Too many rules

I created an article about an Asian woman, Hyo-Won Woo. It's a stub, will grow a bit but not to 3000 chars. I don't care about prizes and postcards anyway. Should I just list her for WiR and forget about Asia? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:45, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

@Gerda Arendt: Nice work! Sorry that rules make you feel confused. As we are sending postcards, we need to have rules to prevent people who will abuse our motivation of organizing the global event like this, even we know most people including you won't, as well as make sure we can ensure both quality and quantity of the event. People would criticize the event if we are not pursuing that, as a victim of online harassment, I know how does that feel. I don't think there is anything wrong with stubs, it has meaning as it exists and I created many stubs as well, and there is no way to claim stubs can not narrow the content gender gap which we are trying to overcome.--AddisWang (talk) 05:47, 4 November 2016 (UTC)

Jang Gye-hyang

AddisWang or anyone else who can assist. I am not sure whether it is appropriate when adding the language template whether to use Chinese or Korean in the article on Jang Gye-hyang. If so, can someone review the language templates I used and correct them as necessary? As for the spelling, I used the spelling which most often comes up in English and is on the website of the Foundation established in her name. I did not create redirects for Chŏngbuin Andong Chang Ssi, Chŏngbuin Chang Ssi, which are also variants of her name or the Jang of the Government of Andong (which is what I get for the translation of the Korean article), as it seemed that it is more logical, since her name is known that the tradition of calling her by her place of origin and surname would be obsolete. Should I make redirects? There is much more information about her available in Korean, but as I am not a native speaker and machine translation can be problematic I am hoping that others will contribute to the article. @SusunW: I'm not sure I get your points. The name you found "Jang of the Government of Andong" literally means "Lady Chang, from Andong, Mrs Jang" (정부인 안동 장씨). "Chang Ssi", and "Jeongbuin" may mean Lady Chang, but I can not explain what does that mean since I don't understand Korean and I did not find any clue from English content. --AddisWang (talk) 00:25, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

Jeongbuin is just the pronunciation of the 정부인 (Lady Chang), it does not have any meaning I suppose.--AddisWang (talk) 00:26, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

AddisWang okay on the redirects, I added one on Lady Jang from Andong as I found another link under that title. What I mean about the templates, is that I do not speak/read Chinese or Korean. So, for example, when I come across "李葛菴" as a Korean man's name, I marked it as Korean in the language template, but it looks like Chinese script to me. I have no idea if I am correct, or not. Is there someone participating in the Asian month who speaks/reads Korean and might help me? SusunW (talk) 18:05, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

@SusunW: It's called Hanja. It is Chinese characters, which are adopted by Korean languages. They invented Hangul, their own characters later and start to use it. But Hangul does not contain any meaning but only the pronunciation, unlike Chinese characters, which contains meaning but not pronunciation. Despite the Hanja was abandoned, Korean people still has a Hanja name, which contains the meaning, and a Hangul name, which shows the pronunciation. --AddisWang (talk) 18:21, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

Hoverable list of new articles?

I hope this question makes sense, but is there an on-wiki hoverable list of articles created for this event? I ask because "hovering" is how I find out which articles have images we might add to the event's Pinterest board. But I can't find such a thing for this event. I've added a few articles that were also listed for Women Writers, just to get the board started (here), but I won't be able to add more easily.Penny Richards (talk) 19:58, 11 November 2016 (UTC)

I think it works by a browser add-on I started using when I became an account coordinator for the Wikipedia Library, not sure what it was called; but if I hover over a blue link in the lists of new articles on other WiR editathons, I can see the top of the article, including whether it has an image. I don't have to click each and every one. Big time saver for pinning purposes. If you're going to list them all on-Wiki after the event, that's good enough for me.Penny Richards (talk) 23:44, 23 November 2016 (UTC)

Hey folks, dunno if anybody is still watching this, but thought I'd post here anyhow. The invitation said something about handing out shiny things, which appear not to have materialized. Now I'm not one to get especially hung up about this: but considering the number of folks who ended up with the requisite four articles, I think this might be disappointing a lot of people, in a place where within-community appreciation is all the reward we get...just sayin'.
