Ray of Light GA Sweeps: On Hold

I have reviewed Ray of Light for GA Sweeps to determine if it still qualifies as a Good Article. In reviewing the article I have found several issues, which I have detailed here. Since the article falls under the scope of this project, I figured you would be interested in contributing to further improve the article. Please comment there to help the article maintain its GA status. If you have any questions, let me know on my talk page and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. --Happy editing! Hello to all the participants. As all of you must be aware that Billboard recently updated their website, resulting in massive change in their URLs and revamping. Hence many of the Billboard links used in the Madonna articles are dead now. So I ask all the editors involved to help out as much as possible by replacing the dead links with the correct ones from Billboard. You can use the Checklink tool, open the link, give the article name and click on search. It will display which are the dead links in the Madonna article. Now go to Billboard and search for the topic. It will come up. Just replace it in the article. For some old charts like Hot Dance Airplay and Hot Singles Sales, they have practically disappeared from the Billboard site. Hence for them we need to use the google books. From there we can get the Billboard magazines and link them, hence that will work fine. Please, I request everybody's help on this matter. --Legolas (talk2me) 11:52, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

The English Roses

Hello, I'm new in the project and want to work first on the children's books. Especially The English Roses article, which is by now more of a list. But for this we have List of books by Madonna.

  • So should I re-write/format the table into plain text or should the table be kept in the article but added with text information?
  • I'm thinking of adding information about:
    • reception,
    • audio and braille books,
    • size/format of the paper books,
    • cover pictures,
    • ER website/membership passes which come with the books.
    • Any more ideas what is also missing?

--Bisco (talk) 05:09, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

Its good to see you taking the initiative like this. All these days i thought that I was teh one doing the project myself :( Well for the English Roses, if you have information about the background, development of story, inspiration then you can go ahead. you also need the others as you mention above. The list should be kept but expanded as you say. --Legolas (talk2me) 05:23, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
Would be good if I find something about the background. Must do some research. Do you know if there is something about the children's books in any of the unofficial biographies (if these bios qualify as reliable source but I think I've seen them in some references)? I didn't bother to buy them until now.
Do you think all the information should be in the list or rather keep the list simple (e.g. without synopsis) and write small sections on each book? I think sections would be better and more appropriate for an encyclopedia but it will be hard to find enough to write about without being boring ^^ because the article doesn't cover just one book but a series, so it could get a little repetitive . I'll try to find some good article on a book series for inspiration :o) --Bisco (talk) 17:23, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

I believe the subsequent releases on The English Roses didnot receive any third party notability at all hence it is better if we club all of them together to make a single article ala Septimus Heap. This one is a GA and we can take points from it. --Legolas (talk2me) 04:14, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

Portal ??

Was just passing by as i do with WikiProjects ..."Its good to see you taking the initiative like this. All these days i thought that I was teh one doing the project myself"

Well your in luck...I make portals and fast!!!....I have started to redo 'ALL the music portals and make--> Portals for Projects to get members... So I can do this all myself...what you can help with is color selections and the FA or GA articles you would like to see there??? AND like the portals above I will make a section just for this wikiproject...You would be surprised how many people never see Wikiprojets ...anyways let me know..I am stating NOW!!...and usually pick the colors from musicians Official web page!!!

) Buzzzsherman (talk) 04:35, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
UPDATE '   Done you now have a portal...There is 3 selections (puge does not always work keep purging to see all 3)

If color is a problem pls let me know or you need some other info posted!!! I have listed it were it should be posted for you --> Wikipedia:Portal/Directory and ---> Portal:Contents/Portals/Culture and the arts and Template:Madonna songs and Template:WikiProject Madonna......
Template = Madonna Madonna
.....Have fun!!!!!!!!!!Buzzzsherman (talk) 07:01, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

