FF VII articles push

I've been looking at the articles related to Final Fantasy VII, and leaving aside whether or not the said article will ever be an FA again, there are only three articles that needs improvement and nominating before the entire VII series will be at GA level and could be taken to GT nomination. They are Advent Children (the toughest one, it seems to me), Before Crisis (admittedly a little tricky given it's never been outside Japan) and the main Characters of article (the easiest, barring a few Manual of Style tweaks, reference stuff and updating). I'm sort of willing to help on them, but I would also like others to be helping. I probably won't be able to help much on Advent Children, as films aren't in my line. But I could see what I can dig up about Before Crisis. So, what do you say? Let's give it a shot! --ProtoDrake (talk) 20:20, 28 November 2014 (UTC)

Update: Forgot one; Compilation of Final Fantasy VII. That needs work too. --ProtoDrake (talk) 14:58, 3 December 2014 (UTC)
@ProtoDrake: I'm mainly still working (slowly) on the Mana series articles, but I do want to get in on this. I'll focus on Advent Children if you'll take the characters article, and we can meet in the middle on Before Crisis. Film articles aren't my thing either, but it's an interesting challenge, while character articles are really not my thing. --PresN 01:53, 3 December 2014 (UTC)
@PresN:, I'll happily take on the character article. After some of the other articles I've tackled recently, it should be relatively easy. --ProtoDrake (talk) 10:53, 3 December 2014 (UTC)
@Tintor2 and Bertaut: In June 2012, it looks like you two were handling the GAR for Advent Children, though it eventually still was delisted. Do either of you want to come back to the article for a new push to get it re-GAd? --PresN 01:56, 3 December 2014 (UTC)
@PresN, Tintor2, and Bertaut:, UPDATE: I've done major rewrites to both Compilation and the characters article, and am preparing another rewrite for Before Crisis. The first of these articles I'm planning to take to GA is Compilation. If anyone wants to give either of these articles a lookover, feel free. I am by no means the only person interested in this article push. --ProtoDrake (talk) 22:44, 15 December 2014 (UTC)
Hey guys. For some reason I wasn't pinged on 3 December, so I've only just heard about this now. My involvement with the GAR for Advent Children was purely coincidental. I was doing some work on Final Fantasy VII pages across the board and I just so happened to arrive at Advent Children just prior to the GAR. I don't really have the time to get involved in another push at the moment, but I'll certainly have a read of the pages you've worked on. At a very quick glance, the work you've done on Compilation is excellent. One thing to (perhaps) consider is this. There used to be an article on Gaia (Final Fantasy VII), which had a lot of info in it. I did some work tidying it up and deleting a lot of superfluous details. The page was eventually deleted and changed to a redirect to Compilation, but there might be some info there worth adding to the Compilation page. I don't know for certain, just an idea. I'll get back to you when I have a proper read of Compilation. Bertaut (talk) 23:00, 15 December 2014 (UTC)
@Codename Lisa: looks like I forgot to ping someone to the discussion, and since Lisa reverted my edits on the Advent Children page for mucking things up I assume they're still active there. --PresN 18:32, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
Hi. I still have the page on my watch list but have decided to take fan stuff completely easy. There are only a couple of things that I do care about:
  • Citations: Incorrect use of |publisher= and |website=/|work= is not tolerated. Example: GameSpot is a work/website. Its publisher is CBS Interactive. Destructoid is the website/work; its publisher is ModernMethod.
  • Citations style: Article must consistently use either {{cite news}} or {{cite web}} for web citations; a mixture of both is not acceptable. Since 2014, these two accept virtually the same input and their output is almost the same but not completely. This is a point that is previously brought up by the former administrator Nikkimaria in two FAN discussions that I participated.
  • Prose quality: FA is notorious for not accepting redundancies like repeatedly attributing the same thing to the "game" in the same paragraph successively. As I once had to prove with ample sourcing, "Weapon" (first caps) is correct; "WEAPON" is wrong.
  • Blatant plot mistakes: I said I'd be generous about the plot, but that doesn't mean I'd accept mistakes like saying Marlene was a boy. The generosity extends to using "Mako" and "Lifestream" interchangeably once, referring to "Aerith" as "Cloud's girlfriend" (Riot alert!) or calling the film either science fiction or science fantasy.
Best regards,
Codename Lisa (talk) 23:53, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
@ProtoDrake: I finished up with Children of Mana, so I'm now starting in on Advent Children. --PresN 18:41, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
@ProtoDrake: Sorry for the delay. I have been busy with some personal things so I could not respond or work here.22:08, 19 December 2014 (UTC)Tintor2 (talk)

