MEGA IMPORTANT

I'm currently organizing hopefully the biggest collabaration in this Wikiproject's history. I was sifting though articles today and noticed how horrid List of Star Wars races is. First of all some races in there should be split off such as Genosean or Barbel.... 2ncd of all there are many articles that should be merged in there. Protocol for choosing what should be merged go as followed, if it has a picture and about a page of article leave it there (This is only a starting idea but as time goes by we'll get the manual of style going). I need to know who wants in this collabaration b/c it's going to be big and if at least half of the poject helps out, in about month we could get it organized and a year finished :) --Sadow (talk | contr.) 19:36, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

Also if we don't have sources we'll have to throw the whole damn thing down the drain... LOL --Sadow (talk | contr.) 19:55, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
Heh, I'm glad to see some ambition here. Just make sure to read the fancruft guideline beforehand. — Deckiller 00:14, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

Star Wars Incredible Cross Sections

Hi guys. I'm involved in a dispute here Star Wars Incredible Cross Sections with an editor who for some reason (he has not as yet justified his reasoning) insists on a "criticism" section being attached to the page, largely involving issues that are the subject of debate in the Star Trek vs Star Wars versus debate field. I don't feel these criticisms were appropriate because they are not NPOV (containing unrebutted claims that if rebutted would essentially turn the page into a debate forum), contained original research (including links to non-canon websites and even arguments on web forums), and that the "controversy" was adequately covered on the Star Trek vs Star Wars page (which in my edit I linked to). I also don't think its appropriate since the "criticisms" are actually longer than the article itself and the "versus" debate is an obscure subset topic that really isn't relevant or important. Since Star Wars Incredible Cross Sections is part of this WikiProject, can I get some other opinions? Apologies if this is the wrong place for this.Beryoza 14:30, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

Heads up

Can someone talk to MadClaw13 (talk · contribs)? I really can't, and he's made a bunch of dupe "battle" articles for things like three episodes of Clone Wars (flashbacks to before the Clone Wars merge), and uploaded a ton of copyvio images and posted a bunch of stuff that seems to be Wookieepedia copyvio (including some just-plain-bad-idea templates and template edits). - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 05:16, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

He's blocked now. --Team6and7 01:43, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

IMPORTANT: August/September/October Roll Call

I'd like to have a roll call now, so we can actually know who is still planning on contributing to the WikiProject and who is not. I recently returned from a Wikibreak, and i'm disturbed to find a large amount of inactivity. I'm semi-officially hijacking this WikiProject, and hoping to breathe some life into it, because nobody else seems to be taking initiative. Firestorm 01:22, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

  • Oh, one more thing. In a few weeks, i'm going to begin a purge of the memberlist, because there are quite a lot of people that put their name on because it looks good, but have no interest in the WikiProject. Anybody who hasn't signed the last roll call nor this one by mid September is going to be deleted from the list. Firestorm 22:10, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
  1. Most of my wiki-time nowadays is spent on Wookieepedia (yes I've turned to the dark side :P). But I still contribute here and there and watch out for vandalism to SW articles. The Wookieepedian 01:58, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
  2. Dmoon1 02:41, 30 August 2006 (UTC) I'm still here and active (Deckiller is planning something big for the project but hasn't announced it yet; he's currently on a much-needed break).
  3. I'm still around, though I'm largely more involved in anti-vandalism than content creation when it comes to the Star Wars articles. EVula 22:14, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
  4. I'm around still. I've been working a lot on GSUSA articles for wikiproject scouting and I just started college. Once this project starts rolling again, I want to start working on lists and KOTOR articles again, as well as I occasionaly do a bit of reverting vandalisms. I'm here, just bear with me for the next month while I get back on track. Darthgriz98 01:25, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
  5. I'll help out around here.--Team6and7 01:46, 2 September 2006 (UTC):We should also send messages to all of the project members on the list.--Team6and7 01:49, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
  6. I'm here. Albiet, the most I've been contributing towards Star Wars projects is the Ian McDiarmid article. (By all means check it out and if you have any advice let me know). b_cubed 04:09, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
  7. I'm here, but alas, I will not be as active as during the summer months, now that school is afoot once more. When I'm here, I'm working on massmerging the individual comics articles into story arcs. —Skope (talk) 15:55, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
  8. I'll be going with Skope on ths one, I'll be a bit inactive but still be here. American Patriot 1776 21:15, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
  9. I'm still around though not as active as I used to be since schoolwork is piling up. I might have random bursts of major updates, but that is tentative. I've started the List of Star Wars families that was requested, but no one has been helping me update it. Arsonal 02:40, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
  10. I've been off Wikipedia for a while, but I'll be getting back to editing in full force in the coming months. InTheFlesh? 18:37, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
  11. Like Skope, I'm still around but I expect to be relatively inactive in Wikipedia during the new semester. BryanG(talk) 21:32, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
  12. I'm pretty much always around. I'll be contributing when I find something that I can contribute. QelDroma06 23:05, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
  13. demonblade here, I'll help around in the SW articles. I think we should have ever article wookiepedia has in here too.  Demonblade  10:29, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
  14. Also still around; I've mostly been working on minor stuff, though I've done some work on some SW book articles. « amiИa . skyшalkeя (¿Hábleme?) 12:21, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

