Coordinators' working group

Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.

All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. If your project hasn't formally designated any editors as coordinators, but you are someone who regularly deals with coordination tasks in the project, please feel free to join as well. — Delievered by §hepBot (Disable) on behalf of the WikiProject coordinators' working group at 06:27, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

The article does not assert notability and was at one time nominated for speedy deletion, so if anyone is willing to take a look... GregorB (talk) 19:27, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

Message sent by User:Addbot to all active wiki projects per request, Comments on the message and bot are welcome here.

FAR

I have nominated Căile Ferate Române for a featured article review here. Please join the discussion on whether this article meets featured article criteria. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. If substantial concerns are not addressed during the review period, the article will be moved to the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Remove" the article's featured status. The instructions for the review process are here.YellowMonkey (cricket calendar poll!) 02:51, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

Dinu Hervian

Can someone from the project look at the new article Dinu Hervian? All sources I can find are in Romanian so I can't really judge their reliability. Help would be appreciated. Pascal.Tesson (talk) 23:46, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

Does your WikiProject care about talk pages of redirects?

Does your project care about what happens to the talk pages of articles that have been replaced with redirects? If so, please provide your input at User:Mikaey/Request for Input/ListasBot 3. Thanks, Matt (talk) 02:22, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

The first theatre and actors in Romania

What was the first theatre in Romania with professional actors of both genders? Who is counted as the first professional actor and actress respectively? Thank you in advance for those who can answer!--Aciram (talk) 10:40, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

The net say the first modern theatre in the country was founded in 1788. What was it called? And who were the first actors and actresses there? I am very interested in theatre history. I would be grateful if anyone could reply on my talkpage. Regards--Aciram (talk) 14:26, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

FLC notice

Hi, this is a message from Wikipedia:Featured list candidates. List of Romanian counties by foreign trade is here at FLC. Does anyone willing to continue working on this list? Unfortunately, the nominator has been blocked and it is sad to see this fail because of inactivity.—Chris!c/t 18:55, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

Should we change "ş" to "ș" in article titles?

Many Romanian article titles in the English Wikipedia use the "ş" character, but "ș" is the correct Romanian letter. Shouldn't these titles be changed to use the correct character? I already changed Timișoara, but I'm unsure whether this is right thing to do. Is there any reason for using the incorrect character? (This looks like a big job, but better now than later, when it will be even worse.) --Robert.Allen (talk) 08:28, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

Oh, please don't. The argument was made a long time ago in favor of frequency and proper display over the strict rule (which is barely ever respected in Romania). This has been the consensus for years, here and on the Romanian wikipedia. Plus, on my display at least, the "correct correct" variant looks awful - it's like something scribbled by someone with palsy in the middle of typeset.
And, finally, eve if were we start using the letter, it should not be just in article titles, but throughout, in every case and every random combination where it and ţ (not ț) were used - which is not something we can reasonably expect will actually happen. Dahn (talk) 08:36, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

I realize now I should have asked first, before making the change. --Robert.Allen (talk) 09:20, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

Romanian Ministries

Discussion moved from the noticeboard by Pcap ping 18:43, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

In the last 20 years the names and structure of Romania's government ministries changed with every new cabinet. Is there any established way to keep WP up date, yet not remove important info when changes like joining tourism and regional development occur (i.e. every 2-4 years)?Anonimu (talk) 16:07, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