@ProtoDrake: Alright, took me a while, but I'm satisfied that Advent Children is up to B-class now, so that's all four up to there. Still work to do before I'd be comfortable nominating it for GA again, but it's getting there. --PresN 22:35, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

@PresN:, understood. Good progress. I'm feeling a little indecisive as to whether to make the GA push for Compilation or Before Crisis. Also, I think we need to take a look over the other VII articles to make sure they stay as GAs. --ProtoDrake (talk) 22:42, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
@ProtoDrake: Alright, first one out the gate is Advent Children, now at GAN. --PresN 22:46, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
@PresN:, I've nominated Before Crisis for GA review. Hopefully it and Advent Children will pass, then there will only be two left to go. --ProtoDrake (talk) 22:30, 2 February 2015 (UTC)

Status

15 GAs, 3 As (18/20 done)

Note that, as an unreleased video game, Final Fantasy VII (remake) does not need to reach GA for the topic as a whole to be nominated as a GT; it does, however, need to have a completed peer review. It won't need to reach GA until 3 months after the game gets released. --PresN 20:34, 25 June 2015 (UTC)

Minor query

Tintor2, PresN, Bertaut, Codename Lisa, I'm in a spot of bother. The present logo image for the Compilation article has an opaque background that I don't have the ability to change and update to a white one. Can someone please help here? --ProtoDrake (talk) 19:09, 10 January 2015 (UTC)

Hi. Honestly, I am dropping from sleeplessness. I have a PNG version of the meteor logo. Let's see what can be done. I just hope this compilation logo isn't made up by Wikia fans. Best regards, Codename Lisa (talk) 20:03, 10 January 2015 (UTC)
Don't worry, it isn't fanart. I've seen it in official trailers and on websites of games related to the Compilation (Here's an example). The one mentioned was the only clean version I could find. I think it's probably a scan from one of the guide books, given the hue of the background. I evne found out that there was an official Compilation website, but it's dead now and unarchived in its active state. --ProtoDrake (talk) 20:48, 10 January 2015 (UTC)
@ProtoDrake: I am terribly sorry. I did all I could and the result is straight damned aweful. If only there was one with transparent background over the Internet. Of course, there is also one with a cloudy night sky background. Best regards, Codename Lisa (talk) 16:30, 11 January 2015 (UTC)

The Spirits Within at FAC

I successfully nominated Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within for GA status in 2010, and have now nominated it for featured status. See here: Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within/archive1. All comments on the nomination are welcome. Have a nice day. Freikorp (talk) 07:01, 12 January 2015 (UTC)

@Freikorp: Awesome work, good luck at FAC! --PresN 22:56, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

Congratulations

To User:PresN for his efforts in making a Mana series featured topic, and raising the number of featured articles to our highest number ever! Also, great work by User:ProtoDrake creating incredibly rich and reliably sourced articles I never thought possible, please nominate them for the Good Article status they deserve. :)

On a separate note, I wanted to get some suggestions about how to get content from Japanese sources. I do not know the language, and there are many interviews and news sources online that I am unable to add to the articles such as Kingdom Hearts coded. Without these resources, I doubt I will be able to push it to a sufficient level of quality to warrant a good article symbol and status, so any suggestions on good translation tools and ways to do a search for Kingdom hearts in Japanese on the Japanese website would be much appreciated. Keep up the good work everybody you're all awesome! Judgesurreal777 (talk) 04:22, 15 May 2015 (UTC

@ProtoDrake: You should totally nominate the last two FF7 articles for GA! Don't really have any suggestions for you, though, Judgesurreal777- I'm not great myself at finding Japanese dev sources. --PresN 05:14, 15 May 2015 (UTC)
@PresN and Judgesurreal777:, believe me, I will as soon as I have the energy and time. --ProtoDrake (talk) 07:14, 15 May 2015 (UTC)

Sister project

Just realized today (when I saw that someone had made a Chinese version of my new {{Progression rainbow}} template) that we have a sister project on the Chinese Wikipedia- 维基百科:电子游戏专题/史克威尔艾尼克斯! And boy does that layout look familiar. They're keeping up our level of quality, too- progress bars and all that, and their two GAs don't seem impressive until you realize that the Chinese video game project as a whole only has 24 GAs. Anyways, just found it interesting. --PresN 17:35, 17 May 2015 (UTC)

Informal peer review at FFXIV:ARR

Lali-ho, WP:SEers! Long time no talk! My Wikipedia time has diminished significantly since I was last active, but I have been pecking away at something, I promise. I'd love a few more sets of eyes at Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Currently, I'm aware that the Story and Patches sections are completely unsourced but I'll be adding refs to that as I get time to do so. What I'd really appreciate is evaluating the article with respect to prose (I feel the story section is on the long side and I can't find places to trim/abridge it, having wrote and rewrote it too many times) and completeness/flow of all the other sections. Much thanks, wow. Axem Titanium (talk) 18:43, 25 June 2015 (UTC)

