I have added some FA's which belong to this Wikiproject. Can anyone find more FA's and GA's. KensplanetTalkE-mailContributions 07:03, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

Template needs to be added

{{WPIndia Navigation}} =Nichalp «Talk»= 08:29, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

Yes, add it. KensplanetTalkE-mailContributions 08:48, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
Could you please tag it? I tried, but the template is killing off the design. =Nichalp «Talk»= 09:07, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
Done. Tagged it. But you may modify it as per priority. Priorities are yet to be set. KensplanetTalkE-mailContributions 09:17, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

Redesign

I have redesigned the Wikiproject. The main purpose was to utilise maximum space. In the normal format, there's a lot of whitespace and a lot of space is wasted which increases the length of the page. This design saves a lot of space. Hope it helps. KensplanetTalkE-mailContributions 08:41, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

Please see the member list towards right it is not looking good can you re arrange it?Suyogaerospacetalk to me! 11:28, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
Done. However which section should be at the bottom and which should be at the top has to be decided. KensplanetTalkE-mailContributions 13:09, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

Project updates

I have done the following:

  • Added the mumbai=yes parameter to {{WP India}}
  • Added the geographic scope of the project
Needs to be done
I'll work. KensplanetTalkE-mailContributions 09:22, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
Hold on. I think Tunucherian has a bot for this. =Nichalp «Talk»= 10:02, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

Mumbai Meetup

Hello all I have seen Singapore's project page (see this Wikipedia:Meetup/Singapore. Wikipedians in Singapore are helding meetups at regular intervals I am suggesting that we must also try to conduct such meet or atlest we can do a conference on yahoo messenger or MSN. Please take my idea seriously Suyogaerospacetalk to me! 11:33, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

Excuse me they don't meant to have picnic or to find friends; I just want a meeting to improve Mumbai articles just compare our articles and articles of other cities. our articles are pathetic We have less number of features articles just because of Lack of coordination we should only aim to improve articleIf you say my idea is for Fun then What was Wiki meet in Alexandria?? A social networking for editers from all over the world? or a wiki sponsered picnic?Suyogaerospacetalk to me! 13:24, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
A meetup should have more than 4 to 5 people I feel. Best we wait till out numbers increase. =Nichalp «Talk»= 18:56, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
By that time we can held a cyber meet on yahoo or MSN or even on wiki IRC- Suyogaerospacetalk to me! 05:30, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

Assessment

I was thinking about the assessment and how we rate the priority, so here goes:

  • Places
    • All railway stations within the metro= "mid". Fast stops such as Dadar, Thane, Bandra ="high"
    • Other important places such as Colaba, Worli = high
    • All other top level such as Versova = mid
    • Smaller regions such as Amboli, Irla = low
  • "XX of Mumbai"/"XX in Mumbai"
    • Top rated = "Geography of Mumbai", "History of Mumbai", "Geology of Mumbai", "Transport in Mumbai" -- all those that spin off the {{main}} template on the Mumbai page.
    • Others rate as high
  • Historical events that shaped Mumbai: Bomb blasts, Naval mutiny, Bombay explosion: rate has high

Thoughts? =Nichalp «Talk»= 14:41, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

D.N.Nager Should Be High its was most Encountered Area. Most of Bollywood ppl live in D.N.Nager Jurisdection-Suyogaerospacetalk to me! 13:34, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
I don't see why just because Bollywood actors stay anywhere it should be top rated. Bollywood stars have no effect on the importance. Please see WP:ASSESS. =Nichalp «Talk»= 14:04, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
I mentioned Bollywood as just a example but D.N.Nager is the strategically important police station and Geographically also. There are Important Sewage treating plant, Pumping station, AAI's Radio station, etc.--Suyogaerospacetalk to me! 14:35, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
What do you mean by 'strategically important'? It's not what a location has, its how it fits into the overall picture. =Nichalp «Talk»= 17:32, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
D.N.Nager police station is strategically important in western region. Its a HQ of zone XI, its a office of Add.C.P, Its a base of MPB, MOB, CID, Narcotic it was a base of Daya nayak and his Team --Suyogaerospacetalk to me! 14:09, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
Again, please read my statement above. It's not the buildings or people who determine the importance of a place. Its how crucial it is to the city. google results throw up the fact that it is a sub-entity of Andheri. To put things in perspective, I do not think Gah need to be a top rated India article just because Manmohan Singh was born there. =Nichalp «Talk»= 15:43, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
I got you bro sorry for my silly comments I'll keep that in mindSuyogaerospacetalk to me! 15:56, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

