UK cheese template

I just added {{British cheeses}} to this project and to all relevant cheese articles in the United Kingdom. I have a question. I have only added unique cheese types but have steered clear of branded cheeses such as Cathedral City Cheddar. I think that is the right thing to do. What I am unsure of is whether to include unique brands such as Huntsman cheese, which is a combination of two cheeses sold under a brand name, or Applewood cheese which is a variation of Cheddar, but is not branded. Coordinators' working group

Misreading the MoS - Parentheses in article names

I note that that this taskforce's page states that where article names may be ambiguous the "Manual of Style method is to append "cheese", in parenthesis, to the article name (eg. Pont-l'Évêque (cheese)‎, from the French town of Pont-l'Évêque)". This isn't true. The MoS actually states that the use of parentheses is the "most common" method of disambiguating pages with exactly the same common name, not that it is mandatory or actually the best way. This group's use of parentheses actually contradicts the guidelines at WP:COMMONNAME. "XXX (cheese)" is not the common name for any cheese. For most, simply appending "cheese" after the district or type name is a much better method and produces a neutral, descriptive name that is far more logical and intuitive (most people will put "XXX cheese" into the search box, after all, while I'm fairly confident that none will type "XXX (cheese)"). This follows the common and sensible practice adopted for most other foodstuffs, such as Cumberland sausage and steak and kidney pie. I propose removing this misleading guideline from the taskforce page and slowly making the transition to more intuitive article names as people have time to fix redirects. I second this, some cheeses have the name "cheese" or equivalent always attached to them. Ie: Oaxaca Cheese. It is Oaxaca Cheese in English and the Spanish equivalent (the language of the country it originates from). This seriously needs to be reconsidered as it confuses the commonly known name with the name given to it by a small taskforce in the name of standarization. For example, Italian sausage wouldn't be retitled Italian (sausage), Superman -> Super (man), Cuban espresso -> Cuban (espresso) and Coca-cola -> Coca (cola)/Coca-cola (cola). Its part of the name of the foodstuff, not just a description. Anyhow, If this is not addressed, I plan to bring it up at ANI. --nsaum75 ^¡שיחת! 06:36, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

Case of cheese name within body of article

Should a cheese's name always be used in upper case in its article? I contend that it should, so Cheddar cheese (or Brie, or Camambert) is always referred to as "Cheddar" within the body of the article and is not reduced to lower case if not at the start of a sentence. It is a proper name for a product and should always be in upper case. Do the members of this taskforce concur? --Simple Bob (talk) 22:49, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

Ark of Taste

I've added a list of about 800 foods, including many cheeses, to the Ark of Taste article. Ark of Taste is a catalogue of endangered foods from Slow Food International. Many of the foods listed are red linked. Some just need to be disambiguated, but others could use articles if anyone feels up to creating them. The lists on the article can be sorted and cheeses are found under cheeses and dairy products. There's a category for the foods as well at Category:Ark of Taste foods. Quite a few of the red links exist despite there being articles in existence because the wrong link is used e.g. Gloucester Cheese instead of Gloucester cheese. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you?