Hey, hey - well done :o) Though it took me a day to get used to the new project page -.-* Portal is awesome, I think I'm gonna use it as start page ^^ I'm not sure if it should be Portal: Madonna (Entertainer) - it would go with the main article and the template WikimediaForPortals would work better (e.g. now the commons-link lands on disambig page). --Bisco (talk) 16:13, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
was thinking the same thing after i named the portal..we can get it moved ,,i could ask the page mover guys to doit...Or i can recode the Wikimedia stuff at the bottom to link to Madonna (Entertainer)...All up to you just tell me what you wish !!....:)..Buzzzsherman (talk) 20:17, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
A move would be better.
In the first topics navbox there are some links that don't show up
group12 = Main lists |list12 =nowrap beginAlbums Singles Videos Unreleased songs Tours Films Books Awardsnowrap end
In the original Madonna template they are at the top. Greetings --Bisco (talk) 03:58, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
I think its better if we have the portal as Madonna (entertainer). Easier for others to find it. And congrats guys for the amazing job! --Legolas (talk2me) 04:11, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
As you wish see --->Portal talk:Madonna...and Wikipedia:Requested moves#Current discussions....Plus-->  Donegroup12 = Main lists |list12 =Albums · Singles · Videos · Unreleased songs · Tours · Films · Books · Awards fixed you guys ok with it being first on the list???............... Buzzzsherman (talk) 19:29, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
I think its fine, although I believe awards should come before the unreleased songs. Wonderful work. --Legolas (talk2me) 05:26, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
  • I just pulled the WP:RM request from the Portal page. Since the page that you want to move the portal to is currently unoccupied, go ahead and move if it you guys really think it's necessary. Since plain "Madonna" was available though, I wouldn't worry about it. We generally shouldn't use the parenthesized disambiguators unless their absolutely necessary.
    V = I * R (talk to Ohms law) 05:48, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
The move is basically done but
* Template:Portal which is used for the small Portal box (see above Buzzzsherman on 17. Jan) and Template:WPBannerMeta which is used for Template:WikiProject Madonna don't allow for piping the link to the portal so it shows up as "Portal Madonna (entertainer)", at least I couldn't find a way to name the link (only the link of the picture). Maybe we should let it link to the redirect page?
  Done..Buzzzsherman (talk) 16:29, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
Sorry but it got a little confusing here. I undid your changes as per below, we thought it would be better to leave these templates to the redirect portal. --Bisco (talk) 16:48, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
* There's still an awful lot of Madonna articles which link to the redirect page Special:WhatLinksHere/Portal:Madonna e.g. GHV2 and Like a Virgin and only two articles that link to the moved page: Filth and Wisdom and Hey You (Madonna song)? I can't see why.
--Bisco (talk) 07:47, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
Answer to your first question, yes we can keep it as the redirect link, that should be fine. --Legolas (talk2me) 08:38, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
Answer to your second question, this happens because the last change on these articles were before the page was moved, hence untill their cache is purged, it will still link to the old redirect. Once somebody does a change on the article, it will start linking to the new one. --Legolas (talk2me) 08:38, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
Ok then all is good ^^, I change the 2 templates back to the redirect --Bisco (talk) 09:10, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

Just a question Bisco why the redirects ...just odd we would not fix that because now they appear on the pages with redirect that need to be fixed..I don't really care but i would guess that people will fix the dab links in time and you will have to revert this over and over!!...If some how we can get it off the list that might help you!!Buzzzsherman (talk) 20:12, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
update ok i got it off the --> list all looks normal!Buzzzsherman (talk) 20:24, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
Hi Buzzz, well these two templates look better with the redirect because there is no way to name the link "Portal:Madonna (entertainer)" to simply "Portal:Madonna". I don't think these redirects would appear as "need to be fixed" (Check Wikipedia etc.), as only double redirects are not wanted. But of course it is possible that someone in good faith updates the links again to avoid the redirect. I hope it doesn't happen so often. And the most used or most prominent template on "our" pages is Template:WikiProject Madonna - I think we could include a sentence in the documentation/Usage to not change the link. --Bisco (talk) 21:18, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
Yes that sounds good..a message!...Buzzzsherman (talk) 21:58, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

Category - Madonna video albums

All the Madonna related categories are named "... Madonna (entertainer)..." except Category:Madonna video albums, suggest move --Bisco (talk) 12:48, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

