Only short stubs allowed

I see that only short stubs or missing articles are permitted, but in browsing through the Nigerian actresses category most work needs to go into article despamming and cleanup. there's a lot of articles which are beyond a short stub or even start class which contain unsourced poorly written text or bad sourcing/bare URLs. Thanks Jamie Tubers. Out of curiosity how much are the prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place? If it was something specific and a value attached to a certain thing I'd be more likely to contribute myself. Like a reward for whoever expands the most Nigerian women entertainer stubs in a month, or cleans up the most articles etc. Another thing, how do you define "short stubs". Under 0.5 kb of readable prose in total? There are of course much longer stubs which are equally as useless if poorly written and sources and needing restarting. I think perhaps if you attached a prize to "Whoever expands and improves the most " articles you might see more articles produced. If there was say a reward for $200 for whoever destubs/cleanups the most articles I'd try to compete myself ;-) Also how is "best" articles defined? It is the single best article, the best articles produced overall, and how do you define that, is it longest expansion, highest quality prose and research, biggest improvement overall? etc. If there's hundreds of articles produced, isn't judging that tough? Also what about scope, what article categories are included in the "entertainers" category. Perhaps you could put up the categories on the main page which fall under the scope you're looking for, presumably actresses, directors, dancers, TV presenters, singers, musicians but there might be others too, women magicians, circus performers etc?. Another thing I think is that some Nigerian entertainers are more important than others. If there's say 25 high importance/core articles the Jury would love to see on the most famous entertainers brought up to Wikipedia:Good article status, perhaps those could be listed on the main page and the editor who improves the most of them given extra kudos towards overall improvements or something. Just some ideas, it's your contest ;-).

BTW, to gain more publicity you could ask User:Casliber to put up a central notice for this so thousands of wikipedians worldwide can know about it and you might attract more contributors! Good luck with it!♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:43, 16 September 2016 (UTC)

With only three participants at the moment (including the organizer), the priority seems to be to ensure more interest. Why not send the contest notice to all relevant WikiProjects, especially all those related to women? @Ipigott:, thanks for your support and participation in our contest. I think, what we need at the moment is publicity. I have done mass message to host of wikipedians but it seems we need more. I would also suggest putting up a notice in "Projects needing help" in Wikipedia:Community portal and mentioning it at the village pump. It might help though if we know what the prizes are because you can then advertise it as "win xxx for producing the best articles on Nigerian women from Sep 20th-.."♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:14, 17 September 2016 (UTC)

• @Dr. Blofeld: there are no monetary prizes for these contests, as Wikipedia is projected as a volunteers community, and paying contestants goes against the paid-editing policy. @Jamie Tubers: Contests with monetary prizes have been held on here for years, Wikipedia:The Core Contest was one of the earliest to do it in around 2007 or 2008. And it's something Wikimedia supports where prizes are in the form of Amazon vouchers which editors in turn can use to buy books to further contribute to the project, so certainly not paid editing in terms of cash for "paid advocacy" or the terms of what the site frowns upon. They work brilliantly in getting content improved which otherwise would not be edited in years. I've run Wikipedia:Awaken the Dragon and Wikipedia:The West Country Challenge already this year with £250 for each in prizes and in total have produced over 1500 article improvements. A lot of content was created by people joining in the spirit of it, rather than money oriented, but it served to be really productive with a mechanism to get people working on important areas like core articles or cleanup.♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:19, 19 September 2016 (UTC) @Dr. Blofeld: thanks for the information about "pay editing". Suggestion. Some increased signposting is required. I came to the project page overleaf but it doesnt give me a red list, a list of participants, articles so far etc. I know that the list of participants is around but if the mass messaging does bring editors in then they need to be able to find these pages. I've returned - I have spent 20 mins or so finding this page and I still cannot find the list of articles that Dr B had and I added Chigul to before I went on holiday. "Pages that link" to Chiguul doesnt find it. I have created some new pictures but don't know where to list them. I think its an error not to use the WiR project page as that is found by google searching. If you try and google search for this page then you find project pages for previous pages and no link to here. (surprise! Victuallers (talk) 12:44, 9 October 2016 (UTC))

It seems they were not use on the article. Scope

Just some thoughts I have - when I edit articles outside my main areas of editing, the task becomes much harder and more time consuming. Hence I really don't think there is much interest in narrowly focussed contests. The best hope is to have a broad contest and attract alot of people. Hence I think the best thing to do is a scope as large as Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon and see how that works. Furthermore, when I revived some contests (Wikipedia:The Core Contest and Wikipedia:Stub Contest), I felt it was necessary to have some token reward, which is why I got amazon vouchers as they are not cash but widely useable across the planet. I thought it'd be great if folks were able to get a free book or two out of it, all in the name of learning. Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 14:57, 7 October 2016 (UTC)

Sourcing

There seems to be an issue with quality sourcing for a lot of Nigerian actresses. I just created a stub Queeneth Agbor for instance as a test. Most of the sources repeat the same thing "she agrees with sex before marriage". Could find very little actually about her career to the point people could question its notability. How can you write quality articles without quality sources?♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:10, 19 September 2016 (UTC)

• I actually doubt her notability myself. I've never heard of her before. I don't think there would be any sourcing problems for actresses that are actually notable. It was on your red list for the contest. I checked a few of the others and found similar lack of sourcing. Could you create a page for Entries instead and just move the list that was started there? It makes it very difficult to track what I've done and remain motivated on this otherwise! • We don't want to split information in too many places, as it maybe too difficult to manage in the long run, since we'll be running 6 consecutive contests for 6 months. Yes, but we also don't want to bloat the suggestion mage with dozens of signatures! Potentially editors could further improve the same articles, what then? I would think one page would be really convenient, Wikipedia:WikiProject Wiki Loves Women /Team Nigeria/Contests/Entries, split that page into 6, one for each of your contests. :

Maheeda and Cossy Ejiofor

I don't know if I should go ahead and create articles for these two ladies. I added them to my ToDo list from the article suggestion page because I find their lifestyle eccentric and somewhat interesting to me. Let me start with Maheeda, she claims to be a musician, and has released a couple of un-notable songs. Her rise to popularity is in the fact that she frequently shares unclad pictures on instagram. This has made notable newspapers to be monitoring her lifestyle. There are reliable sources that cover her but she doesn't have a noble or notable profession. As for Cossy, she claims to be an actress and have had minor roles in a couple of notable films. She has also featured and starred in some un-notable films. Her rise to popularity is in the fact that her breast size are far above the average. She also enjoys displaying them at events, this has made media houses and the entire populace to have a keen interest in her, and thus began monitoring her lifestyle. • I believe these two people are notable, based on Wikipedia guidelines. They do not really need to do "anything in particular" according to you. There are tons of articles on wikipedia about people who are just socialites, and nothing else. Alright. The introductory text will be quite funny. Cossy Ejiofor is a Nigerian actress and video vixen. She is widely known for displaying her huge breast during social events or Maheeda is a Nigerian singer. She rose to prominence after sharing series of unclad pictures on Instagram. I will work on their articles towards the end of this contest. For now I want to concentrate on "serious" entertainers. Last question. Does sport fall under entertainment?