Announcements

I think we must have announcements regarding the progress of the articles related to the Wikiproject as in WP:CITY. How's the Idea?KensplanetTalkE-mailContributions 14:12, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Sounds good, but should be updated regularly. =Nichalp «Talk»= 17:38, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

More FA's & GA's

I was just thinking of adding these Fa's and GA's
Preity Zinta - she stays in Mumbai and is a Mumbaikar
Lage Raho Munna Bhai - since Bollywood is based in Bombay
Kareena Kapoor (GA) - she was born in Mumbai, she stays in Mumbai and is officially a Mumbaikar
Any comments? KensplanetTalkE-mailContributions 16:15, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

No, films should not be included in the scope. There is a separate wikiproject for that. About people, personally I do not think every person should be included within the scope of WP Mumbai just because they are residents. WP Mumbai should include people who have represented Mumbai or done something for Mumbai at sometime or the other. Political leaders, Municipal presidents and commissioners and sheriffs for example. =Nichalp «Talk»= 17:38, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
I concur with Nichalp. But, what makes these BIO articles to come under geographical region India but not Mumbai? Also, if tomorrow lets say organizations (which are not BIOs) like Patni Computer Systems or BCCI which have registered offices in Mumbai become FA will they be kept out similarly? --gppande «talk» 19:10, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
Well, these calls are subjective See importance. A thumb rule on how I would classify the importance would be on how crucial the contributions of a wikiproject are going to be as far as information contribution to the article. Think of it this way. This project can write aeons on Dadar, as it is critical to Mumbai. But what Mumbai-specific content can we contribute to a Preity Zinta? Again, unless Patni has significant contributions to Mumbai, I would exclude it. BCCI might be included, but of lower importance as BCCI has strong connections with the city. It would be a tough call. =Nichalp «Talk»= 19:27, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
I got the thumb rule how crucial the contributions of a wikiproject are going to be as far as information contribution to the article. That makes it clearer now. May be can put it where the geographical north-south-east boundaries are mentioned on front page of this project. But that brings up another small doubt. How about hindi movies based on Mumbai mafia and riots like Bombay (movie), D (film), Black Friday (film) and Satya (film)? These movie articles contain tons of information about life in Mumbai (of course of underworld, not us). I am not getting too nutty here but just trying to understand the things. --gppande «talk» 20:43, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
Movies which have story based on Mumbai Must be kept in block "Mumbai in cultures"Suyogaerospacetalk to me! 05:02, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
It's perfectly fine to keep asking questions. That's what this talk page of the project is about. Suyog is right, the movies that have a strong Mumbai theme should be included. But as per the assessment importance, the movie covers a niche segment about Mumbai, so the priority would be low. =Nichalp «Talk»= 09:05, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

That's great Suyog! Is it possible for you to also make a welcome template like {{India quick links}}. We can slap them on the userpages of anyone who is new and makes substantial contributions to Mumbai, or makes Mumbai-related contributions, or has just joined WP Mumbai. =Nichalp «Talk»= 17:42, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
Can you make it.....This user is a member of Wikiproject Mumbai instead of Wikipedia:Wikiproject Mumbai KensplanetTalkE-mailContributions 12:28, 7 August 2008 (UTC)
  • Thanks for appreciation, I used Wikipedia:Wikiproject Mumbai because it provides a quick link to our project.

Should these article belong to WP MUMBAI?

  1. Rudyard Kipling, yes. He was born here, he wrote a poem on the city, and WP Mumbai can contribute information on his early life, including pictures of his birth mansion.
  2. Centuries: no. Cause it belongs in WP Cricket. Nothing that WP Mumbai can contribute.
  3. 2008 attacks. Yes without a reason. The attacks were started in the city and there is lots that WP Mumbai can contribute.

