First annual Tree of Life Decemberween contest

edit

After all the fun with the Spooky Species Contest last month, there's a new contest for the (Northern hemisphere's) Winter holidays at Wikipedia:WikiProject Tree of Life/Contest. It's not just Christmas, but anything festive from December-ish. Feel free to add some ideas to the Festive taxa list and enter early and often. --Nessie (talk) 18:03, 12 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Pollination

edit

Anyone know the term for and something about 'wasp pollination'. For the article zoophily, although come to think of it, the entomophily article is missing the terminology found at zoophily. Leo Breman (talk) 22:01, 21 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hmmm. And melittophily apparently leads to pollination syndromes. I'm not sure about that -there is mostly text on the form of flowers there, but this is not much either: Zoophily#Bee pollination (melittophily), and there's not much specific at all at entomophily either. Guinea Paper Wasp name origin

edit

I'm wondering if anyone here might know the origins of the common name for Polistes exclamans or be able to point me in a direction where I might find that. I'm in the process of working through the citations on the page but many of the authors of the works have since passed. Thanks, Norm Shea (talk) 16:10, 26 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Article in desperate need

edit

The Xeris genus article does not conform to standard insect genus article standards and may need to be redone. Legendarycool (talk) 10:34, 2 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

I think this would be better as it fits with the standard format for genus pages. You lose some information on the origin of species names but that's unnecessary for the genus page in my opinion. I also removed some of the images. Pothos144 (talk) 19:34, 3 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
I feel like pages for most of this genus’s species probably need to be made at some point as there’s ample information on them. On the proposal you made I think it works very well. Legendarycool (talk) 01:38, 4 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