  16. Insofar as I edit Wikipedia at all lately I'm still working on Star Wars articles. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 07:10, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
  17. Semi-Active just joined Wikipedia maybe able to devote a few hours a week --Sadow (talk | contr.) 15:15, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
  18. Semi-Active I'm still around, but mainly to help newcomers and such. Not feeling like doing much except janitorial work for now, myself. Master of Puppets The Walrus! 02:00, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
  19. A little inactive, the infamous junior year has begun for me, and I'm currently working on other projects in Wikipedia. After I've got it done, I'll focus more on Star Wars articles. —Mirlen 19:55, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
  20. I'm still here. I have been mostly been working on Star Wars video games, such as Lego Star Wars II and Star Wars Battlefront II. I started the Lego Star Wars II article, you know! Anyway, I'm still active. KdogDS 22:06, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

  24. Personal life has kept me away from Wikipedia sadly but I still try to check in. I'd like to thank you all for keeping the project alive though! :) Jedi6-(need help?) 05:55, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
  25. I just signed up, I'm going to help mostly by editing some of your articles that overlap with WikiProject Films and by adding the {{StarWarsProject}} to all the Star Wars pages. Cbrown1023 02:10, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
  26. Hello all. I have contributed to the species pages and I plan on helping more in the future, but remember, always in motion is the future. Grand Master of the Jedi 16:03, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

New Order

I'd like to announce that i'm going to be taking some initiative with the WikiProject. I've recently taken up the role of custodian to the Star Wars Portal, which was sorely needing it (it had not been updated with new content since April). I plan on introducing some new things, such as the recently added Selected Race to replace the defunct Selected Picture and Selected List on the Portal, and bringing back some things that were forgotten, like the Collaboration of the Week, which has not been updated since early May. Big changes to come, stay tuned to this talk page in the coming weeks for details. Firestorm 00:42, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

template for reminding users about roll call

I made a template to remind people about roll call it is here User:Team6and7/sw use it like this

Never mind just use {{subst:User:Team6and7/sw}} and sign afterwords. I'll start reminding people now.

" Hello! "

Thank you for contributions. You have signed as a member of the Star Wars WikiProject their is a Roll call going on currently at the Star Wars WikiProject talk page. Please sign if you still want to help out.

Again, Thank you for your help!--Team6and7 20:20, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

Im down to jedimaster16 on the list didn't remind people if they weren't active.

Down to Mirlen on the list if someone could please help thanks.--Team6and7 20:37, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

MassMerge: Republic

I've finished the merging on the Republic series.

Skope (talk) 16:49, 2 September 2006 (UTC)'

The merges are done, unless I've missed any. —Skope (talk) 01:37, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

COTW

I'm willing to help get this rolling again if at least 5 people sign and say they've got the time I can't see why we couldn't keep this going.(But looking at how many people are actually hard core working I'd call Collabaration of the Month LOL!) --Sadow (talk | contr.) 20:19, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

Update I've revived this page and as long as people begin to nominate and help work on these selected pages I'll continue to work on it...

The Star Wars portal...

I've updated this addon and I plan to update it weekly, but this can only be fufilled with nominations and suggestions (Plus whoever can squeeze some time to help...) --Sadow (talk | contr.) 22:14, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

Changes to the StarWarsProject header

I added a "selected article" paramater. So if the article is a GA and a selected article, instead of writing out {{StarWarsProject|class=GA}} {{StarWarsSA}}, you can just write {{StarWarsProject|class=GA|selected=yes}}. Just one minor issue - there's some extra space when the selected paramater is not used. Hbdragon88 04:14, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

I've just added paramaters for a selected list and picture, as well as intergrating the portal link into the template itself. I hope you all like it. Hbdragon88 03:34, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

Janitorial and Common Sense duties

After fixing several things that [I thought] were wrong with various Star Wars wikis, both on Wikipedia and Wookieepedia, I ended up following a series of links that led me here, to this page. On this page, I noticed someone mentioning the "List of Star Wars races," and how flawed it is. Instantly, I agreed. I had been attempting to look up several different Star Wars species recently, only to find that Wikipedia's list is underly informative, and many species don't even have a page of their own, save for a few of the major species, such as wookiees. How am I to learn more about Rodians and the planet Rodia when hardly any information is given on the subject? Of course, I could probably find the information I seek with ease on Wookieepedia, but it is no excuse for Wikipedia's inadequate articles. I may or may not be considered an official part of whatever you're doing, but I've done much correctional work in Star Wars articles on both wiki sites lately, and I will continue to do so. I support your cause.