A new copy-paste detection bot is now in general use on English Wikipedia. Come check it out at the EranBot reporting page. This bot utilizes the Turnitin software (ithenticate), unlike User:CorenSearchBot that relies on a web search API from Yahoo. It checks individual edits rather than just new articles. Please take 15 seconds to visit the EranBot reporting page and check a few of the flagged concerns. Comments welcome regarding potential improvements. These likely copyright violations can be searched by WikiProject categories. Use "control-f" to jump to your area of interest (if such a copyvio is present).--Lucas559 (talk) 16:19, 2 July 2015 (UTC)

List of SE franchises

A week ago, a user created a new list- List of notable Square-Enix franchises. They only filled it out halfway and didn't come back to it; I put some problems that I had with the list and have now moved it until they get fixed to Draft:List of notable Square-Enix franchises. Does anyone have any suggestions for what to do with the list? I want to chop it down to franchises with at least 2 releases, but I'm not sure whether to also chop it down to franchises developed by SE, rather than just published- this would cut out the Hitmans and Tomb Raiders, but would also cut out all the Taito manga stuff and I'm not sure how much would be left. Might need to bump it back up to just 1 release needed. Is anyone else interested in the list? Or is this just a solution in search of a problem? --PresN 00:24, 31 July 2015 (UTC)

@PresN: I'd be willing to have a look at it. As to content suggestions, I would include franchises published by Square Enix, but wouldn't include ones with less than three releases unless confirmed as otherwise by the company. --ProtoDrake (talk) 07:50, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
Now in article space as List of Square Enix franchises; there's still work to be done to it and decisions to be made about the manga franchise section. --PresN 15:39, 12 August 2015 (UTC)

List of JRPG franchises

Can someone pelase help me to finish this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:List_of_JRPG_franchises . It will take me probably 30 days to finish before I can move onto another article. I would appreciate if someone could fill in the contents column or Sales column or last release column while I do the others. --Misconceptions2 (talk) 13:36, 18 August 2015 (UTC)

You'd get a wider response at WT:VG, probably. --PresN 19:45, 18 August 2015 (UTC)

95% complete

I am almost finished with this article and would like someone to check it and let me know if I missed any JRPG franchise/series from this list: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:List_of_JRPG_franchises --Misconceptions2 (talk) 16:04, 30 August 2015 (UTC)

Final Fantasy FT

Originally nominated 9 years ago when Featured Topics barely had rules, and demoted 7 years ago when articles started losing their stars, our Final Fantasy featured topic has languished for years as a broken star. Until now!

I've smoothed the topic down to the core- FFs 1 through 15. The topic can't be nominated until Final Fantasy XV gets a peer review, but in the meantime, does anyone who got these articles promoted last have any objections? I know a lot of the original contributors are no longer around, but everyone who worked on these articles over the years should be recognized, I think.

--PresN 03:07, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

As one of the contributors to some of the articles, I have no objections. Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 03:59, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

Lara Croft Go

Tomb Raider Go was also on sale for $0.99. I often forget TR is Square Enix.
— CAG

My first full WPSE contribution, Lara Croft Go, is at GAN, if anyone wants to take a crack at a review czar 15:33, 18 December 2015 (UTC)

@Czar: I might take a crack at it later, though it's not actually covered by WPSE- the project tries to stay narrowly focused, so we explictly don't cover series that were Eidos series when it got bought, including Tomb Raider. As time goes on that gets a bit murky, but the idea is really that the project is about Square Enix JRPG series + assorted spinoffs, with specific series that SE publishes added on request (Dragon Quest, Valkyrie Profile). At this time Tomb Raider is not one of those series, though it can be added if people agree. --PresN 15:43, 18 December 2015 (UTC)
Oh—I had interpreted the scope to include games developed and produced by Square Enix Montréal (not a subsidiary, not just published) czar 15:50, 18 December 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, it's... a bit of a grey area. Basically we'd include it if it was a new series that was developed by SE Montréal or SE Europe, but not if it's a new game in a pre-existing Eidos series (Lara Croft). "It does not cover articles related to Square Enix's wholly owned subsidiaries Taito and Eidos".
We should probably have a new scope discussion pretty soon- originally we were just the Final Fantasy project, then we expanded into "Square Enix" but that was really just to include e.g. Chrono Trigger and Xenogears, then SE got too big so we cut it down to just "developed by SE", but added back in Dragon Quest because someone asked, then when Eidos was bought we said not to include it, but it's been years and they're not really very separate any more... --PresN 15:58, 18 December 2015 (UTC)
