Over the past month or so I have been going through all the Medal of Honor related articles varifying their assessment status, makingn notes and creating a page to track it. This is not a formal project, just smoething that I created to give myself a starting point to start building up the content of the Medal of Honor related articles. I though I would post this out here as well in case others are interested as well. If you look at this page Medal of Honor assessments other than Amerian Civil War (ACW) you will find tables oif all of the Medal of Honor recipients other than those for the ACW with their assessment and some rough notes. This page reflects the same for the ACW Medal of Honor recipients and this page reflects those that still need to be created. The ones who are lined out are already done, although some are still stubs and need work. Just a few notes about the state of the articles in general:

  1. All have infoboxes
  2. Most have persondata
  3. All have references although some need to be cleanup and expanded
  4. Most have a link to at least one applicable portal
  5. Most have a link to at least 1 list
  6. Many still need photos
  7. A little over half the recipients have pages but a lot still do not, most of those that still need articles are in the Indian wars or the American Civil War.
  8. I am currently working on cleaning up the talk pages making sure they all have appropriate project banners (At a minimum they should have biography, MILHIST and United States), task forces and general info tags (needs photo, persondata, infobox, etc.).

Please let me know if you have any questions or comments. --Kumioko (talk) 21:34, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

I currently work mostly with Medal of Honor recipients. Would it be appropriate to place this template on the talk pages of those articles or is this more directed towards the Medal itself? Also how about the lists or recipients?--Kumioko (talk) 21:36, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

Alt text for military ribbons

There is a conversation regarding the standardization of alt text for military ribbons currently going on in the MILHIS wikiproject talk page. Here is a link to that conversation. --Kumioko (talk) 21:51, 5 February 2010 (UTC)

Category:Honourable Corps of Gentlemen at Arms

I have been populating Category:Honourable Corps of Gentlemen at Arms from Captain of the Honourable Corps of Gentlemen-at-Arms but have a couple of questions:

  1. Can I create new Category:Honourable Band of Gentlemen Pensioners by which they were known prior to 1834 (and move earlier members into it)?
  2. Can I also create two subcategories Category:Captains of the Honourable Corps of Gentlemen-at-Arms and Category:Captains of the Honourable Band of Gentlemen Pensioners and move captains into them?

Wearing ODMs

Is there a page relating to the method of wearing ODMs? I haven't found one and was thinking of starting one up. Regards --Oliver Nouther (talk) 12:59, 14 March 2010 (UTC)

I haven't come across a dedicated page. If you set one up, it would need to account for differences between different countries, either by having country specific sections or by having an overall page and then linking to country specific pages. Cheers, AusTerrapin (talk) 23:50, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
I was thinking exactly that. I will see how it goes as I draft it. I am tending towards one page with sections, as there are many basic similarities but with some national protocols. --Oliver Nouther (talk) 06:47, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
I have set up a category at Commons (Commons:Category:Orders, decorations and medals method of wear) and provided a sample population that may provide some good imagery. Cheers, AusTerrapin (talk) 14:17, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

Re: European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal

Both the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal articles have been significantly upgraded with verifyable inline references.

The Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal article has been moved from stub to regular article but the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal article has not yet been upgraded.

How does one request such an upgrade from stub to the next level for this article?

I'd like to request the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal be reviewed and upgraded.

Proposal to change Project Banner

The current project banner does not provide for article classification by quality and importance. Whilst ODM are usually, and should consistently be, tagged with one of the History Project tags (which do have quality and importance classifications), the importance to the field of ODM is often not the same as to history (which has a much broader ambit). The absence of this information also makes it difficult for us to profile articles in order to provide targetted editing effort.

I propose that the current banner be updated to incorporate the ability to categorise pages by importance, quality and project sub-area. Classification by project sub-area will require a little bit of thought. Whilst it makes sense for this to be done by country, the UK presents a special case as the Imperial system of honours and awards was extended over the Empire/Commonwealth for a siginificant period of time and is usually considered by affected countries to be a quasi-extension of their own system. My thought on this is that dual tagging would help solve this with affected pages tagged both 'United Kingdom' and 'Imperial - British Empire and Commonwealth'.

At the moment I am seeking 'in principle' consensus for the change and also welcome comments on implementation aspects. As I see it, there are two different aspects to decide - whether the change is needed and, if so, how to change it.

Cheers, AusTerrapin (talk) 01:11, 5 June 2010 (UTC)

Agree in principle Aus, not sure yet about the dual tagging it may need a bit of testing to see if it works sensibly. MilborneOne (talk) 17:19, 5 June 2010 (UTC)

Proposal to rename category

I have proposed on WP:Cfd that Category:Recipients of the Order of Australia Medal be renamed to Category:Recipients of the Medal of the Order of Australia to reflect the correct title of the medal. AusTerrapin (talk) 18:38, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

I guess it is more correct. --Oliver Nouther (talk) 22:50, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
The result of the CfD was to rename. This was effected when the CfD closed. AusTerrapin (talk) 14:18, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

Seeking help with a tedious project

I've started some work on List of honorary British knights and dames, in particular trying to rework it into a table format, see Talk:List of honorary British knights and dames/Temp table version draft. As a part of the process, I hope to fill in a fair amount of missing information.

If anyone has any advice about any of this, I'm all ears. And your help would be dearly appreciated. :-) --Jimbo Wales (talk) 13:42, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

I'll have a look at it and fill in what I can. A good place to search for information about British Honours is the London Gazette. Cheers. --Oliver Nouther (talk) 22:53, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

Categories for discussion nomination of Category:Recipients of the Order of the White Elephant

Category:Recipients of the Order of the White Elephant, which is under the purview of this WikiProject, has been nominated for discussion. If you would like to participate in the discussion, you are invited to add your comments at the category's entry on the Categories for discussion page. Thank you. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 00:01, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

The CfD result was to rename as part of an expansion to a wider grade-based schema. Cheers, AusTerrapin (talk) 14:20, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
