Add me to this list, I'll gladly assist. I regularly use open proxies, tor, and I know how to use nmap to verify if an open proxy is being run. Blaireaux 18:42, 23 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I will do this when I have more time to check your contribs, unless someone else does it first. —Centrxtalk • 20:50, 27 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I would also like to help on this project if I am deemed qualified. --WinHunter (talk) 16:28, 24 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Same here. Nwwaew (Talk Page) (Contribs) (E-mail me)

I'd like to help, I'm a bit under the edit count and most of that even is anti-vandal but a strange number seem to be the same thing so maybe this could help get rid of some of that. As far as identifying proxies I'm currently running 3 anonomyzing proxies and 2 caching proxies on my local machine alone, I've had some experience with DNSBL but I didn't much like their tool (too much to configure) but have found others since that work much better(Linux proxycheck command). I think anti-vandal would still be my main priority but this is an outlet for them and the backlog is huge, so I'd like to give a hand. Ben (talk) 04:32, 3 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'd like to help!

I'd be interested in helping do the open proxy checks. I'm familiar with DNS tools (whois, traceroute, RDNS, etc.) & querying blocklists. I've been working with IP networks since the days of accessing Unix boxes over dumb terminals using a command-line interface. The open proxy check backlog seems pretty healthy and could use some pruning down. --Ssbohio 17:40, 12 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'd like to help around here, as I know about networking stuff, whois, shared ips, RDNS, nmap, and more. I can tell the difference between an OP and a closed proxy. The backlog is quite big, and I'd like to shrink it. Soxred93 | talk bot 22:03, 20 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Added by SQL. Make sure you don't do any invasive scanning, and work closely with an admin (SQL is helping you, right?) and have that admin perform the blocks after review. You may wish to join Meta's project, also. ~Kylu (u|t) 03:49, 21 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'd like to help, particularly in the arena of web-based (php/cgi/etc.) proxies. For example, [1] and [2]. Antelan 05:51, 14 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

I would like to help. I have noticed there is a lot of issues with some of the blanket bans that I've seen I would like to help narrow these down. --ZacBowling (user|talk) 08:34, 29 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm active on Wikipedia:Abuse reports (processing the awful backlog =[ ), and would like to help out here. I'm familiar with nmap and DNS blacklists. Thanks. Netalarm 15:59, 20 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Been almost a year. No longer interested. Netalarmtalk 15:08, 11 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

I'd be more than willing to help. I have extensive knowledge of Internet infrastructure. Also ,there is currently a backlog here; I just got the WP:ABUSE cases underneath the backlog, and think I can help here as well. Avicennasis @ 07:49, 30 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

I suggest you try making some comments on a few, without using the templates. You may want to take a look at the guide to checking open proxies mentioned on the project page. -- zzuuzz (talk) 10:58, 30 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Ok. I wasn't sure if there was a process for this or not, as far as joining. I will check some when I can. :) Avicennasis @ 16:44, 30 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
The process has always been a bit mystical - "If you would like to become a verified user, please read the main page". It basically involves showing someone involved in the project (there are few of us) that you know what you're on about - that your advice can be relied on as far as confirming whether an IP is or is not an open proxy. You get the quiz later, but a good way of starting to show that you have the requisite knowledge is to get it right every time with a list of examples IP addresses, like those on the project page. Detailed comments, for example indicating how a proxy can be confirmed, or detailing why you think an IP is not an open proxy will go some way towards that. We could do this on the project talk page instead, but I think if you preface your notes with some kind of disclaimer they might as well go on the project page. -- zzuuzz (talk) 16:50, 30 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Would be more then happy to swing by and check requests. Have experience with checking and range blocks through CU work on simple and being one of the users comfortable with it (and with easy access to a command prompt to do it on) on checkuser and steward IRC channels. Tend to do the checking from my own terminal (Nmap as starting point). James (T C) 04:34, 27 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Verified users -- confusing, lame

edit

"If you would like to become a verified user, please read the main page." That's what it says in this article. Certainly we can do better than that. What main page? The Wikipedia main page linked on the left? No, going there and searching for "verified" shows no results. The main WikiProject on open proxies page? No, that has no information on what one needs to do to become a verified user. Wiki-fail. -Jordgette (talk) 22:47, 27 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

If you would like to become a verified user, please read the main page

edit

I set up another page to detail the process a bit better at Wikipedia:WikiProject on open proxies/verification. Please discuss at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject on open proxies. -- zzuuzz (talk) 07:10, 27 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

I know this is kinda dead, but... (User:Mdaniels5757)

edit

May I please be added to the "verified users" list? I've been handling many of the requests for the last couple months, and it'd be nice to close them myself to keep the working page clean. Cc. User:Zzuuzz, who's probably the most active person on the list on the project right now. Cheers, --Mdaniels5757 (talk) 14:46, 29 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Update

edit

The list of verified users could use an update. Based on activity since January 2019 on WT:WPOP and /Requests:

Proposed update
Administrators
Users
Inactive administrators
Inactive users

--MarioGom (talk) 10:45, 30 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

For clarity, changes are:
  • Moved to list of columns (easier to work with than tables in this case).
  • Fixed Pathoshild link.
  • Use {{Noping}} for links.
  • Moved all inactive admins to their own section.
  • Moved all inactive users to their own section.
Inactive here is defined as no project activity since January 2019. MarioGom (talk) 17:06, 30 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