I'm really too tired today - I should have proposed a rename at WP:CFD but instead I created the new category Category:Madonna (entertainer) video albums and changed all the 25 articles to put them manually in the new cat, oh well, now I have to propose to delete the old cat, sorry, sorry - I'm not in my usual form, but promise to get better. --Bisco (talk) 18:19, 3 February 2010 (UTC) For the deletion, I will wait 4 days, then I can use the speedy template Db-c1 if the cat remains empty in this time --Bisco (talk) 18:53, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
I think what you did is fine. And when you are around , just nominate the other for CFD. Really appreaciated that you guys are taking the project seriously and its not a one-man show. --Legolas (talk2me) 03:52, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

Category - Works by Madonna

Category:Works by Madonna (entertainer) was created last October (by an admin engaged in category work (WP:CfD)) and was/is empty. I think using this category makes sense (= subcat in Category:Works by author and Category:Works by artist) but what subcategories and articles should be included? See suggestions below --Bisco (talk) 12:48, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

Subcategories to be included

Most of the 10 subcategories of Category:Madonna (entertainer) should be instead of in Category:Works by Madonna (entertainer).

should be in:

should not be in:

--Bisco (talk) 12:48, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

Comment- you will notice that on the project page Media connects/links to commons not Category:Images of Madonna (entertainer) --< since this is all full of nofairuse images....JUST FYI..PS this group is now rolling...Buzzzsherman (talk) 16:18, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

Articles to be included

Most of the articles about works by Madonna are in categories which would then be subcategories in Category:Works by Madonna (entertainer). But there are some articles which should be in Category:Works by Madonna (entertainer) instead of being in Category:Madonna (entertainer).

should be in:

maybe:

--Bisco (talk) 12:48, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

I agree with Bisco, that filmography doesnot seem a suitable article for teh Works cat to be put in. The others are fine. --Legolas (talk2me) 04:31, 21 January 2010 (UTC)
I start now changing the catagorization as per above. --Bisco (talk) 16:48, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
Most of the changes were already done. So the 'Works' cat is now well filled :) --Bisco (talk) 17:14, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

Request for comment on Biographies of living people

Hello Wikiproject! Currently there is a discussion which will decide whether wikipedia will delete 49,000 articles about a living person without references, here:

Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Biographies of living people

Since biographies of living people covers so many topics, many wikiproject topics will be effected.

The two opposing positions which have the most support is:

  1. supports the deletion of unreferenced articles about a living person, User:Jehochman
  2. opposes the deletion of unreferenced articles about a living person, except in limited circumstances, User:Collect

Comments are welcome. Keep in mind that by default, editor's comments are hidden. Simply press edit next to the section to add your comment.

Please keep in mind that at this point, it seems that editors support deleting unreferenced BLP articles if they are not sourced, so your project may want to source these articles as soon as possible. See the next, message, which may help.

Comments/To do

A list of affected articles would be helpful. I think there can't be many. The main article is not tagged right now. The discussion is paused at the moment. --Bisco (talk) 16:48, 3 February 2010 (UTC) Sorry, I seem to be too tired (it was a long day at work) - of course only the main article is a bio and therefore affected by this. So no prob now, nothing to do here. --Bisco (talk) 17:37, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

To-do and archive where?

Options:

  1. Do we want to use this talk page as to-do-list and archive what is done in subpages of the talk page (like Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Madonna/Archive 1)?
  2. Or do we want a subpage of the project page with to-dos (like WikiProject Madonna/To-do) and archive like this: WikiProject Madonna/To-do/Archive 1?
The Open-Task-Section Wikipedia:WikiProject Madonna#Open tasks could give an overview for people who step by and link to (sections of) the to-do-page (either version). btw "Add project tags to related articles" is this still an open task?

