5k germany offshoot?

edit

@Gerda Arendt:, @Bermicourt: If I set up a 5000 German Challenge do you think it would be worth doing? Every 100 entries we'd "tip" the list into this one then. We can find a way to max output on this and get more people involved. Up to you, if you're happy just contributing German entries to this one we'll keep it as it is.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:16, 23 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Don't know, I guess I'll try to do what I did for the last month: one a day. Just added one ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:19, 23 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
I'm happy to keep plugging away steadily. It would be good if we could get a few more editors on board though. We can't be the only German-to-English translators. ☺ --Bermicourt (talk) 21:53, 23 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
Yes, at present I don't think there are enough editors to sustain an independent one, and it's more convenient to run here at present I think.♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:03, 23 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

The European Destubathon

edit

Tell me guys, if I was to design a European Destubathon like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, do all of the work in drawing up the contest and article lists, but allow multiple people to run it to make it easy to run together, rather than just me, would you be interested in seeing this happen for Europe? And would you like to some National Contests created and being run, such as for Germany, Italy, Denmark etc?♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:02, 15 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

I agree to a Great EuroDestubathon and to more regional Euro 1k or 5k drives as long as they garner enough support to be launched (I know I would participate). --Vami_IV✠ 15:30, 15 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Musical inspiration: museums

edit

Nice project you have here! If you'd like to be inspired by (I think) very nice subjects, please see the "List of music museums". Of all the museums that don't have an article in English, but are yet written in at least one other language, I have placed the wiki link after the red link. Please have a look there and see it for yourself   Have good luck here! Ymnes (talk) 17:55, 16 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Uralic language contest 2019

edit

I encourage you to participate on Uralic language contest 2019 and list English articles created or expanded on this contest in the 10,000 European Challenge! Plenty of articles missing! --Agusbou2015 (talk) 14:00, 8 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Czechoslovakia entry question

edit

Hello. I have written an article on J. Christopher Herold. He was born in Czechoslovakia, and I notice that this doesn't fall under the scope of the challenge. Would it still count as both czech republic and slovakia are in the scope? Thanks! --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 02:28, 19 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Nordic challenge

edit

In the list there are many articles which are in fact part of Nordic challenge. Should someone fix it? If yes, I can do it. Egeymi (talk) 18:59, 2 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

If people want to add articles from Nordic countries here, that seems fine, and 100% their choice. They could also add them to Nordic Challenge if they wanted to, but there's no need to move all the Nordic articles out of here. Especially as the Nordic countries are listed as in the scope of the European Challenge (Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge#Scope, unlike UK/Ireland, which isn't listed in the scope, as they have their own challenge and seemingly don't wish to be listed here). Joseph2302 (talk) 08:21, 4 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Egeymi I see from this that you don't have a consensus to remove articles, so stop doing it. You're the only person so far that thinks it's a good idea. Joseph2302 (talk) 09:02, 20 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Joseph2302 I read what you've written so far, why are you repeating yourself. Egeymi (talk) 09:03, 20 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
I agree with Joseph2302. If you want to add articles to the Nordic challenge, be my guest. But moving them en bloc there at this point would create more confusion and not really be a solution to any perceptible problem. Yakikaki (talk) 09:05, 20 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Is Turkey part of Europe or Asia?

edit

I realise these challenges have been going for a while, but shouldn't Turkey be included in the Asian one and not here? Both challenges mention Turkey, but the European map here excludes Turkey while the Asian map there includes the country. Also the main Turkey article says that most of the country is in Asia, with just a "small portion" (East Thrace) in Europe? Or have I missed something? (Meanwhile well done to editors who've already completed the Turkey 1,000 Challenge!) Bermicourt (talk) 16:21, 17 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

I've always considered it to be Europe, but I can see in some ways how it can be seen as more Middle Eastern in atmosphere than Europe. It depends on what our Turkish contributors think! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:14, 17 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Surely it depends on the general definition of Europe and Turkey which here on Wikipedia should be based on WP:OR? It seems odd that reliable sources classify Turkey as part of Asia and Wikipedia has followed that, except for this challenge. Just seems inconsistent, that's all. Bermicourt (talk) 18:43, 17 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Britannica says "lying partly in Asia and partly in Europe". But also says it's nearly all in Asia. I can move it, CeeGee and Egeymi any thoughts? I just remember looking at atlases as a kid and they always had Turkey in Europe, so that's why I think of it still as Europe! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:34, 22 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
One solution may be to include articles somehow related to the European part of Turkey in this project? One could argue the same for Russia. Yakikaki (talk) 18:34, 22 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
If the Turkish editors are happy contributing to Europe let's leave it at that. They do a lot of good work! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:07, 23 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Agree with this. Geographically, most of Turkey is Asian, but it has a long history of cultural and political connections to Europe. It's also still an EU candidate nation. I don't see Turkey's presence in this project as an issue. —Carter (Tcr25) (talk) 12:41, 23 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
