Declan Darcy

the infobox on Declan Darcy was broken, so I commented it out.

Can anyone fix it? --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 16:28, 11 March 2018 (UTC)

Template:Infobox GAA club

I have tweaked {{Infobox GAA club}}'s handling of foundation dates for club:

  1. the value of the founded= parameter must be either a decade (e.g. founded=1940s) or a year (e.g. founded=1889). Any other format generates an error message.
  2. a valid founded= parameter is now used to populate a subcat of Category:Gaelic Athletic Association clubs by decade of establishment, in addition to the previous YYYY-in-Gaelic-games and sports-clubs-established-in-YYYY categories
  3. All categories are suppressed unless the page is in mainspace
  4. I have added two tracking categories
Category:Infobox GAA club with no value for founded (191 pages)
Articles using {{Infobox GAA club}} without any value for the "founded" parameter
Category:Infobox GAA club with invalid value for founded (0 pages)
Articles using {{Infobox GAA club}} with an invalid value for the "founded" parameter (e.g. (June 1925). It must be either a decade (e.g. 1830s) or a year (e.g. 1889)

Hope this helps. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 21:42, 19 March 2018 (UTC)

RfC

An RfC has been opened that may be of interest to members of this WikiProject. Please see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Village_pump_(policy)#RfC:_Specifying_the_code_of_football_at_first_reference_in_team_articles. --Trovatore (talk) 20:32, 11 April 2018 (UTC)

Moved to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Village_pump_(policy)#Specifying_the_code_of_football_at_first_reference_in_team_articles. Apparently it's "not an RFC"; I haven't followed up the link to find out why it's not. --Trovatore (talk) 20:43, 11 April 2018 (UTC)

Please can you help fix a category navigation problem?

I have devised a way of making it easier to navigate between Irish by-county categories: Wikipedia:WikiProject Ireland/CatNavProposal

However, before rolling it out across ~2,500 category pages, I need to know:

  1. Is there a consensus to do this?
  2. Which options do you prefer?
  3. What about Northern Ireland?

See Wikipedia:WikiProject Ireland/CatNavProposal for an explanation of the problem and my proposed solution, and please leave your feedback at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Ireland/CatNavProposal.

Input from WP:GAA members would be particularly valuable wrt to the GAA counties. I have devised a way to adapt the proposed template for use with GAA counties, but am unsure which (if any) overseas counties to include. See the note at WT:IECATNAVP#GAA_counties.

I think it will take about twenty minutes to assess the proposal. Thanks. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 19:33, 15 April 2018 (UTC)

WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject

The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.

Portals are being redesigned.

The new design features are being applied to existing portals.

At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.

The discussion about this can be found here.

Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.

Background

On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.

There's an article in the current edition of the Signpost interviewing project members about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.

So far, 84 editors have joined.

If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.

If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.

Thank you.    — The Transhumanist   07:39, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

All-Ireland Senior Club Camogie Championship 1976 redlinks to Creggan GAA, and bluelinks to the DAB page Creggan. I can't identify which Creggan that is. I've posted a couple of notes on the Talk Page. Can any expert here help solve the puzzle? Thanks in advance. Narky Blert (talk) 13:25, 9 June 2018 (UTC)

Manager or bainisteoir

There is a discussion thread open here which would, perhaps, have ideally involved other contributors from this WikiProject. Prior to its apparent application across all articles within the scope of this WikiProject. Inputs welcome now however. Guliolopez (talk) 01:44, 6 September 2018 (UTC)

Gaelic Athletic Association clubs

I just noticed that there is no article Gaelic Athletic Association club, or any of its permutations.

I just created the title as a redirect to Lists of Gaelic games clubs, and made similar redirects for GAA club, GAA clubs, Gaelic Athletic Association clubs.

It strikes me that a substantive article could be written on this topic, covering e.g.

  • GAA rules are founding and running such clubs
  • Club management
  • Club funding --what sources of funds? What controls apply?
  • How many GAA clubs are there, and where?
  • Difft types of club (how many sports played etc)
  • Ownership of grounds
  • When were clubs were created? e.g. periods when many were created
  • Longevity of clubs: how many have folded, and why?
  • Club mergers -- how and why? Rules on mergers?
  • Club premises -- some have bars and other social facilities. Any rules on hat, or stats on how many have such things?

Just an idea. I don't have enough knowledge myself to write such an article without a lot of research, but maybe a better-informed editor would like to give it a go. @Gnevin and CorkMan: could either of you be volunteered?  --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 00:48, 3 December 2018 (UTC)