What do you think is best? --Bisco (talk) 19:00, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

I support option 1 as per other projects. --Legolas (talk2me) 03:14, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

Madonna articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Madonna articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

Ciao, Italia! – Live from Italy

Legolas2186 nominated Ciao, Italia! – Live from Italy for GA, although sadly he has left WP. I have reviewed the article, and left comments on the review page. If someone would kindly step in and do the few fix-ups, the article should be listed in no time! Adabow (talk · contribs) 10:13, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

Like a Prayer era

I have noticed that a lot of the articles pertaining to Like a Prayer and its singles need work, which is quite sad because the album is one of the most important in Madonna's career. Recently I have been expanding the album's page, but it's not complete, and I'd also like to improve the single pages, particularly "Like a Prayer" and "Express Yourself". "Like a Prayer"

The article "Like a Prayer" was considerably expanded, and was nominated for a Did You Know? recognition on the main page, which it passed. It has received over 6,900 views since then and has received a place in July 2011 statistics of DYK. — Legolas (talk2me) 08:14, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

Sex (book) needs attention

I have added many sources to the Sex (book) by Madonna the article needs alot of work I am surprised that such a famous book had no sources before I intervened. Dwanyewest (talk) 15:40, 19 September 2011 (UTC)

Impending FAR notice; help requested

Two Featured Articles that fall under the scope of this WikiProject have been found to have significant issues with verification failure and plagiarism:

Attention from any interested editors would be welcome. Due to the high rate of issues found so far, every single reference is going to need to be checked and fixed, where problems are found. Help from the primary editor of both of these (User:Legolas2186) doesn't seem to be forthcoming, since he disappeared when issues were raised. I'm hoping someone here has access to Taraborrelli and other book sources used, and can help us fix these.

The Featured Article Review process may be started soon for both of these. If no-one is able to help, they will likely lose FA status. --Laser brain (talk) 14:46, 23 February 2012 (UTC)

Move from Frozen (song) to Frozen (Madonna song)

I've moved Frozen (song) to Frozen (Madonna song) because, while Madonna's song is undoubtedly by far the most famous song with this title, there are several other songs with the same title which are notable enough to have their own Wikipedia articles. However, I've noticed that I've broken a lot of links; User:Tbhotch has already fixed some of them (thanks!), but is there a faster way to fix the remaining ones than manually going through the list of backlinks? Maybe a bot request? --Florian Blaschke (talk) 16:28, 1 June 2013 (UTC)

Dear Jessie

I had edited this article to remove an unnecessary infobox for a cover version with this edit. I had also removed unsourced tracklisting and music video info, so just kept the chart information since there is no other notability for the cover. User:Aspects reverted saying that the infobox is necessary and that the NFCC failing cover also. Here in lies the question, when a cover of a song is non-notable (and I know NSONGS) should an infobox be added to the article or not? Notability would be cases like "Love Don't Live Here Anymore" or "I Wanna Know What Love Is". —Indian:BIO · [ ChitChat ] 04:56, 13 April 2013 (UTC)

Oh, I have the answer, but I will give a   couple of hours.... Regards, Chrishonduras (talk) 13:20, 10 April 2013 (UTC)

Okay I'm back. The case not proceeds because no is necesary, that simple. It is only a article too small, in short words is a Stub that can we easily enlarge. There are several references that can be added, for example:

A bit of information
Marilyn Young, Wells' professor at the Department of Communication, says: People assume Madonna's not serious because she's kind of flip. But her impact is serious. She's an icon of pop culture. To the generation coming up, Madonna is more important than Leonard Bernstein. . . . We want to apply scholarly rigor to the study of pop culture. Wells is one of a growing number of Madonna scholars around the country - professors of English, anthropology, communication. They write papers for academic journals and conventions and discuss the videos in class. Many outsiders, of course, get a big laugh when hearing of Madonna studies. Others become indignant: So this is what goes on at state universities. Nor does this topic of study sit well with some scholars of higher education. There's no subject too ridiculous to be a subject of research in academics, says Charles Sykes, who has written two books critical of university teaching methods. This type of research is routine, says Theodore Clevenger, dean of FSU's Department of Communication. From an academic point of view, it doesn't seem peculiar to me. Think of it like this: If you're a Martian trying to figure out what's going on on Earth, Madonna is a blip on the planet. One year, it's the hula hoop. This year, it's Madonna.
A bit of information (Madonna's reaction to the Madonna-studies industry?)
What do the professional students say about Madonna? "I look at her as a barometer of culture," says Cathy Schwichtenberg, the editor of "The Madonna Connection," a 1993 collection of academic essays exploring the performer's influence on contemporary culture. "I also see her as waging semiotic warfare, working with certain strategies to upend stable categories of sexuality and gender. In popular culture Madonna serves as a vehicle to open up issues of gay sexuality, of race, of power and desire." Madonna's reaction to the Madonna-studies industry? "I laugh. It's amusing," she says. "It's flattering because obviously I'm on a lot of people's minds. But I read about all of these things, and I read what I meant by things, and I just think, all of this comes from my subconscious or my unconscious, I don't even think about it.
  • Book: The Madonna Companion: Two Decades of Commentary by Allan Metz and C. Benson. "Despite this new tendency to sentimentalize popular culture and exaggerate its subversive content, Madonna Studies in fact represent the ultimate act of cultural imperialism in the sense that Madonna simply provides a lift into the saddle for ..."