=Nichalp «Talk»= 07:19, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

Very well. Removed centuries. The FL list is now empty :( KensplanetTalkE-mailContributions 07:37, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
Potential FLs:

I've got two potential featured lists if anyone is interested in pushing them to FL status. I can help with photographs for some. =Nichalp «Talk»= 07:50, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

Yes, we can upgrade them. Can you provide a reference FL. I think List of Governors of Bombay will be easier than List of Mumbai beaches. KensplanetTalkE-mailContributions 07:58, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
I have found a reference FL (List of popes). One of the excellent lists which I have encountered. Will this work? KensplanetTalkE-mailContributions 08:00, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

<reindent>List of Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu should be the base. This [1] is a starting reference, but needs to be cross checked. =Nichalp «Talk»= 09:21, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

Maps

What all maps are required for Mumbai? These are some

  1. Police Zones
  2. BMC wards
  3. Topographical
  4. Talukas
  5. Parishes

Does anyone have maps to the above? I can draw one for the project by using it as reference. =Nichalp «Talk»= 15:41, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

A logo/image? Something that will stand out at icon resolutions:

Some suggestions:

  1. Gateway of India
  2. Map of the city
  3. BMC HQ

=Nichalp «Talk»= 13:02, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

BMC HQ or V.T station? I think GoI and Map will not work. Select one of aboveSuyogaerospacetalk to me! 13:09, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
BMC HQ might me the most photographed building by tourist. But the GoI is Iconic to Mumbai - Most foreigners relate GoI to Mumbai. As also seen on various news channels like whenever a person is giving interview on phone from Mumbai - GoI is shown on TV in background. But then it can confusing to Delhi's India Gate too. --gppande «talk» 13:25, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
Not if the angle is different. A seaward angle or one with the Taj to the background. The unique coastline of Mumbai can also be a logo =Nichalp «Talk»= 13:38, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
I strongly say that GoI will confuse people We must decide between BMC and V.T station. I am giving 51% to BMC and V.T 49%--Suyogaerospacetalk to me! 13:42, 19 July 2008 (UTC) Any more suggestions?
Why would it confuse people? =Nichalp «Talk»= 13:43, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
It looks same a foreigner will surely get confused, Have you been to India gate? All foreigner were saying it looks like GoI. I think BMC is good--Suyogaerospacetalk to me! 14:10, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
I have been to India Gate. The structures are different. India Gate and the Arc de Triomphe might look similar, but not GoI. Here's a tip to remember. We should not bother if "foreigners get confused". In fact that could be termed as POV too. If people are ignorant, then it is Wikipeidia's aim to inform them. =Nichalp «Talk»= 14:41, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
Please BMC final please BMC Please please its for the Bombay to the Bombay by the Bombay (purposely using Bombay mumbai is after 1996)Suyogaerospacetalk to me! 14:46, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
Tile any image to 30px and see how it looks. The idea is to have an image that represents Mumbai at such low resolutions. Can you thumb some suitable images? =Nichalp «Talk»= 14:59, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
30X30resolution??(What can one see in it?) By tomorrow it will be ready Suyogaerospacetalk to me! 15:56, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

One of above will work ??Suyogaerospacetalk to me! 16:06, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

I am assuming that you mean the logo will be placed on the project banners. For that a 30-50px image is required. We cannot use the Seal of Mumbai image. We can only use free images. =Nichalp «Talk»= 19:51, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

I have added the best possible iconic images of Mumbai from commons in the above gallery. You can easily relate to Mumbai by any of these images as they are shown in some angle or another on most news channels. Lets vote.

I support Gateway of India or Queen's Necklace. However Image:Gateway of India.jpg has been over-sharpened. --KnowledgeHegemonyPart2 16:44, 22 July 2008 (UTC)
I resized them to 50px. Still GoI seems recognizable along with flora fountain. --gppande «talk» 21:08, 22 July 2008 (UTC)
The GoI and Stock Exchange building look recognisable to me. However, I would prefer portrait images rather than landscape images as it takes up too much of real estate (line height) on the pages. =Nichalp «Talk»= 05:50, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
Flora-Fountain also represents Hutatma Chowk. Lets Support Flora fountain Jai Hind jai maharashtra -Suyogaerospacetalk to me! 14:57, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
I have added GoI as the logo since there was the largest consensus for it, and only one oppose. =Nichalp «Talk»= 09:00, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
Agree with Gateway. I have als o added it in the Intro. KensplanetTalkE-mailContributions 09:02, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

Collobration of the Month/Year

Which article should be the Collobration of the Month/Year

The History of Mumbai seems to be in a good shape. I think that was thanks to the work of user:Rama's Arrow. I don't know if it is comprehensive enough though or if it needs to be split into daughter articles. It would be great if we can get one monolithic article up and then pare them to daughter articles. This would produce several featured Mumbai history articles. The climate of Mumbai could do with a collaboration instead IMO. =Nichalp «Talk»= 17:21, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

