Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Idaho/Physical geography

Hi all - looks like I'm the first on to post. I've been updating climate info throughout the Western US, using the Western Regional Climate Center as a resource. I'll be adding weatherboxes and Köppen climate classifications to locations in Idaho over the coming weeks. Are there any particular ID-specific climate resources that you could recommend? Each state has its own resources and it'd be great to draw on those to add more info, beyond what's available on the WRCC's page. Redtitan (talk) 05:39, 27 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Idaho regions stubs

edit

Hi,

The Panhandle article needs to be changed and North Idaho needs to have a separate page rather than redirecting to the Panhandle. They are not the same thing. "The Panhandle of Idaho" includes two distinct regions, North Central and North Idaho. North Idaho is the area above North Central, not the entire panhandle. North Central is the area south of the five northern counties. North Central already has a page, but North Idaho does not. GoNorthwest.com is a statewide tourism site and has a map with an accurate breakdown of regions. Visitnorthidaho.com is a tourism site about North Idaho and includes only the 5 northern counties (the ones above North Central Idaho).

The Idaho Panhandle page should read:

The Idaho Panhandle is a region in the U.S. state of Idaho encompassing the state's 10 northernmost counties. It is divided into two smaller regions, North Idaho which includes Benewah, Bonner, Boundary, Kootenai, and Shoshone counties and North Central Idaho which includes Clearwater, Idaho, Latah, Lewis, and Nez Perce counties.

The North Idaho page should be modeled after the pages for North Central, Central and Southwest. The regional divides of Idaho should be based on how those within Idaho categorize themselves, not the terms that are used incorrectly by people from outside the state. North Central has a distinct article linked from the Panhandle article--the North half of the Panhandle should be equally recognized. I live in North Idaho which is IN the Panhandle of Idaho. The Salmon River is at the bottom of the Panhandle, but it is not in North Idaho.

In addition, some of the other regions from gonorthwest.com are also not listed independently. They also need to have pages dedicated to them to correctly classify Idaho's regions.