These are only a few references. Actually apart from the comments of many authors for this term, were written several essays or thesis, may be Madonnarama: Essays on Sex and Popular Culture is a example (And is need to create Bibliography about Madonna because is a relevant article). With this and more, well you can create a section called "Context" and / or "Critics about this term / phenomenon".

Best regards, Chrishonduras (talk) 03:32, 11 April 2013 (UTC)

After a recent request, I added WikiProject Madonna to the list of projects to compile monthly pageview stats for. The data is the same used by http://stats.grok.se/en/ but the program is different, and includes the aggregate views from all redirects to each page. All about the 13th studio album

Let's list all possible sources here, for the future article of her 13th studio album. Bluesatellite (talk) 15:24, 18 April 2014 (UTC)

What say we start building it up here: Wikipedia:WikiProject Madonna/Madonna 13? —Indian:BIO · [ ChitChat ] 06:58, 23 April 2014 (UTC)
Nice idea. Bluesatellite (talk) 00:35, 27 April 2014 (UTC)
OK I will start a draft. —Indian:BIO · [ ChitChat ] 06:49, 27 April 2014 (UTC)

I created the redirects "Devil Prays", Messiah (song), Rebel Heart (Madonna song) and Wash All Over Me. ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:35, 2 December 2014 (UTC)

""Devil Prays" Devil Pray is now a stub. ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:11, 2 December 2014 (UTC)
I reverted it. AB, are you even serious? This is completely WP:CRYSTAL. No where a track list or a song name from the album has been confirmed except "Messiah". "Devil Prays" is not confirmed as part of the final track list unlike "Messiah". So it is completely WP:TOOSOON to create, even a stub like this. I know, being WP:BOLD is all folks can think about, but sometimes, just turn on the leash? —Indian:BIO [ ChitChat ] 02:20, 3 December 2014 (UTC)
I figured Madonna's comments on the song and the numerous articles now talking about Devil Prays meant a stub could snowball as a confirmed song (not necessarily for her upcoming album, but just in general). Redirect is fine. No need to be so harsh. ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:53, 3 December 2014 (UTC)
AB, you know exactly why I said that. Couldn't it have plain waited for a confirmation from Madonna if the song is at all part of Madonna 13? Yes there are sources talking bout the Interview article, but what more there is? Its all a copy paste and hagio of the same para and interpretation. There in my utmost oppose against its creation and my comment about pulling the leash. —Indian:BIO [ ChitChat ] 16:15, 3 December 2014 (UTC)

@IndianBio: I expanded the stub for "Devil Pray" a bit more, now that the song is confirmed. There are many sources that have reviewed the song even before the album's release. This one even talks about differences between the original demo and the album version. I hope that you will help expand this article and let it grow, but even if you feel strongly that it should be redirected I ask that you please let me finish my current expansion. I noticed this morning that someone moved "Devil Pray" to "Devil Pray (Madonna song)" for reasons I don't understand because the disambiguation is not needed when there are no other articles called "Devil Pray". Update: I went ahead and moved the page back to "Devil Pray". ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:00, 28 January 2015 (UTC)

No I won't revert it, but it will take a lot of time for me to develop it. It does pass WP:N though due to the ample third party notability. —Indian:BIO [ ChitChat ] 17:16, 28 January 2015 (UTC)
Glad to hear. Thank you, IB. ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:47, 28 January 2015 (UTC)

Update: I added some charts peaks to Talk:Ghosttown (song), Talk:Illuminati (Madonna song), and Talk:Bitch I'm Madonna. ---Another Believer (Talk) 01:57, 9 February 2015 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

Like It or Not (Madonna song) and Like It Or Not (Madonna song)?