I can add a lot of refs if anyone wishes to elevate it to FA status. Kensplanet (talk) 17:24, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

Would you be willing to handle it as lead nom? I'll support you with checking for prose issues, comprehensiveness, creation of maps, and sourcing of any old photos. Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 06:28, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

Lets make History of Mumbai featured. I have already started adding REFs. I had nominated a FAC but it failed. The FAC taught me about reliable sources. So I can proudly say I have a good knowledge about reliable sources. All editors please add History of Mumbai to your watch. Kensplanet (talk) 08:57, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

Mangalore for FA is not yet dead, it just had too much controversy right now. If you wait a month, it should be a smoother passage. I would suggest you not add references now. When I write FAs, I usually add references at the end as it become hard to read the text when editing for flow, balance and structure. See this skeleton structure. The article at this moment lacks a definate flow, and some events are missing. So, some amount of prose work is needed. =Nichalp «Talk»= 10:17, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
I'll try to implement that. Kensplanet (talk) 13:52, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Using blogs as sources is discouraged. But nice to know that you can contribute a lot of photos. We desperately need good photos for Mumbai Police and Fire Bridage. Take as many good informative shiny photos as you can of men at work, their offices, arms and equipments and vans/vehicles. Make sure you pass the copyright information correctly while uploading as last time we had an issue with Mumbai Police logo. --gppande «talk» 14:45, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

I do hope you can get Mumbai Police and Fire brigade up to FA status. I've listed some sections that need to be covered on the MP talk page. If you can get the information, referenced through reliable sources, I'll try and pull some strings on Commons to get the MP emblem professionally SVGized. =Nichalp «Talk»= 13:55, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

The dont allow photography at the Mahalaxmi temple, so it would be difficult to get one unless you can sneak in one with a mobile phone, and hope not to get caught, which is difficult considering the police presence. The temple here is too small for anyone to figure out where the temple is. :( =Nichalp «Talk»= 17:58, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Hindu-Muslim unity is subjective. Just because the two religious structures lie within close proximity, it doesn't really imply a communal unity. PS The police may not know about Wikipedia, if you tell them you are doing research for a "book" on Bombay, it might work. =Nichalp «Talk»= 04:55, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

You've touched on a very valid point. What you speak of is known as the freedom of panorama. Short answer yes, you can upload it. Do note, it was the image caption I mentioned for the above query of yours, not the image. See more below. =Nichalp «Talk»= 13:30, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
What is POV??--Suyogaerospacetalk to me! 13:15, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
Point of View. Its a common wikipedia term. See WP:NPOV. Make sure you know this policy inside out as it is a core WP (Wikipedia) policy. =Nichalp «Talk»= 13:30, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Copyrights etc.

  • The freedom of panorama is legal in India. What this means is that you can take out a picture of a building and publish it. In some countries such as France, that picture is copyrighted not by you, but by the architect. Similarly, pictures of statues and art are legal in India.
  • Images of people shot in public places are legal.
  • However when we talk about images, it really boils down to the subject of the image. I cannot take a photograph of my television that is showing a story of Sachin Tendulkar on TV, and then upload Sachin's picture as a free image.

Upload script for photographs

I know this is shameless advertising :) I've written a Perl script to batch-upload your photographs to commons. ( See commons:User:Nichalp/Upload script) Highlights:

  • Rename images on-the-fly
  • Rotate images on-the-fly
  • Add geotags and categories
  • Add Exif data
  • Add templates such as information, coordinates, camera information, flickr information
  • All you need to do it add the data in a spreadsheet alongside the image name.

More details on that page. Now that give you no excuse not to put all those photos that you felt too lazy to upload. :) =Nichalp «Talk»= 13:55, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

I have assessed and tagged 46 educational institution articles for WP:MUM whose wikilinks were found at List of colleges in Mumbai. Kensplanet (talk) 20:28, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
Great. I notice some more tags you can add when assessing:
  1. If there is no infobox, add needs-infobox=yes
  2. If there is no image, add image-needed=yes and also add the template {{photoreq|in=Mumbai}}
  3. If geo-coordinates are absent, add the {{locate me|September 2008}} template
  4. If there is more than one WikiProject consider adding {{WikiProjectBannerShell|1=|2=}}]] and use the nested=yes parameters in the respective project banner.
  5. Also use assess-date=September 2008
Also try and add banners for other projects, for example you can add the banner for education, lake, rivers and so on.

Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Mumbai

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.

