Route planning
editWe still have a few weeks until the event, but I think our best bet will be to filter the map down to just the places that have articles but no picture. These will be our top priority locations to photograph. Then we can look at the places that don't have articles, and if any of the most significant ones are close to those on the filtered map then we can try to get them too and make stub articles to hold their pictures. - I've been thinking some about how this event fits into the larger month-long photography contest. Like most Wikipedia group events, socializing with existing Wikipedians and recruiting new ones are focus points. I think photography is a great way to get new people interested in contributing. I've already gotten some interest from a few newcomers. However, for example, if you want to take a sunset photo of the silhouette of the state capitol for the contest this is not the best day to do that because the article already has pictures, and you won't have the proper lighting. Although that is a perfectly valid photograph to enter for the contest anytime during the month. The purpose of this day seems to be more about collaborating as a group to make a significant content contribution in a single day, while simultaneously having fun and learning more about Atlanta. I'll go ahead and propose four theoretical group routes even if on the day of the event we decide we only have enough people to do one or two of them. Two are walking routes, and two are driving routes. We could meet at the civic center because they have a big parking lot, but I'm not sure if it will be free to park that day. One of the walking groups could head to downtown and one could head to midtown, and the filtered map in the previous comment that covers most of the area inside the perimeter can be split up among driving groups. I doubt any of the groups would be able to photograph all of the locations on any of those proposed routes, but we can plan to meet up again at a bar/restaurant after about four hours to talk about the day and look at each other's pictures. If I had to guess, I would say a group could cover one location about every 20 minutes at their fastest. We should be sure to photograph any commemorative plaques we see at the locations as well as grab a copy of any pamphlets or brochures to use as citations for the articles. For the walking routes in downtown and midtown a lot of the places don't have articles or pictures, but maybe after taking a picture of the place you will be interested enough to do some quick research afterwards to make a stub article to hold the picture.