  Unresolved

Do we need both redirects? Doesn't only one actually follow WP's manual of style? Or, should we at least remove one of them from the category Category:Madonna (entertainer) songs so that it does not appear twice? ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:56, 20 December 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject X is live!

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

Hello Madonna Wikiproject!, I notify that I created the article Bibliography about Madonna (actually, i dont know if the title is correct; please correct it if necessary). Again, please if somebody correct the grammar, traduction, format from references etc. I will add this article in the section from the Madonna songs (covers); because I dont wanna be spam. New article: Records and achievements of Madonna

Hello, Madonna Wikiproject!. I notify that I created the article Records and achievements of Madonna. Again, please if somebody correct the grammar, english traduction, format from references, and connectivity with the paragraphs, etc. Actually, I dont know if the title is correct; please correct it if necessary (is the second article on this topic, behind Records and achievements of Michael Jackson). Thanks, Chrishonduras (talk) 21:36, 11 April 2015 (UTC)

Brilliant work, however this one is a little difficult to navigate. I have requested the FLC director SchroCat to take a look regarding how to better it. The record section text is also a little overboard. —Indian:BIO [ ChitChat ] 05:19, 12 April 2015 (UTC)

Madonna's Rebel Heart

A peer review request can be found here. Snuggums (talk / edits) 03:37, 10 May 2015 (UTC)

Hello. I created these two new articles. I really want them to look as neutral as possible. Article of cultural impact, I believe many statements may (for some) apparently a fan site or something, but I found references for each statement, including her peculiar status with superlatives and subjectivities. And are in the appropriate context, with a good balance (I think). I tried to find the most reliable references, especially academic appointments.

On article Madonna in popular culture, it is a dynamic list, but even, right now, not is complete (here in Wikipedia) we can found references of Madonna by her book sex and other works, but not is (right now) in the article. Wherever, I put the template "under construction", because, want by create the article is wrong. Everybody can now, add references and not is occult in my boxes. Thanks, --Chrishonduras (talk) 16:05, 24 June 2015 (UTC)

The second article has to go. It is pure and pure trivia and compilation of everything that the first article can be made home off. We are going too tangent on the articles Chrisonduras. I appreciate your help a lot, but lets not go overboard. —Indian:BIO [ ChitChat ] 16:30, 24 June 2015 (UTC)

Greetings WikiProject Madonna/Archive 1 Members!

This is a one-time-only message to inform you about a technical proposal to revive your Popular Pages list in the 2016 Community Wishlist Survey that I think you may be interested in reviewing and perhaps even voting for:

If the above proposal gets in the Top 10 based on the votes, there is a high likelihood of this bot being restored so your project will again see monthly updates of popular pages.

Further, there are over 260 proposals in all to review and vote for, across many aspects of wikis.

Thank you for your consideration. Please note that voting for proposals continues through December 12, 2016.

Best regards, SteviethemanDelivered: 18:03, 7 December 2016 (UTC)

We – Community Tech – are happy to announce that the Popular pages bot is back up-and-running (after a one year hiatus)! You're receiving this message because your WikiProject or task force is signed up to receive the popular pages report. Every month, Community Tech bot will post at Wikipedia:WikiProject Madonna/Archive 1/Popular pages with a list of the most-viewed pages over the previous month that are within the scope of WikiProject Madonna.

We've made some enhancements to the original report. Here's what's new:

  • The pageview data includes both desktop and mobile data.
  • The report will include a link to the pageviews tool for each article, to dig deeper into any surprises or anomalies.
  • The report will include the total pageviews for the entire project (including redirects).

We're grateful to Mr.Z-man for his original Mr.Z-bot, and we wish his bot a happy robot retirement. Just as before, we hope the popular pages reports will aid you in understanding the reach of WikiProject Madonna, and what articles may be deserving of more attention. If you have any questions or concerns please contact us at m:User talk:Community Tech bot.

WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject

The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.

Portals are being redesigned.

The new design features are being applied to existing portals.

At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template Transclude lead excerpt.

The discussion about this can be found here.

Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.

Background

On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.

There's an article in the current edition of the Signpost interviewing project members about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.

So far, 84 editors have joined.

If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.

If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.

Thank you.    — The Transhumanist   10:59, 31 May 2018 (UTC)

Please comment with your opinion in the nomination. —IB [ Poke ] 14:34, 31 May 2018 (UTC)

MfD nomination of Portal:Madonna (entertainer)

Portal:Madonna (entertainer), a page which you created or substantially contributed to, has been nominated for deletion. Your opinions on the matter are welcome; you may participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Portal:Madonna (entertainer) and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Portal:Madonna (entertainer) during the discussion but should not remove the miscellany for deletion template from the top of the page; such a removal will not end the deletion discussion. Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)

Spanish and other languages?

Are there any project members who speak languages other than English and would be willing to translate some of the project's Good articles and nominate them for similar status on other Wikipedias? ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:21, 1 July 2018 (UTC)

There are a bunch of users (including myself) working on Madonna's articles beyond English Wikipedia. Her articles in Spanish wikipedia usually are long and with good material. Even, we have many of them just in our version (you can have an idea with this category). If someone have any concern about them, let me know or anyone in her Wikiproject there. I could ask for help; personally I know two or more "professional translators" among the administrators, in all directions eng-spanish or spanish-eng etc.

I Love New York (Madonna song)

Please see Talk:I Love New York (Madonna song) if you're interested in helping to determine whether or not there should be a Wikipedia article for I Love New York (Madonna song). The article at French Wikipedia has been promoted to quality status, yet there is currently no article here at English Wikipedia. ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:00, 7 January 2019 (UTC)

Madonna as a gay icon

Just to let everyone know, "Madonna as a gay icon" reached the good status in Spanish wikipedia a few months ago. You can have a general pespective in how this article could be here, even better than "Janet Jackson as a gay icon" (it has the good status). --Chrishonduras (talk) 03:29, 20 February 2020 (UTC)

Madonna tour articles

[copied from User talk:Ojorojo#Madonna & Blond Ambition]

Hello how are you? Listen, regarding the Blond Ambition Tour dates table; if that's how the guideline states tables for concert dates should be, would you mind helping me do it to all Madonna tours? I'd really appreaciate it.

Thank you!!

--Christian (talk) 16:07, 7 May 2020 (UTC)

@Chrishm21: OK. The Cry of Love Tour and The Untouchable Tour are two GAs that follow the guidelines and Tommy Tour almost does, so you can see how some others do it [as of 11 May Tommy Tour does also]. There are different options for fixing the headers that span several columns in the middle of the tables, which are usually used for identifying "legs" or continents: make separate tables for each (Tommy & corrected Blond); one table but with another column for continent (Blond test[2]), or just remove (Cry & Untouchable). For Cry, I couldn't find a reliable source that actually identifies or distinguishes "legs" – an earlier version had three, but they seemed arbitrary/OR – so I felt that the location and venue columns were sufficient (is it really important to the article that Australia is in Oceania or the U.S. is in North America?). So, if you want consistency, you can choose one that works well for all her tours or use the one that works best for each individual tour. BTW, U.S. or US is perfectly OK to use in WP articles and probably is preferred in tables (see MOS:ACRO Exceptions). —Ojorojo (talk) 17:25, 7 May 2020 (UTC)

I started with any easy one, The Virgin Tour, which only has one leg/continent.[3] I see the GA nominator has been indefinitely blocked for "Evidently fabricated sources and quotes". Is this a concern? —Ojorojo (talk) 14:26, 9 May 2020 (UTC)