We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection before December 2008, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! For the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial team, SelectionBot 16:15, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

Created Film City

Project scope

I propose to reduce the scope of Mumbai-related articles. I notice a lot of places in the metropolitan area would be unnecessarily tagged with WP:MUM with no real coorelation with Mumbai. For example, a school in Kasara will be WP:MUM, but infact has no relevance to this project. So, I propose that only articles outside the city limits that do have relevance to the city be tagged as WP:MUM. Thoughts? =Nichalp «Talk»= 05:53, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

Well that's for sure that the scope of the Project is restricted to the Mumbai metropolitan area and not Mumbai City. Well, I appreciate your suggestions, they are quiet exquisite. It may be easy for us to understand what needs to be tagged for WP:MUM. But for an interested Wikipedian who is not a member of WP:MUM, s/he will just tag any article that falls within the project's regional scope with WP:MUM. So don't you think implementing this would be difficult? Kensplanet (talk) 11:34, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
I suggest lets make change scope to Mumbai city and not Mumbai metropolitan area. Leave the politics out. Why have a scope that is large just for the heck of it!? --KnowledgeHegemonyPart2 13:44, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
Well, then we are going to miss a lot of things. For example, New Bombay will be completely out. Isn't this a loss for the project? Kensplanet (talk) 15:25, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
Ah, well? I donno? Its an inclusionist vs deletionist debate. --KnowledgeHegemonyPart2 15:59, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
I think let me clear few points. Currently we have two Mumbais Old Mumbai and Navi Mumbai; Maharashtra Govt is planning to creat a third Mumbai comprasing of Uran, Nahava-Shiva. So what want? a seprate Wikiproject for three cities? Or this project should govern all the three cities?
In short:- Scope of this project should limit to Mumbai metropolitan (Colaba to Virar, V.T to Kalayan) OR Mumbai Agglomeration (Mumbai+Navi Mumbai+Third Mumbai)??????
I strongly suggest that we must conduct a poll and then should come to a conclusion--Suyogaerospacetalk to me! 16:39, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
I would really love to limit the scope of the project to Mumbai City (Churchgate to Dahisar on Western) and (VT to Mulund on Central). But there a few places like Bassein (Vasai), Nalasopara and Thane which have extreme significance with respect to the History of Mumbai. And how can we forget the future International airport at Navi Mumbai, the Knowledge City, the largest economic park of India, all at Navi Mumbai. Kensplanet (talk) 17:17, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
I think some lateral thinking is required to look at it from a different perspective, and to avoid duplicating WP:Maharashtra. Some points to decide on scope:
  1. All places, events, significant people etc in Mumbai city limits = INSCOPE
  2. All stations on Mumbai suburban routes = INSCOPE
  3. Places and geography in the Mumbai metropolitan region (such as water supply lakes, power stations that service Mumbai etc.) = INSCOPE
  4. History of places such as Matheran, with little relation to Mumbai = OUTOFSCOPE
  5. Religious places such as temples, churches, etc. out of Mumbai that have no bearing on Mumbai (historical, or present pilgrimage) = OUTOFSCOPE
  6. Professional colleges (such as engg, medicine, architecture) in the metropolitan area = INSCOPE

If my points seems a bit complicated, let me know. The idea behind the tagging is the relevance to the metropolis of Mumbai. As we move further away, check if the article has some relevance to the geography, history, culture, economy or people of Mumbai. That's it. =Nichalp «Talk»= 19:51, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

According to me in Mumbai must atlest include Virar to Dhanu region and Mulund to Kasara/Karjat Region.--Suyogaerospacetalk to me! 04:57, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
Ok then that means virtually anyting that falls within Mumbai City limits may it be a temple, church or college or school can be tagged with WP:MUM. The problem is only with the metropolitan area. I think then Nichalp is right. Accordingly, Some articles like Vasai, Navi Mumbai can also be tagged with the project then. Kensplanet (talk) 16:58, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Big loss for WikiProject Mumbai

The FA Rudyard Kipling has been demoted. A Big loss for WP:MUM. So, from 3, now we have only 2 FA's. Kensplanet (talk) 17:10, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Why is it a Big loss? He was just born in Bombay nothing more than that.--Suyogaerospacetalk to me! 14:14, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
Well, if you read the Rudyard Kipling article, you'll find that he had written many poems on Bombay, which have been published in many reputed journals. One is mentioned in the Childhood and early life section, which I am quoting.......