Trying not to encourage the political pamphlet that seems to be in the making inside any more or less serious post, let me note that there is indeed a problem of nomenclature. If it were after me (and, alas, it ain't), I would simply reduce the name to the smallest single denominator - "of Tourism", "of [National] Defense", "of Education", "of whatnot", discussing all "full names" and name changes in the body of articles instead of spinning the articles around every time the gvt gets creative. Given that there's a couple of users who seem to be interested only in preserving that decorum, this is bound to be a controversial proposal, but at least give it some thought.
And oh: whatever you do to the names and how they impact on the articles, this is, by all accounts, grotesque. Dahn (talk) 16:19, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
Please AGF. What to de do with that specific case, should it be "of Tourism", or "of Regional Development"? Personally I think the first has a longer tradition, while the second is much more important in the government scheme, so I wouldn't know to choose that "single denominator".Anonimu (talk) 16:51, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
Well, my thought would be keep "Tourism" and forget "Regional Development" - mention the merger in the article. That;s because the latter is (still) accidental, whereas the former has, as you say, a longer tradition. In other words, Udrea is the first-ever minister of both, let's see if this becomes a "tradition" before changing it. Of course, links for "Minister of Tourism", "Ministry of Tourism" etc. should all point to that one single page, and the nomenclature within the article should point toward the current situation. But keep the title simple and on "Tourism". At least for now. Dahn (talk) 17:02, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
So here is it:
Name Comment
Ministry of National Defense (Romania)*
Ministry of Health (Romania)*
Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Romania)*
Ministry of Justice (Romania)*
Ministry of Interior (Romania)*
Ministry of Education (Romania)*
Ministry of Youth and Sports (Romania) currently joined with Education. IMHO, historically relevant
Ministry of Economy (Romania)* sometimes joined with Finances, sometimes not at all
Ministry of Agriculture (Romania)*
Ministry of Environment (Romania)*
Ministry of Labour (Romania)*
Ministry of Transport (Romania)*
Ministry of Communications (Romania)*
Ministry of Culture (Romania)* in the past included Religious Affairs
Ministry of Finance (Romania)* sometimes joined with Economy
Ministry of Tourism (Romania)* sometimes joined with Transports
Ministry of Public Works (Romania) independent in the 90s, joined with various in the 2000s (Transport, Regional Development)
Ministry of Commerce independent or joined with different ministries (Tourism, Economy, Finances, Industry)
Ministry of Industry independent in the 90s, joined with various in the 2000s
I think Youth and Sports and Public Works are historically relevant as separate ministries, and should have separate articles. I don't know what to do with Commerce and Industry. I'm going on a wikibreak until January, so if there's consensus, anyone can go ahead in the meantime.Anonimu (talk) 22:12, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

I raised this type of issue on the Justice Ministry talk page (IIRC), but the repeated renamings and mergers make it too byzantine for me to propose a general solution... By the way, do we have articles on each cabinet? I saw one on Croitoru's rejected one. Are there others? It may be best to just give the full names of the ministries in an article on each cabinet, since the ministry articles are pretty wimpy, and likely to stay that way (except for list of ministers I've not seen much else in them). Pcap ping 00:23, 24 December 2009 (UTC)

I personally think that the very idea of having separate articles on cabinets (as opposed to, say, a list of ministers in articles on the PMs) only creates clutter and gives some users something simple to spend their energy on. The articles are virtually impossible to link to, and, in case somebody ever planned them as prose, they would be redundant and perennial POV traps. But that's just me. Dahn (talk) 00:43, 24 December 2009 (UTC)

Venue

Err, do you guys mind taking this discussion to WT:WikiProject Romania. This page hasn't been active in over a year (and it's talk page for two). I've also delinked it from the WikiProject because it competes with its talk page. The archives should probably be merged/moved over there à la WT:MED. Pcap ping 16:45, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

I for one agree with the merge. I chose this venue because I knew that many Romanian editors (and not only) had this watchlisted from the old days ( WProj Romania was not on my watchlist until now, probably it's the same with other Romanian editors).Anonimu (talk) 16:51, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

Merging noticeboard here

I'm proposing to merge/move the archives of Wikipedia:Romanian Wikipedians' notice board and it's talk page here. Both worked as rather fragmented discussion areas. To the uninitiated outside this WikiProject, it wasn't/isn't at all apparent where to go. Those papge have also been inactive for a year, so I've marked them such a while back. A single archive search box would be nice too, it that looks more complicated than the WT:MATH one because the built-in search doesn't appear to handle multiple prefixes. So, we'd have to use the indexing bot like WT:MED. Pcap ping 17:13, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

Fine by me. Dahn (talk) 17:17, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
Done Move/merge completed. Let me know if I've screwed up anything. Pcap ping 18:44, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
Since I see you're good with wikicode, could you make a template of sort to invite people from the old Noticeboard here (i.e. to put on their talk pages). I've seen several editors who had important contribution in the past and were members of the noticeboard, and who are probably not watching this page.Anonimu (talk) 20:21, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
I've added notices at the top to both the project and talk page of the old noticeboard [2] [3]. I don't think that spamming everyone involved is necessary; they can pick up the change from their watch list... Pcap ping 20:32, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
