a review and comments on my talk page would be welcome.

Thanks. - Dan D. Ric 21:22, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

Education in Bangladesh, please, help

I have started working on the article Education in Bangladesh. It was in an extremely bad shape. The last few edits were turning it into a motley hotchpotch of text, link and image for private university/English medium agenda-pushers. Even without that the article had little content. I have began by putting in an enormous amount of fresh text, and even more massive amount of resource links (Banglapedia, government sites and downloadable pdf links). Now the real work should begin. Would you lend a hand in this? I can't do it alone. Do you have anyone else in mind who might help? That person doesn't need to be Bangladeshi. My Article

Nuclear froggy 18:45, 29 March 2007 (UTC) I've created an article - F1 In Schools I came across your WikiProject, and if it's any help to you my article is education based. Are these the kind of articles you're looking for?

re: Teacher in role

This article needs the attention of someone who knows the subject. There was a lenghty 'how-to' section that I removed but the article seems to have been written by a non-native English speaker. I could do a basic cleanup but if someone here would look at it first I would appreciate it. If the subject is covered I will do the cleanup, just let me know. Thanks!--killing sparrows 05:46, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

Education in Bangladesh

Is it possible to have some collaborative effort applied to the article Education in Bangladesh? I have amassed a number of links that can be used as references, and put together a basic structure along with poorly written text. But, it needs a lot more. If anyone is interested the article page itself may be able to provide significant support for expansion and cleanup. All it needs is a little collaboration. Thanks. Project Tagging for Assessment

Hi - I have been working with others to assess school pages. There are several thousand now done. I mention that because the Education priject has several hundred unassessed pages ... most of which are schools. Seems crazy to have a sub-project to assess schools and then add them to your list too. Question: If a page has an Education template and a schools template then we can do one of three things

  • ignore it - that's what has been happening
  • fill it out with identical assessments (gives a wonderful feeling of "doing something" but ....)
  • delete the education template

I believe we need to do the latter. (I notice that most of the schools that have been in both lists are from Ohio so it may be possible to delete these quickly)Victuallers 13:33, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Made arbitrary decision being as no reply here. All schools do not have an EDucation template. Prepare to see the number of Education articles fall. Victuallers 17:37, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Naming conventions (schools) reformed

I've reformed Wikipedia:Naming conventions (schools). It's a slightly different proposal based on more recent discussions at Wikipedia:WikiProject Schools. This naming convention would not actually affect any of the WP Education articles, I believe, but input from the parent project would be appreciated. Miss Mondegreen talk  15:04, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

History of education

Could someone here take a look at this article? It's an important article. It's a complete mess. --Steven J. Anderson 21:34, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

Merging UK School Infoboxes

I've proposed reducing the number of infoboxes for British schools on the WikiProject Schools Talkpage. (chgallen 20:45, 1 June 2007 (UTC))

Testing conversation

There is an AfD and merger happening on Tests in the United States, List of standardized tests in the United States and List of admissions tests in the United States. FYI. - Freechild 18:09, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Academic grading in North America

This page is in horrible shape right now. I've added the project banner to the talk page, but am bringing it up here, because this article is very very bad. It has no references, and I doubt half of the information on the page. It seems to be a hodgepodge of every student's experience with grading, adding some obscure method every which way, and it's impossible to sort out what's credible. It'd be great if someone could find some statistics about how widely these scales are used. --YbborTalk 00:35, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

Group of editors looking for a home

Hi,

Several editors have been working on the Dyslexia page, and it has become clear that the article needs to be broken up into a series of articles. There are also many articles that feed into and branch off of the dyslexia topic.

I put out a proposal to create a child WikiProject for "dyslexia and related topics" at the WikiProject Council (see Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals#Dyslexia, related conditions and topics), and there are 6 people who have signed up officially as interested. There's also at least 3 others who have been working on the page periodically who might be willing to add their names when we actually have a project page up and ready to go.

Would WikiProject Education be willing to be the project parent of our group? I'm not sure what all this entails as I'm new to WikiProjects, but I think there is some initial setup required.

Please advise.

Thanks,

Echo

Left messages in places and found no answer.... Education can feel lonely sometimes. There is an active group in sub project "Schools" ... if you don't get an answer here then come and talk. Remember if there is no answer ... then the house is empty. And you can have a party! Victuallers 21:08, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

A lost Bot ?

It looks to me the our Bot has lost it place for maintaining the list of articles needing attention. There are currently two separate lists, one of which is probably out of date and should be deleted, but I do not know how to decide which is which, both begin with the heading:

— Do not add text below this point — followed by:
  • Cleanup needed (updated by bot)

Wikiproject School Years

Hi, I've just spotted the inactive Wikipedia:WikiProject School Years - thought you might like to assimilate it into this one. I can't see any objections if you want it.

Good luck, –MDCollins (talk) 01:59, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia:WikiProject Education/School naming task force

I have marked this page as historical as it is no longer active or maintained; it was created as part of WP:NC(S) which is currently a rejected guideline. Camaron1 | Chris 16:42, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

WP:NC(S)

I have re-started the proposal for a guideline on naming conventions for school articles. I would like your input at WT:NC(S). Camaron1 | Chris 17:10, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

Elementary School InfoBox

Why did you delete the Elementary School InfoBox? I have wrote an article about an elementary school that could use an infobox. --Nick4404 20:12, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Naming conventions (U.S. schools)

Following a discussion at WT:NC(S), a new proposal has been created for naming conventions applying purely to United States school articles, in a attempt to more easily gain consensus for adoption. Some input from the community at WT:NC(USS) would be great. Camaron1 | Chris 17:23, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

We are currently having a discussion on this proposed naming conventions guideline for United States schools at WT:NC(USS) to see where consensus and problems are, please feel free to participate. Camaron1 | Chris 18:14, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

Education Infobox

Has anyone created a school district infobox? There is a school district that needs one.

This is how I'd like it to go:

Infobox SchoolDistrict | name = {{{districtname}}} | image ={{{image.jpg}}} | motto = {{{motto}}} | established = {{{year_est}}} | type = {{{public_or_private}}} | superintendant = {{{superintendent}}} | county = {{{county}}} | state = {{{state}}} | country = {{{country}}} | schools ={{{number_of_schools}}} | typesofschools = {{{elementary_middle_etc}}} | students = {{{number_of_students}}} | membersonboard= {{{number_of_members}}} | colors = {{{colors}}} | homepage = {{{website}}}

I tried creating it, but it didn't work. Can someone help? --Kevin 17:55, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

Looks fairly good. You may want to consider some international terms when try to identify location such as
|local jurisdiction
|province
|subdivision
|region
|district
|Administrative unit [Amt (subnational entity)] another term for county
Note: these are in no specific order, just a list of terms used in other infobox templates to identify location. Dbiel (Talk) 19:51, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. How do I go about creating the infobox?--Kevin (talk) 03:49, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Coverage

Does WP:EDUCATION cover all schools in the world. I was thinking about adding all articles from WP:Education in Australia to this project, but wasnt sure if schools are in the projects scope. Thanks. Twenty Years 13:16, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Notice of List articles