MINOR EDIT: Perhaps this little rant of mine belonged on some discussion page or something. Oh well.ShadowNinja 03:19, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

See, Wikipedia is strongly against to someone a lot of members call "Fancruft", which is redundant, overly trivial fictional information. Plus, everything must be from an out of universe perspective, so if there is going to be an article on Rodians, it should be able to stand on its own not by its appearences section, but its development and importance. That is a major reason why most fictional topics get hacksawed; they can't adequately explain the stuff that matters to an encyclopedia. — Deckiller 03:25, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
Additionally, minor races (such as ones appearing in a chapter of a novel, or a part of a video game) don't belong on articles or lists; if they are mentioned, it should be within the plot summary. However, significant races, such as the aforementioned Rodians, may merit their own a article if enough out of universe information can be presented. I recommend all of these "neo Star Wars WikiProject" members read WP:WAF. — Deckiller 03:27, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

noting canonicity in lists

I am the Star Wars fan who likes the movies, but not the books, etc. I was wondering if in the many Star Wars lists we could simple put an asterisk * or another symbol to denote that something is from the G canon (Star Wars canon#The Holocron). I'd really like it if we could do something like this. Thanks! Reywas92Talk 22:52, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

What about the Clone Wars cartoons? I don't know werther they are or not canon, but they fit perfectly.--201 23:26, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

FYI

Just so you guys know, I'm working on adding your {{StarWarsProject}} to all the articles found in Category:Star Wars using AWB because they are all in your jurisdiction. Cbrown1023 15:10, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks!--201 23:24, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

Done! I've tagged a total of 1175 articles with {{StarWarsProject}}, so now you are almost 2000 articles richer. Cbrown1023 01:38, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

You, sir, RULE!--201 06:08, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

Star Wars comics problem still

Not sure what's been going on, but the problem is still there. Category:Star Wars comics. 178 total in it, and many are just single issues. Wikipedia isn't a comic guide. Mass merging is still needed. Articles for each issue is something that isn't needed. Redirects are needed, as well as putting important information from the issue articles onto the main article for the series itself. From the looks of it: Star Wars Republic, Star Wars Tales, Star Wars Empire and X-Wing should be articles by themself, so all articles with issues for them should be merged. I'm sure there is more, but those are the ones that stick out. RobJ1981 23:31, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

Yes, I agree with RobJ1981 they definately don't warrant their own articles (WP:NOTABILITY), but if they were all together on one page, they would be Notable enough and look pretty nice. Cbrown1023 23:43, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

I don't mind them. But if you take the time to merge all, please make sure you don't eliminate too much info. That's why the word is merging and not eliminating. I took the time to check up some of those articles and it is obvious the creators worked a lot did a good job, if we merge, we have to do it with the reasonable respect.--201 06:05, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

The disussion had been public and the decision had been to merge into story arcs where available and the one-shots could stay. I admit that the individual Tales comics should be merged into issues as short descriptions and info, and even then, the issues could be merged into the volumes. Also, the trade paperbacks can go period (Clone Wars Volumes 1-9). That'll knock a total of about 50 entries out of the category. —Skope (talk) 18:22, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

I've begun merging the Tales articles. I merged Star Wars Tales 1-4 into Star Wars Tales Volume 1. Petaholmes had the right idea of merging the summaries into the issue article in Star Wars Tales 4, and I just went from there. There is still a need to format what I've done in Star Wars Tales Volume 1, but I just got the process going. —Skope (talk) 17:11, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

All of the Star Wars Tales articles have been merged into their appropriate volumes, and most if not all of the trade paperback articles have been done away with. That knocks the number of articles in Category:Star Wars comics to 117. —Skope (talk) 22:35, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

Copyedits/Major Work

I'm getting sick of seeing the same articles on the copyedits list. I have done lots of work on the Yuuzhan Vong invasion page, and it seems to me that it could be taken off. Some others have little info, needing more at some point. Any chance I could get a list of criteria specifically for articles needing copyedits/extensive work?Teh tennisman 22:25, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

Any thoughts on this?

There's a new article about some wiki called Star Wars Fanon. Doesn't look like it's very notable to me, so I was about to nominate it for deletion, but I figured I'd get some input here first. Anybody think this is a keeper? Kafziel Talk 13:12, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

Well, I checked it out and it's a wiki based on SW fanfiction. The featured article is on Jack Phoenix, an cross of a Star Wars character and Jack Bauer of 24. Nothing in the wikia is cited since the author of the article makes it up, seems like a pointless site, except, it is a real site. I don't know what to think of it. It's a credible as in real site, but the information isn't credible. As for an article, I don't know what to think, I thought it was a gag when I looked at it. Darthgriz98 14:41, 13 October 2006 (UTC)
Pretty much my take on it as well. The site itself is verifiable, but I don't see that it passes WP:WEB. I'm going to put it on AfD and we'll see what happens. Kafziel Talk 14:48, 13 October 2006 (UTC)
Heh, I had an edit conflict with you when attempting to create the AfD. The sole contributing editor seems to be a decent one; this is more a misguided attempt at improving the encyclopedia than vanity spamming. EVula 14:57, 13 October 2006 (UTC)
I agree. I think it's more a lack of familiarity with notability requirements. I'm sure the author's intentions were good. I certainly wouldn't call it spam. Kafziel Talk 15:04, 13 October 2006 (UTC)