Comment — Surely there has got to be a way to slightly edit the current set up, as it does look a bit more cluttered and fluffed, not to mention, a bit messy on the overall. Surely, there's got to be a way to adhere to the MoS, while also making it appear nicer. One note is that section headers, the examples given do not separate tables per section header; surely, a more appropriate table caption (to adhere to MOS:TABLECAPTION would be more appropriate, then headings or makeshift ones with bolded text? And, above, you linked to The Untouchable Tour, however, that article does not require a break and year within the header. Surely, listing the full date (including year) would be more appropriate and clean, especially to adhere to MOS:ACCESSIBILITY for the visually-impaired visitors of Wikipedia. Also, please do not ping me in response — I have this discussion page on my watchlist. livelikemusic talk! 20:23, 9 May 2020 (UTC)
I've included an example below, using the dates of the Madame X Tour. Surely, it follows all policies, and is a much cleaner look, which should hopefully be acceptable to viewers. livelikemusic talk! 20:38, 9 May 2020 (UTC)
"Nice", "fluffed", "messy", etc., are subjective terms that not everyone can agree on. To me, your proposed example does not look "cleaner", but has a certain amateurish appearance.
  • 1) Your proposed example does not include ! scope="row" to identify the rows, which is a key part of MOS:DTAB.
  • 2) I used the existing table captions, except for one clarification. Your proposal makes substantial changes, which don't follow current practices. The existing format of listing all the column names in the caption is standard practice in Featured lists, which seems to be followed in all the Madonna tour articles. Perhaps more abbreviated captions may also meet MOS:TABLECAPTION, but, again, I used the existing ones as in the earlier Madame X Tour.[4]
  • 3) I used bolded text for the leg/continent to introduce the sections, but these can be replaced with level 3 headers if desired.
  • 4) The same year may be repeated for every entry instead of being in the column heading, but it's like repeating "New York City" or "Chicago Theatre" for every entry, rather than using rowspan. To me, it gives a cluttered, busy appearance, but technically meets the guideline. If that is what most want, so be it.
  • 5) "United States" may be used instead of "U.S.", but why? Tables and charts usually try to conserve on space and it is an acceptable practice in WP articles (see MOS:ACRO Exceptions: "For these commonly-referred-to entities, the full name does not need to be written out in full on first use, nor provided on first use in parentheses after the full name if written out ... US or U.S."). Again, if that what is wanted, fine.
I don't see that we're that far apart. The bigger challenge is the other tour articles that have up to six legs; some will have to be combined or there will be separate tables for only a couple of entries. Or have one table with an additional column for leg/continent, so separate tables are not needed.
Ojorojo (talk) 22:41, 9 May 2020 (UTC)

The tables at Blond Ambition Tour are definitely better, in suiting with MOS:TABLECAPTION, however, I am still not sold on how dates are presented, and do not see such harm in including the full dates per row. I also added the |! scope="row"|, which I normally would implement into a table, however, was merely copy-pasting the table and editing a bit to represent a general set up, as well as spacing and general fixes. I've gone in and re-implemented it. livelikemusic (TALK!) 17:42, 13 May 2020 (UTC)

Including the year for each entry introduces an inconsistency that is nearly nonexistent without it: longer months plus two-digit dates plus year (e.g., December 28, 2018) require two rows, while shorter ones (May 1, 2018) require one row. This is more noticeable on other tour tables, where the entries sometimes jump from one to two rows. I'm assuming that a consistent approach is preferred for Madonna tour articles; what do others think? —Ojorojo (talk) 18:24, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
Since there's no other interest in this, it looks like your modified proposal is the one. I'll update the articles I already started on. —Ojorojo (talk) 14:24, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
livelikemusic: Why is it necessary to highlight the cells that contain "N/A" in The Girlie Show World Tour article?[6] Normally, highlighting is done to make the item standout, so readers can easily identify it, such as a charting single or for some other noteworthy recognition. As it's used, the fact that the information is unavailable hardly seems more important than entries that have info. Instead, highlighting cells that show peaks in attendance or revenue would be of more benefit to the reader. —Ojorojo (talk) 16:28, 24 May 2020 (UTC)

Tour articles

The tables for ALL Madonna concert tours need to go back to their old design. The current design is terrible and needs to be changed for not just Madonna but all concert tours that have it 2600:6C46:6800:21F8:8C50:3C96:C1A5:FA93 (talk) 03:10, 9 March 2021 (UTC).

User script to detect unreliable sources

I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like

  • John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14.)

and turns it into something like

It will work on a variety of links, including those from cite web, cite journal and doi.

The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.

Do note that this is not a script to be mindlessly used, and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at User:Headbomb/unreliable. Questions, comments and requests can be made at User talk:Headbomb/unreliable.