Mother of Cities to me,
For I was born in her gate,
Between the palms and the sea,
Where the world-end steamers wait.

He was not only born in Bombay but also attached to it. It is a great loss. KensplanetTalkContributions 09:42, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

I agree 100% with you that he was attached to Mumbai. But I am confused with this comment of Nichalp[2] --Suyogaerospacetalk to me! 16:14, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

WP:MUM in ITN.

In past few days I nominated the article of Arvind Adiga and also expanded+lobbied hard for Sachin Tendulkar's article to get both of them on Main page ITN. Both people are closely associated to Mumbai. Should these ITN entry's be posted on Mumbai project page as we have posted few DYKs ? Also should both the article pages be included in scope of WP:MUM? --GPPande talk! 08:41, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Sachin Tendulkar's article should belong to WP:MUM since he has represented Mumbai in many domestic tournaments. That should add some credibility for his inclusion. Has Aravind Adiga represented Mumbai anywhere? Has he written some books on Mumbai. If he has done, then he should be speedily included. KensplanetTalkContributions 09:38, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
Well, this confirms Arvind lives in Mumbai. --GPPande talk! 09:51, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
I knew that before. If you check the Aravind Adiga#Career, it is already mentioned there. I had also added two categories to the article if you check the history.

Category:People from Mumbai
Category:People from Maharashtra

I think we have already discussed this that living in Mumbai and being an official or domiciled resident is not a sufficient criteria to be included under WP:MUM. You had also discussed this at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Mumbai/Archive 1#More FA's & GA's KensplanetTalkContributions 10:10, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

I had some spare time in this holiday season but with no internet connection. After doing some basic drawing I came up with this barnstar. Let me know your thoughts if something needs to be changed here or it is fine as it is. My drawing skills are very crude but atleast I will give a try. --GPPande talk! 09:33, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

I would scream as usual, convert to *SVG* please! :) But nice work regardless. I have a suggestion: This barnstar has little co-relation with anything Mumbai. Might I suggest that the star be tweak so that is somewhat like the start on the Mumbai police logo? =Nichalp «Talk»= 09:39, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

I had thought of making a Mumbai connection and made this image earlier - but I kept the usual star only. BTW, the building I wanted to showcase is GoI - can you recognize it? I will give a try to make barnstar similar to Mumbai Police logo. Do you wish to see the hand symbol in it too? I think it would be too much congress-like :-)) --GPPande talk! 11:49, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Yup, gateway is recognizable -- much better than the BMC logo of Gateway. But there's no need of the caption in the image. As for the star, you needn't go to the depths of duplicating the police star. Simply make sure that the star bulges out - I tried to say that, but I was too vague the last time. How about if you embed the gateway traceout inside the filled star? =Nichalp «Talk»= 12:03, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
Pretty cool barnstar. I have one suggestion. Can the star be made more prominent? Like Nichalp said...the gateway inside a big star. --KnowledgeHegemonyPart2 15:51, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
Second one is much better--Suyogaerospacetalk to me! 16:52, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
The Second one looks good. Can we have the Gateway within the Star. That would require the star to be a bit big. The Star should be faded then for the Gateway to be distinct. KensplanetTalkContributions 17:10, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
Going by WP tradition, I feel the shape of the star should be similar to   in looks. -- KnowledgeHegemonyPart2 17:19, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

I have given the star a bulge as Police logo has it and fitted the GoI into it. I removed the circular shape as it was not a must and it was looking as too much adornment. The text has been shifted into the star and legend removed. How is it now? Looking plain? --GPPande talk! 19:14, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Looks Good. Should we start awarding. Can you create a template for the Barnstar. KensplanetTalkContributions 19:21, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Ok, so now the design seems to be agreed upon. I would come up with the template tonight or tomorrow. We can always tweak the barnstar image here and there - so this debate is not sealed and archived. Changes/suggestions are always welcomed. Afterall, the person receiving the barnstar should feel he is getting something special for the something special he/she did. --GPPande talk! 11:09, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

Do Governors of Bombay, Roman Catholic Archbishops of Bombay, Anglican Bishops of Bombay, and other viceroys and all people who have represented Bombay in the past belong too this Project. KensplanetTalkContributions 18:27, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

Yes. Just like WP Indian history also includes parts of Pakistan and Bangladesh. Political changes for entities centered in Bombay does not affect the scope. They had some form of political or religious authority over the city, so they qualify. =Nichalp «Talk»= 18:48, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
